As a way of giving back and thanking you for showing up here on this crazy little blog of mine, whether it’s everyday or every week or just when you need to pop by for a recipe, I thought it would be fun to give away 6 unique gifts this holiday season that have brought us a bit of happiness over the past year.
Some of the giveaways will be locally made products we’ve discovered since moving to New England, some will be handmade, and few will be something I discovered long ago but still find myself using year after year. These 6 giveaways are my way of saying thank you. I love getting up everyday to write this blog! So thank you for being a part of this blog, and for being here to keep the conversation going.
This giveaway is now closed.

I belong in the one I am in!
But seriously, anything pre-cell phone is good too.
What a fabulous giveaway, MB!
Lori says
I belong in this decade.
Annie Millett says
I’ve never had lobster but I love blueberry pie. It needs vanilla ice cream to go with it though.
Amanda H says
Great giveaway! Lobster and pie for the win!!
I feel like I belong in the 90’s… I guess I never fully got over some of my teen angst. Plus, who doesn’t love a good flannel.
Amy S says
I do love flannel. My high school boyfriend gave me his flannel shirt. I foolishly gave it to my college boyfriend. The flannel these days isn’t nearly as rugged as it was back then.
Colleen says
The 2000s, I’d have to say! Those were good years for me.
Karen R. says
I belong in this time. Thanks for sharing your favorite things.
Toni Terrell says
Hmmm I love the 50s.
Thanks for the giveaways.
YvetteA says
I totally belong to the 1960s 😉
Wendy says
I belong here and now because I love growing and learning from my my past years. (But my husband says I belong in the 1800’s because of the things I like to do!)
Robin R. says
Not sure it’s where I belong but I would say I was happiest in the 80s & 90s when my kids were growing up. It’s when I met my life long friends through soccer. It’s when my husband was well. Life was busy and fun. The present time, while challenging, is more settled – retired, two beautiful grandkids with both kids married and employed, almost four years into widowhood & counting blessings instead of troubles.
Sandi Fleury says
Bless your heart. God’s peace and blessing.
Marissa says
I’d say the 80s maybe- growing up during that time was a blast!
Sara says
Violet! You’re turning violet, Violet!
I think I belong in the 80’s, riding my banana seat schwinn.
Be kind, rewind.
Davina says
The 80’s, what a great time!
Kim M says
The 1970’s were fun.
Sue P says
The 90s were good! Our daughter was in school, we were younger. Life was more busy, but seemed less complicated.
Gina says
Yummy I feel like I belong in the 60s.
Melissa says
I don’t know! I’d say the 90s, I guess, because that’s when I enjoyed life most.
Belinda Potts says
Wow!!! Yummies!! Love blueberry pie and I have never had a lobster roll, so I am in.
Tracy says
I feel like I should have stayed in the 1970’s
Glenna says
I think the 1800s during westward expansion. I have always wanted to homestead.
Nancy Sadewater says
I am with you Glenna.
Robin Lynn says
I would say the 1940’s
Amy S says
If you looked at me this year you would think I was from one of those decades when the husband was the sole breadwinner and the wife stayed home because she was busy in the kitchen cooking everything from scratch. I like the slower pace of that life, but I do feel like I am tied to the kitchen. So what would that be? The 60s or earlier?
Dianne says
Anytime before the Mid-60’s ; )
Leah Linton says
I think the 2000s when we had both of our children and everything was fun, crazy and just full of memories and chaos!
Beth B says
The 1980’s. Loved that it was pre-internet, pre-cell phone, kids got outside and played together. Life was simpler and the music was awesome.
Nicole wenzel says
Lobster rolls are amazing. We get our fill everything we visit my uncle who lives in Maine.
I would have to say the 1970s just for the classic rock music.
Sharon says
Late 50’s, early 60’s
Technically two, but classic times.
Margaret says
I think the 90’s.
Brenda says
The simple 70s I would go back in a heartbeat!
Shari says
I’d have to say the 80s. I’d love to relive them again but knowing all the things I know now!
Jennifer says
I think I belong in the 40’s and 50’s. But, only if I could be as opinionated as I am now. I’d like to think of myself like the mom in My Dog Skip; she was sassy and ruled the roost! Great movie if you haven’t seen it.
Paula says
OH MY! Great Giveaway!!! I think I belong in the 1940’s. I was raised by older parents in a very small village. I was related to half of my neighbors. Everything we ate was homemade. We never went out to eat. We raised a garden and had lots of family get togethers. All four of my grandparents were naturalized immigrants. My materal grandparents were Italian. My paternal grandparents were from Hungarian. Funny thing-my mom was 4’10” and my dad 6’3″.
Simone OFlaherty says
90s. Grunge, hip hop, all of it. So fun probably because my teenage years were in the 90s.
Coleen says
Good morning Mavis!
