As a way of giving back and thanking you for showing up here on this crazy little blog of mine, whether it’s everyday or every week or just when you need to pop by for a recipe, I thought it would be fun to give away 6 unique gifts this holiday season that have brought us a bit of happiness over the past year.

Some of the giveaways will be locally made products we’ve discovered since moving to New England, some will be handmade, and few will be something I discovered long ago but still find myself using year after year. These 6 giveaways are my way of saying thank you. I love getting up everyday to write this blog! So thank you for being a part of this blog, and for being here to keep the conversation going.

Mavis’ Favorite Things Giveaway – Day 5 –Classic Cheese Pairing Condiments Gourmet Gift Box from Wozz! Kitchen Creations

So it’s no big secret around here that we LOVE our pickety bits. And so when I was hunting around online for something new to add a little pizzazz to our Christmas feast this year,  I stumbled upon Wozz! Kitchen Creations from Twin Mountain, New Hampshire and I could tell immediately by the photos and online reviews that I had found a winner. 

Cheese, crackers and some delicious spreads? What could be better? 

I think it’s going to be just the two of us this year, and so the idea of putting together a Charcuterie board for our meal rather than baking a ham and 5 side dishes and eating those leftovers for an entire week, is very appealing to us. It will be something different, something a little more relaxed and you know what? We’re totally looking forward to it.

Hanging out, enjoying a bunch of delicious pickety bits by the woodstove and looking out our big picture windows with snow all around…. It sounds like a pretty nice way to spend a quite Christmas at home if you ask me.

    Those look delicious and funny enough since it will only be three of us this year we are forgoing the usual beef tenderloin and had already decided pickety bits was the ticket for Christmas Day. I’m going to send my son to the Trader Joe’s and Aldi to collect some interesting cheese and the other “bits”.
    I find joy in being aware of each little moment in life. Whether that be a deep conversation with my Dad (who has been very ill and is elderly), sitting still with a cup of coffee and petting the dog, folding a load of laundry fresh from the dryer or watching my garlic grow…it’s the little things. I find that joy is a way of life for me. It hasn’t always been that way but when I CHOOSE joy, I am more content and peaceful.

      My grandchildren!!!! My Jersey grandsons, brothers ages 5 1/ 2 and almost 4, and the Long Island twins, brother and sister, 3 y.o.!!!! All unique personalities, but all so full of love and life! They warm my heart!

    This is hard, I will have to say my child, but not naming which one of the six because it has been a different child at different times that brings the most joy. And we are having picky bits on Christmas Eve in the afternoon to balance out our normal Ice cream sundaes for dinner, yes ice cream for dinner. I set it all out on the table and we grab what we call the snack plates they are three compartment weekly food prep containers with tall edges and every fills up their choices.

    My dog, Mr. Cooper
    With people you have to be very careful with their emotions and sensitivity. With my dog, it doesn’t matter how long I’ve been gone he just wants to be with me. He waits for me to get settled and jumps right on my lap ready for snuggles.
    If I try to read or be on my phone he makes sure to get between me and the distraction and reminds me he’s there for me if I need to keep my hands busy.
    My dog will never make me cry or let me down, he only brings happiness

He has stepped up and taken on so many more roles around the house taking the load off of me. We also got a new puppy this year and so of course she is a joy as well.     I have to say my husband brings me the most joy. We’ve been besties since I was 17 and he was 19. Married 35 years and counting. We’ve crossed lots of bridges together and even though he’s caused me serious amounts of stress when we were younger and not always on the same page, we pretty much have all the bumps smoothed out now. Not only is he my best friend, but he is the person who causes me the least stress. He doesn’t vent to me or expect me to solve any of his problems. He doesn’t hold grudges and he expects pretty much nothing from me at all other than to be his other half. We’ve lived in a tiny house together now for the last two years and between that and the virus limiting life away from each other, I can honestly say we are living happily ever after…

    My mom brings me such joy! At this time she is now home with me, under hospice care. She is saying goodbye to all those she loves and is ready to move on to her home in heaven. We are reminiscing and laughing over wonderful memories and enjoying each other’s company. It makes me realize just how unimportant things are beyond simple needs. Facing the future without her will be very difficult.

    My dog, Daisy. I have my 88 year old mother with dementia living with me. As I am the sole caregiver now on 6 years, it has played havoc with my health. I had cardiac issues, and was told that 69% of some parental sole caregivers have health issues, so Daisy tends to keep me sane and smiling.

That would be my garden and gardening, which is a 12 month endeavor for me, planning, starting seeds, planting, tending, harvesting and cutting, evaluating, reimagining, and starting the cycle all over again. My family are precious, but my garden is pure, selfish, technicolor joy.

    Not having any children or close family, I would have to say I am most contented (is that not joy in itself?) when my loving dog is safely tucked next to me in bed at night. Her daytime antics make me laugh out loud and exploring outside would not be half the fun without her.

    There are many people that bring joy to my life; my hubby, my kids, my grand daughter. But thinking about who brings me the most, believe it or not my mother in law! We sort of started out at odds just not really know what’s each other’s rolls in our life was. When my mom passed she stepped up 100%. She didn’t try to fill a role that wasn’t hers but she filled a void in my heart that was greatly needed. My mother in law is truly one of a kind.

    Right now it’s my son. He has come to a place in his life (30’s) where he feels the need to connect with me. We are finding that we are really so much alike and are on a similar journey spiritually. He helped me find my way out of a deep depression due to sickness and fibro, this spring. He called me everyday to talk about our wins and then he travelled out here to spend some time together. This newfound relationship has meant so much to me.
    In all of my difficulties I looked forward to your emails Mavis. I see what you are doing and hope someday to be consistent with my emails as well. I love reading about your adventures and think it’s so wonderful that you have ended up where you are. Even if I couldn’t write or do much of anything I could always read your emails. Our little family here know who Lucy is and follow you adventures. But really I am off topic now. My son brings me the most joy right now.     The person who brings me the most joy is my husband of 41 years!! We started dating 4 days after I turned 16 and he was 19. We got married right after I turned 18. Now 2 kids and 5 grandchildren later, he is still there treating me like a queen!! He is absolutely the best!!!

After a recent fall which resulted in a concussion, a skinned nose, 4 stitches in my lip and looking incredibly horrible, he still tells me I am beautiful! And he still tells me dinner is delicious when I know it’s not that great. I am truly blessed!

    My husband, without a doubt! We met in our 70’s – he lived in an apartment with a cat, I lived on a farm with 60 goats, horses, dogs, cats, chickens (get the picture?). He said he “loved animals”. Well, he has certainly proved it . . four years, we just came in from feeding in the muck and mud, dirty and tired. He gave me a big hug and told me he loved me so much it hurt. What more could I wish for!

We’re soaking up the family time, because some of us move to Alaska in a week and the rest will stay in Texas, at least until June. Going to miss my sweet girls.

    While my husband and children bring me joy, my first 2 grandchildren were born during this pandemic. They have brought me joy in ways I expected but some that were unexpected.
    I’m a middle school math teacher and it was decided we would go back in person, full time, 5 days a week. To say it has been challenging and exhausting is an understatement and some weeks there are more bad than good days.
    On a bad day, I can go home and FaceTime my granddaughters and watch them as they tackle those baby milestones. While I can’t be there in person, I have been there for bath time, the first unsteady crawling moments, as they learn to feed themselves and their first “dada”,”mama” and “nana”.
    As they begin to recognize me even through FaceTime, a baby giggle brings me unimaginable joy!
