I was milling around The Home Depot yesterday when I spotted the most gorgeous purple viola plants and knew I had to buy them for my front window box.
When I was a kid my mother always planted pink, white and purple flowers in our yard. And now as an adult, I tend to gravitate to those colors as well. Funny how things work out that way.
Even though the temps are still pretty chilly and there isn’t a whole lot to choose from at the garden center, my window box is still jam packed with flowers. Right now I have daffodils, violas, cyclamen and moss planted. I’m not sure if those other little sprouts are weeds so I don’t want to pull them just yet. 😉
Well, I decided to finally do it this year. I’m finally going to re-stake the raspberry plants.
But first I have to clean up, prune and weed seven rows of raspberry plants before I can begin. It’s a total pain, but if I don’t get it now, it won’t happen this year. So that’s my big project for this week, sprucing up the raspberry patch.
Spring, it’s finally here.

Oh, it’s still snowing here in VA…not spring yet here! But we did get a taste of 70 degrees on the weekend. 🙂 There’s hope!
I too have always gravitated towards pink, purple, and white flowers. I’ve recently added yellow which looks especially nice with purple. Your window box is lovely!

Beautiful window boxes! I plan to finish planting my garden this week. I put some bush beans in last weekend, but I’m hoping to put my ‘Black Krim’ and ‘Brandywine Pink’ tomatoes in soon. Actually looking forward to squash too. 🙂

Your window box looks terrific, especially with the mossy side. Your weedy sprouts look like they could be self-seeded alyssum–did you have any there before?

I would love to work in my raspberry patch…but…it’s Minnesota…and with -14 below yesterday morning and -2 below this morning with still a very thick blanket of snow on the ground, the closest we’ve gotten to spring is the days are longer and the sun is a bit stronger, with not even one pussywillow peeking it’s fuzzy little head out yet.
Sure would love to see spring warmth and green here!

We do have leaves! And some growth toward next season. We staked ours up and thinned the patch. It was out of control even for a small-ish patch. Made us raspberry smoothies Sunday night, with your black bean fajita recipe (delish) for dinner, with some of the last of our frozen berries. Makes me love them all over again…