I want to say the 50’s but I think all the decades have something in them that I would love. So all of them would be my answer.
Jeanine says
This is a hard one for me to answer. Every decade had its favorite moments for me. But I guess I would like to go back to the year 2000. I had more family members living closer and both my HH and I were more active. We love the outdoors and had more strength to hike in the high sierras in California. Many fond memories backpacking and taking in the scenic views and waterfalls that Mother Nature has provided us all.
Leah says
Hmmm, perhaps back to the 1770s when people stood for freedom and against tyrannical government. Yes, I am so tired of this year. Lobster rolls (which I have never tried) and pie would be a fun distraction!
Lori H says
What a fun giveaway – doesn’t get any better than lobster & pie. I’m an 80’s girl all the way – love the music and big hair.
Amber says
Although life is complicated, I wouldn’t trade my life in the current decade. I enjoy today’s technical advances as well as rustic camping and making homemade bread and growing a garden.
Vanessa Strawder says
I try to live in the present- so I have to say whatever decade I’m living in at the time.
Carrie Clancy says
I absolutely love lobster rolls – a summer is not complete until I have visited Maine to eat one (or three!)
Missy Yanchuck says
I think this decade…
Julie T says
I belong right where I am and wouldn’t go back for anything. Bearing down on retirement is so much more appealing than going back to college, raising small kids, dealing with teenagers, and paying for weddings. Watching the grandkids grow up (and be someone else’s responsibility) and doing my thing is wonderful.
JoAnn Moran says
I was born in 1961, but I always feel like I belong in the 1940s. I like the music, fashion, morality, and work ethic. I also love lobster!
Carol says
I totally feel like I belong in the 80s! Or earlier!! . Feel that life was so much simpler and innocent in those times. Those were the days when kids went outside, rode bikes, made mud pies and returned home from playing with their friends when the street lights came on, you received handwritten letters, actually could smell the pies and cookies baking from your grandmothers house, no internet, no cell phones! , spending time with your family and enjoying what you had …looking forward to and listening for the sounds of nature..like the peep frogs and fire flys on an early summer night. Life was comfortable and the little things in life were cherished.
joanne s says
well, i’m hoping the 2030’s will be the best yet! i think the 1920’s-1960’s would have some cool things, but women’s rights were so bad i wouldn’t really want to live through them (some of them again).
Peggy Lineberry says
I belong in the 1950s. Family meals around the table talking to each other and not texting on their phone.
eileen says
1880’s, I am always reading books on pioneer women and the western expansion. Love self sufficiency.
bonnie baine says
I feel I am where God would have me be, doing the things he wants me doing at this time in my life. Great give-away! We were at the lobster festival in Rockland several years ago and fell in love with lobster rolls. sooo good.
Jerry says
Lobster rolls and blueberry pie does sound like a good treat! I don’t know if there is a better decade to belong to.. I was born in the 80’s. It would be cool to go back and see it with new eyes.
Charla Stankiewicz says
1980’s! I love that people weren’t stuck with their faces in their phones.
kathie Paje says
The 60’s for sure I loved staying home raising my children, family being the most important thing in my life. Where you fought over television programs and how long kids were on the phone. Where you actually knew your neighbours and where your kids where. I loved the 60’s
Erin says
80’s maybe? That’s a tough one!
Lucille says
I certainly belong to the 80’s. So much fun in college. Not just school but civic activities.
Melissa Antone says
I’ll take the 2030s for $500, Mavis.
I look forward to the continued progress toward equality, but I will keep my cheesy 70s music. 🙂
Rebecca C says
I think I belong in the 1980’s. Life was simpler or so it seemed.
Tammy says
The 80’s – the decade of flannel shirts, big hair, roller skates, and no cell phones!
Kristi says
1940’s for sure, my favorite decade! If I had to go back in time I would go to the 1940s. I love the clothes, furniture, houses, decorations just about everything!
Angela Miller says
Definitely the 80’s! Roller rinks and pac man!
Julie A Hess says
Hi Mavis,
I would have to say the 80’s. My husband and I dated, married and had our only child in the 80’s. That was a good question.
JoElle says
I belong in the 1980s
Keli says
I’d have to say 90s, I was a teenager. More excitement. Less stress. Less technology but still plenty of it. A good balance I’d say. Heres to beepers!
Jennifer says
What a great question! There are amazing parts to any time in history. I am happy with the decade I’m in, but I also love the stories of the pioneer days and their amazing adventures. So, 1880s? But you know, I love my wifi and air conditioning, so I’d best Just stay in my current decade. 🙂
