These 6 giveaways are my way of saying thank you. I love getting up everyday to write this blog! So thank you for being a part of this blog, and for being here to keep the conversation going.

Two things stand out; as both surprising and fulfilling. First getting many projects done since I had not many places to go. Secondly, my husband has been working from home and it’s worked out great. I thought it may be difficult for both of us to be at home, but it’s been the opposite, really a blessing!

Getting Covid. Just before Thanksgiving I tested positive. I work at Costco, so I figured it was just a matter of time before I got it–even with all the safety measures in place. I work full time, and I have been very thankful to have a job during a time when many have lost theirs. But honestly, I was tired and at times a little envious of those getting to stay home and work on projects and spend time with family. So, even though I haven’t felt the best during the last couple weeks, it has been nice spending time with my immediate family, reconnecting with my husband, and resting. 🙂 Also, thanks for the blog. I enjoy stopping by every morning while I enjoy my cup of coffee.

So many things come to mind….I set my 2020 goals and one was to pay off our credit card debt. Well in January we went to Las Vegas for business and while my husband was working I went strolling around sight seeing. I didn’t really want to go on the trip and didn’t plan on gambling much. I brought a very small amount of money and sat down at a machine, hit a $10k jackpot very quickly. Paid off our debt and met my biggest goal in January! Turned my negative attitude about being there around straight away.
I should have picked something more meaningful like the fact I’m alive (I have a serious chronic health condition) but winning that much $ was a big surprise.
Love reading everyone’s comments!
Thanks for the giveaways Mavis:)

The best thing that happened to us this year was being able to buy the old house next door. Our family spent every weekend of the summer throwing garbage, ripping out deep yuck, cleaning, installing counters, new sinks, painting, and laying down flooring. The biggest blessing in all this isn’t so much the house, but how it allowed our kids and us to work together on a project! And now we finally have a home that is large enough that we can all work/do school from home at the same time without driving each other crazy or breaking confidentiality rules.

Oh Mavis…this is easy: I became a GRANDMOTHER this year! What a GRAND thing grand babies are!
My precious DIL had scary news given to her while sitting in the drs office all alone. Due to covid, my son had to wait in the car for her. She was told their precious son would be born with skeletal dysplasia & would be severely handicapped or would not live long. Scan after scan was done but the news was never promising. We prayed & prayed some more. He’s here and HEALTHY!!!! We are beyond grateful!
Bonus- close family friends were able to adopt two precious boys after fostering for over 2 years!!!

Best thing that has happened to me this year is that I realized what a great group of people I work with. I work in a small rural hospital ER on nightshift. During this pandemic we have really come together to support each other. When one person runs out of TP, someone is there with a package of it. When someone is low on food, another coworker is there to provide a meal. Sharing of PTO hours with others during crisis, working overtime together as a team. This year has been very hard for me but I realized I have a second family who really loves me!

The best thing that has happened to me this year is getting to know my neighbor. I have lived on my quiet deadens street for 33 years. There was an elderly neighbor that lives next to me who was a little standoffish. I’ve tried to talk to and wave to every time I saw her outside. I have made her bake goods and delivered them only to see them the next trash day on top of her trash can. Well this year was different. I was sitting on my front porch knitting mittens and hats for the town mitten tree a voice from the next door neighbors porch startled me. She asked what I was knitting. I told her I was knitting for the mitten tree that happens right after Thanksgiving. All that is hung on the tree gets donated to needy children in town. I told her I have been doing it since moving. A smile came to her face that I had never seen before. She was one of the First Ladies on this board to start this project nearly 50 years ago. So throughout this pandemic we would both sit on our porches and knit and gab about everything. We finally had something in common. She is just the sweetest little old ladies. I began running to the store for her. I would do so she wouldn’t go out and wouldn’t have to pay someone to do it. My son, who she saw as a hoodlum, mowed her lawn all summer. He would always refuse her money, but never the warm cookies she would bake for him. I’m looking forward to when the pandemic is over when her and I can sit on one porch together and gab, knit and share a cuppa tea.
Roslyn McNeill says
The best thing that happened to me this year is reuniting with my BFF from junior high and high school. Having a friend with a house, cat, and dogs, so I have somewhere to go on weekends during the pandemic. Two best things. After five years of waiting, we are finally installing the flooring that has been sitting in my garage. And the other is that my husband got to spend eight months of being home with us after living on the road for ten years and only visiting once a month. It was odd having him home every night, watching TV, working on house projects together, having family dinners, and so on. It’s been scary with no income, but his new job starts December 21, so the end is in sight. It’ll mean not seeing the kids until June, but the eight months all together was incredible.

There have actually been a lot of good things this year. My youngest daughter finished high school, making me officially retired (homeschool mom.) I went back to college after 30 years away, and just finished an Associates in History this week. My middle daughter got engaged to her Maine sweetheart. (His mom is my best friend since 5th grade, and now we get to officially be family.) I got a little extra time with my 3 nearly grown daughters when the colleges sent them home. My oldest graduated college, got a job, and an apartment, then engaged in October. My husband, who works 6-7 days a week almost year round, was sent home in March, and is still working from home, which is the most time we have had together in almost 23 years of marriage. I’ve taken all the money we planned to use for travel this year, and have paid off most of the girls college loans, and are nearly debt free. Truly, I feel blessed.

This is a very small thing, that brought me great joy! My partner’s brother “loaned” me some garden space this summer. Neither of us had a stellar gardening year. My partner joked that I had better get my sweet potatoes dug at the end of the summer. I didn’t think that they had grown at all, but I took a shovel to the garden to dig a bit.
