Yesterday the ground finally thawed enough to finish the rock border I started a few days ago. I needed to move the rocks forward a bit to accommodate the low growing alyssum I expect to plant in front of the viburnum hedge along side the house.
A very serious Black Fatty supervised nearby in between scratching for worms.
With about a one foot border in front of the viburnum, there should be plenty of room for the petite white, pink and purple alyssum flowers to grow.
Be still my OCD heart. Isn’t it beautiful?

It looks very nice, I will put that on my list of things to do! If you don’t want weeds to pop up in your rocks, sprinkle some pre-emergent such as corn gluten.

Try plain white vinegar in a spray bottle for weeds in rock paths or brick patios. Spray in full sun and let them turn brown and whither. Doesn’t work well on grass but does on broadleaf weeds. Another thing I’ve heard but haven’t yet tried is to sprinkle baking sode in the rocks because it changes the soil ph and nothing will grow there.

Great blog Mavis! I live in North Florida and have flower beds around our backyard fence. We have Rose of Sharon planted in the beds and are overcome with “winter weeds
” because of recent warm weathr and lots of moisture. Do you know if the vinegar might work on these weeds? Thanks.