Joan says
The 90s were good to me. My kids played outside, read books, rode their bikes and more instead of being glued to devices.
Kelly says
I would have to say 2000 – 2010. I really loved that time.
Leanna says
80’s when I was carefree.
MEM says
Although I like the idea of pre-cell phone and pre-internet decades (especially the 1950s), I have to be practical and say the current decade. I would not want to live in a decade where women had fewer rights and health care was inadequate.
Maria says
Although I’m a child of the grunge era 90’s and am totally nostalgic about it, I think I belong right where I am now.
CC says
2020s – It’s been the best decade for me.
Glenda Sessions says
The 60’s…..a much simpler time, Thank you for such a great opportunity to try out some of your local goodies!! x
Robyn says
Drool, some of my favorite foods! I would say the 80’s.
Nancy says
I liked the 60’s and 70’s. Wow, I love lobster rolls and blueberry pies! Thanks for such a fabulous giveaway.
chickengrandma says
I would love to be in the 1960’s. There was just a little amount of technology for a comfortable life, like phones, cars, antibiotics. And it was a simpler time with mom at home with the kids, cooking from scratch, sewing and mending the family’s clothing. If only we could return to “Leave it to Beaver” and “Father Knows Best’.
Jennifer says
Probably the 80s for me. I was 12 in the beginning and 22 at the end – before I really had to adult and things were so much simpler and dare I say it? Kinder.
Beth K says
I’d say any time in the early 1900’s.
Diann says
OMG Lobster and blueberry pie. I’m in the 70’s.
April says
The 1960’s. Thing were so much simpler!
Cassie Lester says
I think the 80’s. Before cell phones and internet. Where kids were just kids and got out and played with their friends. Seems like it was just a simpler time to grow up in.
Blueberry Pie is my favorite, yummy!
Lillian Barnhart says
I loved the 80’s, if I knew then what I know now, it would have been even better
Marja says
1960s
Debbie M says
Got my dulicmer Christmas CD yesterday – it would be perfect with lobster rolls and blueberry pie 🙂
Vanessa says
I belong in the future, so I’ll say the 20s
Jessica E says
I miss the 90’s, but I also think I’d do well in the 50’s. 🙂
Michelle Stahnke says
Yum, yum, yum! I belong in the 1970s. I sure had fun running around playing “Charlie’s Angels” and “Planet of the Apes” at the L.A. County Arboretum with my friends!
Jeanie H says
I love the 60’s but I sure would miss technology! Lobster and pie! Sounds like a winning combination. One of the Maine (see what I did there!) reasons I have always wanted to visit Maine is for the lobster and blueberries. The book Blueberries for Sal was formative literature for me as a little girl.
Jenn G says
I’ve always thought I belonged in the late 1800s or early 1900s. So let’s go with 1920s?
Annie B says
I would say this is where I belong, since this is where God put me.
Tamara says
I know I’m where I’m supposed to be but I love 18th century history so second favorite decade would be 1780s.
Sandi Fleury says
50s, Happy Days style!!
Julie says
1980s.
Amy Bearden says
I lived in the 80’s as a young child…but i would love to have been able to do it as a young adult!
Barb says
I think I would have done great in the 1950s, but I grew up in the ’70s, and that was a pretty great decade for growing up. I’ve never had a lobster roll, and I love blueberry pie–what a great giveaway.
Melissa says
The 1950s. For the appliances alone.
Joy says
The 1950’s! Seems like a more appreciative time.
Trish Pitts says
I belong and relate best with the 1980’s. It was the time of my teenage years, so that’s probably why it stands out so much. I can remember where I was when Reagan was shot, when Baby Jessica was found, and when the Space Shuttle Exploded. The movies are still my favorites to this day. And the music…. OMG…. it was (and still is) the best.
Sandra Wallace says
Oh wow, this one is tough! I feel like I belong back in the 80s-best music EVER!, but there are times that I feel I’m from the 40s. Can’t wait to try Maine blueberry pie-I’ve only had NJ’s growing up! Thanks for the great giveaway idea Mavis!
Sally Keillor says
Probably the 60″s Great music!
Laure says
1980s
Danette says
I belong in the 50’s
Kirsten says
Definitely the 70’s! If I could have a kitchen with avocado colored appliances, that would be stupendous. We had harvest gold when I was a little girl, but the avocado has always called to me!
Jamie says
This one, although loved 2000-10…..not sure what that one is called?
Deb Gibson says
The 1950’s for me. I would have loved to been June Cleaver!
Jennifer says
I try to acclimate to whatever decade I’m in. Really happy in this one especially now we have grands. LOVE lobster from Maine.
Kari says
I’d have to say 50’s/60’s, the Leave it to Beaver times. Although that was before my time, life just looks so much simpler then. Kids played outside all day (and it was safe to do so), Mom baked cookies, Dad came home at 5:00 for supper. What more could you ask for?
Patricia Winterscheidt says
The 70’s ….. I believe were my favorite!
Amanda says
90s for me!

