The day is still young but so far today we have harvested a pint of lettuce {can you measure lettuce in pints?} kale, 3 pints and 1 quart of tomatoes, 1 lemon cucumber and an onion.
Tacos are on the menu tonight so the lettuce, onion and tomatoes will sure come in handy.
Sun Gold tomatoes. Have you tried them? They are the best cherry tomatoes on the planet!
And the kale? Ahem, I think we all know where that is going…
Let’s just say I think I’m pretty blessed to have a puppy who will eat practically anything I put in front of her. I don’t even have to put it in my mouth and pretend to love it like I used to do with Monkey Boy when he was little to try and get him to try new vegetables.
Nope Lucy the puggle dog might just be the healthiest pup out there.
Oh, and the lemon cucumber. HELLO? Have you ever grown one before? This one is just a wee bit under ripe {it fell off the vine as I bumped up against it} but we’ve got more growing so I’m anxious to try them. It’s been years since I’ve had one and I can’t remember what they taste like.
Have you tried a lemon cucumber before? Do you like them?
Pick fruits or veggies in your garden this morning? If so, what?

I have been picking a few cherry tomatoes (love the sun gold!), but no regular ones yet. A couple of zucchinni, kale and several lemon cukes. I really like them because they are never bitter like some green cukes can be and have a wonderful flavor. I did spot a “boat” in the garden..that it what I call an un-seen, un-picked zucchini that has been hiding under the leaves until it is so big it will take two people to lift it! Will have to get it out and shopped up for the freezer.
Ellen in Clackamas says
Actually I will chop it because I don’t know what “shop” I could take it to

Lemon cucumbers are the bomb. They are truly my fav! And the one you have in your hand is my fav way to have them- ripeness wise. Hope you enjoy them.

I picked some green beans today and still need to pick some Juliet grape tomatoes that are ready. Yesterday we had grilled zucchini from the garden for dinner- second time this summer so far. My cucumbers are just starting to flower but hopefully I will eventually have lemon cucumbers and other cucumbers. My bush beans have been producing but so far the pole beans haven’t and since this is the first year I have grown them, I don’t know what is normal. They are flowering so I think I will have pole beans soon. Thank you for all your posts and pictures- always inspiring!

Picked rainbow chard, kale (both went in green smoothie!), basil, sun gold tomatoes, zuchinnis and the last of the bust beans and a few pole beans.
Randi says
What the heck-autocorrect!! BUSH beans not bust beans. SHeesh!

My late mother in law turned me on to these and now I have grown them for years. Love them! I tell the scaredy cats they have the consistency of an Asian pear with a cuke taste. Enjoy!

I have 2 4×4 garden plots/boxes and I planted a pickling cucumber plant in each. Those that are growing in the box with the squash are all yellow! They taste fine and are more numerous, but it’s a mystery to me why they’re like that. I asked my cousin who is a biologist and he said that cross pollination’s rare but could happen. Have you ever seen something like that before? Those in the other plot are generally coming up green.

Okay Ms. Mavis, I am in love with your little pint and quart baskets. Where did you get them?
Mavis Butterfield says
Texas basket company. 🙂

Hi,
Busy, busy, busy, Mavis,
I know that you’re trying to go for a couple of tons of food out of your backyard, do you weigh your eggs or just count them??? If you’re just counting them the average egg weighs 1 ounce. Since, you’ve harvested 1,717 eggs or 1,717 ounces = 107.31 pounds of eggs!! 😀
Have a safe and fun road trip to St Jude.
If you have a chance while in Memphis, go downtown to Beetle St area where the soul of Blues was started. Enjoy, free street entertainment while dining at local eatery.
