Well it’s over folks, watering the garden that is. This morning I peeked outside and there was a heavy mist in the air. And since rain wasn’t in the forecast until this weekend, I thought I’d give the garden one last soak today before the rainy season started up here in the Seattle/Tacoma area.
But I didn’t have to. As I walked out the door around 10 am, it started to sprinkle a bit, and it hasn’t let up since.
Ahhh, Seattle. I love your free rain. It makes me smile.
I guess it’s time to dig out the raincoats and rain boots, because even though the weather is cooling down and it’s raining, the garden is still growing {albeit much slower}.
I’m curious, have YOU stopped watering your garden for the year? Or is this just a Seattle thing?

I’m in N. IL and we have had such a drought this year. Still extremely dry here. We’ve already had a frost so my garden is pretty much done but there is still some flowers and herbs I’m still watering because we are so dry!! Wish we had some of your rain.

Do not water my garden. I only do a bit in the spring to help things out a bit,the roots just grow deeper. However this summer I had to water a little bit because of the drought.

I have only been watering a couple times a week. We are supposed to get rain on Friday. We’re still dry here in SW WA, but cooler and it has been foggy until noon the last few days.
I picked a 5 gallon bucket of tomatoes this morning. I have a gallon of spaghetti sauce going on the stove and made 1/2 gallon of salsa. Still have 6 large tomatoes for eating. They are winding down. Still lots of green ones.
Picking fewer yellow beans and peapods. Lettuce is going to seed. We have 2 pumpkins that will be orange for Halloween! Got a really late start on them. Happy to have 2! 🙂

here in the high deserts of Arizona, the days are still very warm. the garden is finally coming around, making one last attempt to grow a few blooms before the freeze hits. here, we enjoy a fall crop, thank goodness. and yes – still watering. but less.

I live in southern AZ, so I have an in-ground sprinkler system on a timer for the garden. Otherwise, I forget to water and all my plants die in 3 days. I can probably start cutting back on the watering times about this time of year, but it’s still in the 90’s and our summer rains are done. I still have beans, sugar snap peas, potatoes, carrots, lettuce, butternut squash, and a tomato plant going right now. Going to rip out the sweet potatoes one night this week and see what’s actually under all that crazy growth.

No haven’t watered in weeks since the drought finally did end. Plus everything is out now. We have been down in the 30’s at night.
Mavis says
Elizabeth, what state do you live in? 30 degrees is super chilly. Yikes!
Elizabeth says
Wisconsin. The winter coats are out, I came home from work yesterday to find my daughter wearing mittens in the house. The sun may be out and it is bright and shiny but it has lost the warmth in the air. Like I have said before when I made the childrens Halloween costumes it was always best to make them roomy to fit over snow suits and other warmer items.

Done with the watering….and just called the lawn mowing fellas and told them they could stop now too. Fall is here – my favorite season; yippppeee! And, another kind fella brought a bunch of pumpkins to the office, so I gots me some free pumpkins – woot!