This decade suits me fine, my people are with me, that is where i want to be.
Karin says
I think I belong in the 90s. Back before we all had devices attached to us at all times!
Krissy Miller says
I belong in the 2000’s because That was when I was in my twenties and it was the best time. I mostly miss pre social media days. Thank god that didn’t exist back when I was regularly frequenting the bars
Christa says
The 1940s have always been fascinating to me… I am an old soul. I like to think I would have joined the WAC or at least worked in a factory.
Hawaii Planner says
I enjoyed the 90s, but I’ve loved the last ten years, seeing my kids really starting to change & mature. What a fun life experience to see them grow.

Sue says
The 60s, such a simpler time.
Mavis, your crazy little blog is a delight to read everyday.

the 70’s for sure. I was so happy with the simplicity back then.

Colleen says
Hard question but I’ll pick the 80’s.
Molly says
J would have to say the 90’s!
Shelly says
I think I belong in the ’60s. I would have made a good hippy.
Wendy says
The nineties… young enough to enjoy but old enough to appreciate those years
Shelia King says
70’s when my only jobs were to clean the kitchen and vacuum. Loads of time to play!
Margery says
I am torn between the late 90’s and early 2000’s. We had computers but they were not a part of daily life, the most the my kids had for computer fun were the simple game boys and limited time on the computer as we had dial up. Cell phones were for adults, and text messaging was expensive. I have raised children from my oldest in 1991 to having a 14 year old in 2020. There lives have been so different, but I fit in better with the early 2000’s.
Rachel B says
The 90’s.
Aimee says
In the 1950s!
Samantha B says
Normally I would say the 50s because I love the clothes but, the politics, racism, and gender stereotypes would have been really difficult. Due to that, I think this is the correct decade for me, even though there are so many sucky things currently happening.
Lyra says
I think I belong in the 80s – and as much as I love big hair and the crazy music from this last century, I mean the 1880s. France specifically! Sure the health care wasn’t the best and industrialization was making everything and everyone miserably, but dangit, the ART! Put me in Paris, and put me down for these amazing prizes, please. 😀
Diane says
70’s for me! Thanks Mavis.
Hannah H says
I’ve been told I’m an old soul and probably belong in the 60’s or 70’s!
Lana says
I would love to go back to the 60’s for awhile. I want to be a child at Christmas and visit my grandparents again.
Kathy G says
I’d like to be in the 80’s again-before social media, cell phones, when the kids were young. Life was busy and sometimes complicated but nothing like now.
Ingrid says
The decade I most belong in is the current one! Thank you for this awesome giveaway, Mavis!
Jeannine says
I am liking where I am right now. I have so many blessings today; good job, fabulous husband, a child who is a productive member of society. Except for this little COVID incident, life is pretty good.

I belong just where I am, even at this terrible time…..I miss the vigor and health of being younger but nothing beats getting to know and love my 4 grandkids as they grow up, half are teenagers now!
Vicki says
this one!
loriann says
I think the 90s was dece. Was most fit, most active socially, enjoyed music

