This afternoon I did something I haven’t done in a very long time. I sat still. For like 3 hours.
Recently my favorite boyfriend Ryan alerted me to the hot 20% off Botanical Interests seed sale that’s going on through 11/26. Knowing there was no way on earth I was going to leave my house on Black Friday, I decided to plug in my headphones, crank up the music, and begin to map out my 2013 garden so I could figure out what seeds I needed.
Although I have a general idea of what my garden plans are for next year, getting my goals down on paper, and trying to bring them to life is another story. So to get started I pulled out last years garden map. If you have never made a garden map before you should give it a try. Especially if you have major OCD like me. Because once you have the basic shape of your garden figured out, then the real fun begins… picking out new varieties of seeds to try.
I haven’t finished making my way through all the garden boxes yet, but there are a few vegetables I know I’ll be trying in 2013.
Winter Lakota Squash – Very colorful and a favorite of the Native Americans
Liazzano Cherry Tomatoes – These are suppose to be great for hanging baskets.
Minnesota Midget Cantaloupe – If they can grow these in Minnesota, I bet I can grow them up there in Washington.
Green and Purple Artichokes – I started some of these last fall, but I want to have a huge garden bed full of them like the one I saw at the French Laundry Garden in Napa.
Have you started making plans for next years garden yet? Is there anything new you want to try? Let me know, because maybe I’ll want to grow it too!

I would LOVE to see your list of must-haves for anyone doing a garden!! I don’t have NEARLY the space you do for a garden, but I’d love to hear what you absolutely recommend as the best of the best…as far as tomatoes, cukes, lettuce, carrots, corn, etc. I don’t know much about gardening…but have LOVED reading your blog this summer!! There’s some things that I just HAVE to plant next year, so would love to see what you liked the best from all the awesomeness that you grew this summer!!!
