Yesterday was such a gorgeous day. The Puggle love and I spent a good 3 hours outside planting seeds, pulling weeds and playing with her new ball. {You can see a short video of Lucy in action HERE}.
I cleaned up the mini herb garden we have growing alongside the greenhouse and planted 6 packets of Cilantro, Dill and Parsley seeds. Weeeee!
Now all that’s left is to plant my basil transplants in the greenhouse and then I’ll be officially done planting herbs for this year. {Basil seeds need higher temps that is why I am waiting}.
Hey Mavis, wasn’t it like 70 degrees up in Seattle yesterday?
Are you really that pale? Why aren’t you wearing a tank top and shorts like everyone else on the planet?
Ummm. That would be because I am a total freak that’s why. 😉 Oh, and because I only own one pair of shorts. And one tank top. And anyway, the colonial peeps in Williamsburg would probably not approve of me walking around in a tank top and shorts, so there. That is my excuse. I am conditioning myself for the colonial life of sun bonnets and dresses. Plus, being a Washington native, I melt at 70 degrees so I have to either garden really early in the morning, or at dusk.
How about you? Do you have a melting point? Or am I just a total weirdo?

Love your blog! Completely impressed by your garden, and by the fact you planted 2 packets of dill. Are you using them to attract beneficial insects? Because I don’t think my family will be eating 2 packets worth of dill in the next 50 years!
Mavis Butterfield says
Ha! Dill pickles. 🙂
Brandie says
Its a little weird that your melting point is 70…. Ours is closer to 110! Gotta love the Arizona heat! Happy planting.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yikes! 110?
Anna says
I melt at around 70 too! Don’t know how I survived in Az all those years. Love it up here on the Or coast!
I have been told it is still too early to plant stuff here. How can you get away with it?
Brandy says
I assume anyone who lives in the pacific northwest is pale! My melting point is about 90, my freezing point is like 70 with no breeze whatsoever, lol.
Dawn says
It was 90 here yesterday. That is all. (except this: Ugh!)

I’m in Portland… can I plant those same herbs here too now directing into the ground? Do they need direct sun? Can I plant them in my flower beds? What do you recommend?
Mavis Butterfield says
The seed packets all said plant seeds 2 weeks before last frost date on the herbs that I planted so that’s what I did. I would think Portland is similar to Seattle so I say go for it. My backyard is wooded and does not have direct sun but my herbs still seem to do fine. 🙂

Being pale is better than getting skin cancer! It’s gotten a bit warmer here and everyone’s out in shorts. I think they’re nuts! I’m still wearing sweaters. It’s not that warm!

It hit 85 degree yesterday and I stuck with my long sleeve t-shirt and jeans. I’m in northern Florida and the rain has brought on the mass influx of gnats and mosquitos…….already. I’ll take extra sweat any day of the week over bug bites. The bugs will blow through around the end of June and I’ll switch to my bug spray and shorts. So my melting point is in the 90s I suppose.

When I lived in Seattle area highest I cared for was 75. Now I live in southern Idaho and yes it is a dry heat so now 80. Today I was weed eating around the irrigation pipes and it was in the low 70’s and I over did myself and got a migraine. That always happens if I don’t pace myself doing yard work and get hot. I dread the 90’s and 100’s.

Haha, I just love the commentary!

Oh my gosh! I about melted and died yesterday here in Seattle too! Even though it was only 68 degrees I was sweating just watering my plants. boo.
Janice Shifflett says
How funny! Here on the Texas Gulf Coast we think 70 degrees is a cold front and break out our jackets.
Mavis Butterfield says
Ha!

Denver here. For me, putting on shorts is around 65 to 70 degrees. But as it is only April, not being prepared here can get you killed or frozen! I went in for X-Rays on Monday in shorts and by the time I came out, the sun had disappeared, the wind was up and 40 degrees.