I think a future decade.
Beth says
The 90″s!!!
Hannah F says
I think I belong in the late 1800s. I feel old these days! 🙂
This is a neat idea for a giveaway!
Lisa H. says
Yummy Giveaway! I always thought I would fit in well in the early 1900s, at a point when electricity and running water with indoor plumbing were available but corsets weren’t a requirement. Life seemed simpler then.
Jeanette says
When my daughter was little, the 80’s!!
Cathy Carroll says
I’m thinking the 1980’s. Life was full with my children, pets and I had lots of energy.
Thanks for sending me down memory lane!
Vanessa C says
I’m drooling! My music says I belong in the 1980’s (Depeche Mode & Cure PRIME TIME!) but my mannerism is more pre-Draft 1960’s. I’m strong and outspoken but servient, as I don’t like to be in charge. I believe there’s always a way to get things done yourself, however, there are sexist roles in my household and I’m perfectly ok with NOT mowing or fixing toilets! 🙂
Teckla says
Like others have said, I feel I am where I should be; where God put me, but I think the 60’s were a lot less stressful. People were a lot nicer, more caring, and life was ever so much simpler! ‘Course I was only a teenager back then, so my perspective might be a bit skewed. LOL
Colleen says
The 2000s… those were good years!
(I accidentally put an entry/comment as a reply to someone else’s comment and don’t see a way to delete it. I hope that doesn’t count as a double entry)
A T says
probably the years 1900-1910.
Thanks, Mavis!
Shana says
I belong in the 1900’s….turn of the century. I love making soap, sewing clothes for my children, knitting, gardening, preserving food, cooking over fires. And my kids love eating by candlelight!! (Though I will be the first to admit that I would miss many conveniences we enjoy today!).
Kerry Fowler says
I experience saudade for the 1950s, a quieter, simpler time.
Wendy L says
The 1950’s were a slower time of my childhood.. Thanks for the memories and the delightful giveaways.
Lori N says
Hmm, while I’m not enamored of the big shoulder pads and big hair (so.much.hairspray.) I guess I would choose the 80’s…just because it was when my husband and I were young and the whole future seemed possible to us. So many good memories. OR I would choose the 2000’s because it is when our grandchildren came along.
Brianna says
I feel like 2000-2010 decade I most belong in. I was just emerging into adulthood and finding myself. I changed so much during that decade and I would love to relive some of the moments,
Erin Huffstetler says
Either the 1920s or the 1950’s. I love the style of both decades.
JB says
Hi Miss Mavis,
I am not interested in entering today’s giveaway, but your question struck a chord with me. Without hesitation, I can say I was born to belong in the 1940’s (even though I’m not yet 30 years old)! I grew up with my grandparents close by & their generation remains my favorite peer group. ☺
Nancy says
I love lobster rolls and blueberry pie!
Right now, because I have twin grandsons who are 18 months old and I wouldn’t want to miss any part of being with them and watching them grow.
Kathy H says
Lobster….yum!!!
I think the 2000’s. I was old enough to know better but still young enough to have crazy fun.
Kathy says
The 1970’s. Good music, great family gatherings and my father, who was the best friend a girl could have, was still alive. We lost him in 1976 but it was still a great decade to be alive.
Juliet H says
I belong in this decade. While the 80s may have seemed simpler (when I was growing up), I like today’s advances.
Kim says
Perhaps the 1950’s. I love to garden, cook, and preserve.
Heather says
I miss the 80s, but that might have been because I was a care free child. I really think I belong in the 20s.
Georgie says
I’m thinking the 1890’s on a farm, living off the land.
Holley says
I agree with quite a few of the other’s comments! Especially Julie T! I like wherever I am!
Lesley says
I belong in this decade. I’m retired and enjoying being home and reading and gardening. I also adore being a grandmother in this decade.❤️
The runner up would be the 70’s… or what I remember of it.
Tanya says
I probably belong in the ‘90s when I thought life was hard but didn’t know what was to come.
I haven’t had a lobster roll in decades and this post made my mouth water! And wild Maine blueberries! Yum!
Vicky says
The ’50’s would be my choice. It seemed like life was simpler then, especially in a small town.
Lyn G. says
I think the 80s
Carrie C says
I always think I belonged in the 90s. Baggy clothes, angsty music, rock band t-shirts, no social media, emo through and through. My favorite books are from that time. I was in my teens so maybe everyone feels nostalgia for the time they were just becoming who they wanted to be or hoped to be. Now I’m about to turn 40 and I still wear chucks and Doors t-shirts 🙂
Eduvina says
Thanks soooo much Mavis. Give me my 80’s back. I like where I’m at now. But I had a blast in the 80’s.
Alison Cooper says
I liked the 70’s when things were simpler but cant imagine going back.
pamela s says
possibly the 1880’s or 1890’s
Cathy D says

My wife and I both agree that we belong back in the 1950s. However, as actual Children of the 80s, that decade comes in a close second for us.
(Also, we don’t ‘do’ good lobster rolls down South where we live nor do we see fresh Main blueberries in the market, so it would be delightfully delicious for us to win this particular giveaway.)
Jenny Smith says

J Oberle says
The 70s 🙂

I believe God put me here for a readon, not sure what it is but… that being said I dream and wonder if I could have survived the 1860s on a homestead somewhere in the west. Enjoying your blog

Debi says
The 1970s as I was a young adult and would now know what not to do.

I’m old, so it’s the 50’s and 60’s for me. Such simple times. I was born in RI so I absolutely love lobster rolls. I love the rolls grilled (like you do the bread for grill cheese) and a fat deli hot dog——heaven. Also blueberry pie is one of my favorites. I’d so love to win this, I’ll even go off my Keto diet for this.

