Mavis’ Favorite Things Giveaway – Day  2 – LL Bean Boat and Tote 

Made in Maine one bag at a time, my all time favorite tote, the LL Bean Boat and Tote Bag is today’s giveaway. I grew up using these bags and here I am, all these years later, still lugging stuff around in them. 

These totes are insanely sturdy, well made and look pretty cool too. 

Introduced as Bean’s Ice Carrier way back in 1944, the Boat and Tote was billed as a bag made of builders’ canvas for hauling ice “from car to ice chest.” Today you can spot our iconic tote doing heavy lifting everywhere – from the grocery store to the beach, to the library and commuter train. Tested to hold up to 500 pounds!!

Handcrafted in Maine since 1944, one tote at a time. The large totes are 15″H x 17″W x 7½”D.

Three lucky people will each win 1 Large LL Bean Boat and Tote in navy blue with regular handles

All you have to do to enter this giveaway is leave a comment below and let me know what you will use your tote bag for.

That’s it, that’s all you’ve got to do. Just answer that one question. Pretty complicated, right? 😉

    I have used one of these for YEARS, a decade maybe even, for my beach bag. It is still sturdy as ever but the handles are icky now from sunblock hands carrying it so it might be time to retire mine. These bags make such great gifts if anyone is needing ideas.

    Hauling groceries from my car, up the stairs to my apartment. I’m a senior citizen, and often use a folding car for this, but with winter coming, the car can be a challenge in the snow. Beautiful bag, and if it’s Bean, it’s got to be great!

    I was gifted one of these 3 years ago and use mine everyday as my purse/carry all. It has held up well and washed well, but I will be replacing it next year with another of the same. I carry my wallet, water bottle, flashlight, leather man, reading material (because waiting rooms still have nothing), personal care items, sunglasses, a few snacks, reusable grocery sacks, etc. and I also end up with all the stuff my kids take with them and decide they do not want to hang onto. It holds it all! These totes are amazing and so practical.

    This awesome tote would replace a much inferior one that I falling apart. I use it almost every time I leave the house to take kids to practices and activities.     I got 2 of these exact bags for Christmas a few years ago and I love them. My plan was to use them for groceries. I love that they stand up as apposed to my regular canvas ones from Trader Joes. I do you them for groceries, but they are constantly in use for other things. Currently one is packed with the items I need for homeschool coop every week. The other hangs in the laundry room filled with my other floppy bags to easily grab for the grocery store. I had been planning on adding more to my list this year! Bonus that I can toss them in the washer and they come out fine (I think they say hand wash…).

    I would sew on patches that I have been collecting from National Parks and use it as our Family Adventure Bag. We love to go on Saturday adventures and would throw in our snacks, towels, extra socks, gloves, hats, etc.

    I have given these totes to all of my family members and some of my friends. I have filled them with Christmas homemade goodies or bought tea and cookies and put them in one of the smaller totes for birthday gifts along with a good book.
    I have several, one of which I used to carry to work everyday, with files and my lunch bag or salad container and water bottle etc. One of the small ones is holding all of my water color painting supplies and another one holds extra mini blankets to be used to line our cats beds or pods during the winter.

    I would use mine to haul around all of the stuff that my three teenagers are always handing me and expecting to carry. Apparently they think I have eight arms! I would probably also use it for Farmer’s Market Days.

    I’ve had an XL one for 20+ years and I’ve used it for EVERYTHING! Overnight bag, craft supplies, books, potlucks, groceries (although mines a bit big for that!), toys when the kids were little, swim day supplies. Best. Bag. Ever!

    I have an old LL Bean that I used for many years when I taught school. I still have it even though it is dirty and worn. I don’t think it will ever wear out; however, it would be nice to have a nice new clean one to keep my seeds and garden markers and tags all together.

    I love those bags! Although I’ve never had one myself-my daughters were all gifted one and I’ve gifted them to others but never got one for me. Just like you quoted in the blog, the bags are good for everything. I would use it for short trips, lugging books, project bag (knitting and embroidery), groceries….

    Hi Mavis, love your blog. I was thinking about looking into these bags as I need something to put my piano books in. I’m a church pianist and during a pandemic that can look very different like playing on an electronic keyboard in a winery parking lot while everyone stays in their cars. Keyboard has no place to put the piano books as we are switching from one to another. Need a bag that has an open top and can stand on it’s own!

    I would use it for everything. With little kids 5 & under, I tote everything. I would use it especially a lot of towing swimming gear to the rec center for swimming with the kids, and then use it for packing my own things for quick trips overnight with HH. What a great idea Mavis. LL Bean is quality