Thanks for all the giveaways!!!
D. Ellis says
I miss the 80’s. Great music, great family tv shows….I felt safe playing all over our town as a child, and so much more!
Veronica says
I’ve always loved the concept of living as nobility in the 1600s in England, but I really like the rights that all women in the USA have now and the medical advances of our time.
Michelle O. says
I feel like I belong in a simpler time like 1930’s Labrador – canning, quilting, sewing, woodstoves and homemade bread. There was lots of hard work but everyone helped each other and when it was time for a break – the best kitchen parties were had!!
Thanks for the chance to win!
Debby T says
The 50’s. I was a child and life was simple.
Linda Harper says
I’d say I belong to the 1980s (maybe the 1880s!). My boys were upper grade school and junior high and we were really into gardening and canning a lot of food. I had friends doing the same thing. I like the fact that we weren’t as in demand or attached 24/7 and really enjoyed my growing family. Now, we are empty nesters, newly retired with grandchildren and really enjoy our time together, so I can’t complain.
Mary Beth says
I love this decade. My life as a single woman working as a scientist is so much easier than it would’ve been at any previous point in our history. Plus, with technology I can make friends all over the world and they can ship me delicious food!
Joanne Cosh says
40’s
Heather says
The 1990s were good.
Yummy prizes.
Mimi says
1930’s or 40’s are appealing, before TV, when life was a little quieter. Although I would have a hard time taking my independent self back to a time when women had fewer choices.
Emily says
The 2000’s! All four of my babies were born in that decade and I have loved every minute of them, even if I barely survive their crazy teenage years.
Sharon says
I belong in the 70’s. Life was simpler and way more fun.
jacqui says
The 70’s. More simple, but still modern. College was affordable and it was much easier to live on one income so less pressure on families!
Dawn says
I definitely like this decade. Especially if I get lobster rolls and pie!
Kristin says
I love of love old fashioned things, but really, I love having the choice instead of being forced to do things like can, make bread, etc. And I love my phone, but really, I think life was better without them. So I guess I’ll go with the decade of my birth, the 80’s. 🙂

The 90’s! This was when I became an adult and went out on my own and had my freedom before marriage, children, major bills or responsibilities. The music scene in Seattle was hot and my figure was waaaay before the ravages of menopause, ha!

Dianne says
I belonged in the 1860’s – this is my 2nd life : )

I’m definitely an 80s and 90s girl!
tia in boise says
I feel an affinity to the 8o’s (my teenage years), but cringe when people point out how long ago that was…
Susannah says
Probably the 1940s. I’ve always been an old soul and I feel like I should have been born in another era (although I wouldn’t have dealt well with lack of women’s rights). I identify a lot with the literature from the era and the fashions…plus women were doing more because of the war. So yes!
Joan S. says
Somewhere before the 1920’s….late 1800’s . Just feel like I belong there.
Have never had a lobster roll.
Sandy says
Definitely this decade.
Lissa in Boise says
My heart is in the 80s since that’s when I was in high school and is still pretty much the soundtrack of my life. My make-up routine is from the 90s since that’s when I finally had enough money to take care of myself. My heart is in the 2000s since that is when I met my husband and had my daughter. The 2010s are a bit of a blur (see prior sentence about said daughter) but I was in shape so I wish I looked like the 2010s. I belong in the 2020s because I am HAPPY TO BE ALIVE. I truly enjoy your blog. I’m so happy you are where you belong Mavis. I think I’ve been reading your daily foibles for about 10 years. My how time flies.

Michelle says
Definitely the 90’s!!! Such a fun and carefree time in my life.
Erika says
I would like to scroll back to 10 years ago…. the technology is moving too fast for me! I’m 45, but I’m a pretty low-tech person. Love my garden, a good fire in the Woodstove, cooking, and some books.

The fabulous 40’s! I love the music, movies, hairstyles… everything about the 40’s I am in love with and I’ve been that way since I was in my 20’s, being 40 something I don’t think I’ll outgrow my love of that decade, sigh.

Late 18th early 19th century.
(I’m a Victorian at heart since I was a little girl!)

1970s Totally
Patty P says
I always say that I’m in the wrong time period. I love learning about the time of the Westward Expansion and could see myself as one of those brave women who headed out west on the wagon train not knowing what was coming next but knowing that I could handle it. I’d say the 1860’s would be the time for me.
Dawn Harris says
My husband’s birthday is coming up and he loves lobster. That would be such a treat! Thanks for another great giveaway! I think the advantage of living in this current time is that we have the benefit of learning from the past while being extremely fortunate for the opportunities available today. For me, this means that I can choose to live with minimal machines in my home, heat with wood harvested from our own land, hang out my clothes to dry, grow and raise much of my own food, educate our children ourselves, work alongside one another and our neighbors on a daily basis, use barter and trade as a significant portion of our home economy, worship as we see fit, enjoy a high level of autonomy in our day to day activities but also have access to information quickly when needed, medical care we need, and communication with loved ones far and near. I have often said I was born in the wrong decade if not the wrong century but medical care is one thing of the modern world I am most grateful for. I would love to visit the pre-industrial revolution world for at least one day to see and smell and listen to how the Earth was different. I would love to visit a time before the tractor and automobile replaced the draft horse and observe how life moved at a human and animal pace and everyone needed each other to get the needed things done. I get the irony of musing these things on the internet but our modern life is full of contradictions. It is hard to be a purist. But, I try to take the good of now with the wisdom of the past and ignore the rest. Whatever decade that is, I am not sure. Thanks for letting me mull this over. Shows there is no such thing as a simple question! 🙂
Nanci Fitschen says

Kelly says

Jane says
i came of age in the ’70s, but because of the sexism and racism then (not that it’s gone away, but it’s better), I’d say I would stick with this decade.
Meanwhile, I live in the Midwest, so lobster rolls would be a very very rare and wonderful treat!
Vicki Fetui says
I would have to say I think I belong in the 80’s for no particular reason other that I felt more free and experienced more adventures that decade than any other.

Shirley Funk says
1950s
Sue says
OMG lobster rolls and blueberry pie sounds like my fantasy meal!
I might be alone in this but I’m going to say the 1930s. I’m just drawn to the stories about people who persevered during the hard times of the Depression and the Dust Bowl. And the 20s and 30s also seemed like a transition time between old fashioned self sufficient style living and the era of appliances and technology.
There is another part of me that thinks I should have been born in the 1880s. But then why do I like spending time online! 🙂
Thanks for these giveaways, Mavis, they are really fun!
Sue

Dianna says
2000s I think.
Gail Allen says
Intriguing question. I first thought 1960’s of my youth but I was too insecure then. I choose 1990’s because I was in mid-life, more confident, deep into my career and traveling with my husband. Of course I’ve always thought I was born in the wrong century. I’ve never had a lobster roll and would love to try it. Thanks for your great blog.
Vicki says
I would love to re-visit the 70’s, my favorite decade!.

I will always feel nostalgic for the 80’s, but I think I’ll be happiest if I embrace the time I’m living in now. Even 2020 has brought blessings!
MB says
80s for sure. I was lucky enough to graduate in ‘85. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
Andrea L Johnson says
I’m not sure I belong to any decade much, but many of my values are shaped by the 1960s (trying to make change for the better in the world, getting back to nature, a deep search for meaning), but my (non) fashion sense is a weird hybrid of the 60’s, 80s and 90s. What’s a girl to do?!? More Levis and cowboy boots, I guess.
Donna says
I loved growing up in the 60s! Thankful to have experienced each decade since then.
BethC says
The 70s. Then I could go back and relive college (in the second half of the decade), which I loved. The decade also included my first trip to Maine.

I love where I’m planted at any moment. The 70s were great when I was raising my children, the 2000s have been lovely for watching my grands grow, and I’m looking forward to seeing what life paths they choose. If I have to narrow it down, the 2020s look as though they will be exciting.

I am going to say the 90’s. It was the last time I was in Maine enjoying both the lobster roll and a blueberry pie.
Deborah R says
My kids think I’m stuck in the 90’s. I do sort of miss when my phone was stuck on the wall, but grandkids are so great I wouldn’t want to be any other time but now. And blueberry was my answer to favorite pie question ;).

Jean says
1970s — best music ever!
Kania Janjua says
Hmmmm…that’s a very thought provoking question… and I’m not really sure. I have always been fascinated with 1800’s things…like the large-skirted dresses (I have always thought they were beautiful and would have loved to wear one but…how does one use the water closet in one of those?…lol), the beautiful REAL wood furniture they had, and riding in a beautiful carriage. Sigh. But then, I sure love me some 1960’s & 1970’s music and SO glad I grew up during that era.
Carolina Cooper says
Can I pick THREE favorites? I loved the 60’s because that was when I was a teen, went to college, got married, started having children. But then there was the 90’s when we left Philadelphia and moved to Maine. I do love Maine lobster rolls and blueberry pie. But then there was 2018 when my long awaited Prince Charming was born (in Maine!!!)…my favorite person, in my favorite place. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Cindy Brick says
It is really hard to type while you’re drooling…
I belong most to this decade — and the previous one, too. The changes in our history are fascinating.
Dana says
I have always thought I should have been an adult in the 1950s. I like a slower pace and although I appreciate technology, life seemed simpler when it wasn’t so advanced. Great question and Mavis, I’ve never had a lobster roll. I only know that the HH loves them.
Sherry in Sumner says
Lobster? Did you say lobster? A fabulous dinner and dessert to boot! A great giveaway, Mavis.
I too am an old soul and feel like I belong in the 1940s. WWII was in full force in the first part of the decade, and although life was very hard during that time, our country was also united and proud. Victory gardens were prevalent and necessary. People at home did everything they could to help family and neighbors as well. Rosie the Riveter was one tough woman icon and symbolized strength, independence, and perseverance. All citizens mourned those brave souls who lost their lives. But then the war ended in 1945. Can you imagine the exuberance when the troops came home? Yes, our country was united and I would have been proud to have been a part of it.
Janet Kynerd says
If I had to go back and relive a decade it would be the 2000’s. My wonderful husband and I were in better health and my my mother, son and grandson were still living.

Lace Faerie says
World calendar decade…2nd half of the 70’s when I was in high school and 1st half of the 80’s as young adults just starting out. My decades…my twenties. We were starting our family and I loved being a wife, full time homemaker, and a mother of 3 under 5. The happiest, most purposeful of years of my life until I became a grandmother who cares for her grandbabies while their parents’ work schedules over lap. So my 50’s have been pretty damn great, too!
Susie says
Definitely the 1980’s
Margaret W. says
The ’80’s most definitely! Music was still phenomenal, cool clothes and music. We were going to make an impact in our corner of the world. Families were more cohesive.

Paige says
I didn’t live through it, but I’ve always felt like I belong in the 1950’’s!
Susan M White says
The 1950’s hands down. I love the fashion of the 50’s where women could wear dresses and pearls in their everyday routine and it wasn’t thought weird. Men looked so classy in double-breasted suits and fedoras, people dressed for dinner, and formal Sunday family dinners were an absolute given. It was such a completely different world back then, and in a lot of ways, I think the sense of family was a lot stronger than it is sometimes today. Family businesses thrived, the average working man was respected, and everyone knew their neighbors. I just love everything about that time period.
Marlene Wurtzbacher says
I would like to live in the 1940s. It was the Depression era, but I would have learned to be more frugal, I am sure. I like the clothing styles, the music and the movies!
linda says
I’m happy with the decade I’m in now.
Kay Bowles says
I am a child of the 50’s. I loved my time growing up.
Trish Baker says
This is a tough one because I can look back and see significant things in all decades. As far as music goes, I’m a classic rock girl, but I guess if I have to choose, it would be the decade I’m now. Toni Childers says
1980s–but without all the shoulder pads and hairspray, please.
Kara says
1940’s (minus the depression and World War…)
Linda Practical Parsimony says
I am in many ways still a child of the 60s. I graduated h in 1964. But, I got two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in the 90s, so that was good, too, since I love going to school. But, I like my flip phone for the mobility and safety.
Ellen C. says
Since my music preferences esssentially only encompass 1970’s to early 1980’s, I would choose the decade 1970 to 1980. But if I were to relive it I would love to retain the confidence and experience gained from the here and now.
Shelle says
I’m a believer in the phrase “bloom where you are planted,” so I belong right here, right now, exactly where I am!
Also, when we visited Maine two summers ago, my brother surprised us with an authentic Maine dinner of lobster and blueberry pie. It was awesome!
Dawn says
Probably the 1950s
Linda T says
When I was a kid I thought I should have been born in the 1800s, because I loved the long dresses and hats and bustles. As an adult I know how hot women must have been dragging all that crap around on a hot summer’s day! And I definitely could not have managed to keep my mouth shut and be “the little woman.” No rights, husband could beat you if he wanted, couldn’t vote -no thanks. I’d have ended up being chained to the kitchen radiator!
So I guess I will trust God’s plan and be happy with the decade I was born in -1950s. I’ve seen a lot of changes in rights for women, and rights for others, I lived through the tumultuous 60s, and adjusted all out business operations for the Y2K threat that never came when the century changed. So far we have made it through 2020 and Covid, though many have not and we mourn them. But we have had a lot of joy as well.
Lobster and blueberry pie could make me very happy!

Jiya S says
The 1980s — after all, that’s where 90% of the music I listen to was recorded.
Sharon D. says

Laura says

Wendy says
Definitely the 80’s. Big hair and great music!!
Angela D. says
I think the decade I belong in is the present one. I always try to be the best version of myself that I can be, in the present. Looking back? Well, we can’t go back, can we?! So, I don’t think I could “fit” back into any previous decade.
Tisha says
