Is it weird that while we were in Nashua I made the HH take me to Aldi so I could take a look around? Sometimes we visit museums when we travel, other times it’s grocery stores. Why be predictable, right?
Aldi’s every day price for milk. CRAZY!
Whenever I see pork chops for sale I want to yell PORK CHOPS and APPLESAUCE. And I have no idea why. Is that phrase from a movie of something and I’ve just had it stuck in my head all these years? I’d love to know the answer to that one.
Ground beef $2.49 a pound.
Boneless skinless chicken breasts $1.89 a pound.
2 Pounds Brown Sugar $0.99 {Those are holiday stock up prices in the NW}
5 Pounds Flour $1.59
Greenhouse tomatoes $0.75 a pound. Waaaaay cheaper than Costco.
And so were the mini cukes!
8 Ounces of Mushrooms for $0.79.
I didn’t try this brand of caramel waffles, but these treats are pretty pricey in regular stores, aren’t they?
I bet these are similar to the LU Cookies Le Petit Ecolier, The Little Schoolboy Cookies that sell for $3-4 at the grocery store. Has anyone tried these? Do I need to bring an extra suitcase next time and stock up on them?
And last but not least, fair trade coffee for $5.32 a pound. Not too shabby if you ask me.
So what do you think?
Do these prices compare with what you are finding in YOUR neck of the woods? Do you have an Aldi nearby? If not, do you wish they’d open a location near you? I sure do.

Brady Bunch… Pork Chops and Apple Sauce…
Buy a house in CT… be my neighbor. I need a lot more help than Mrs. HB
JC says
Yep, I was coming here to say that. It might originally be from a movie, but our generation will remember it from the Brady Bunch!

Aldi is life. I’m not sure how I grocery shopped before but I hope I never have to grocery shop without Aldi again! We move around every year and a half to two years and I always search for the town that will have an Aldi! It’s painful to go into a ‘normal’ grocery store anymore and see how much basic items cost. (Aldi brand ricotta is $1.69 here, normal grocery store $3.09 for the cheapest brand to give some perspective)

Love Aldis. I’m from Germany and I have been to many Aldis over there. What a treat.
I do wish we would get Lidl here in upstate New York.

We pay slightly less at Aldi in the mid west. Flour 1.19, eggs .32-.78, milk .79-1.19 and mushrooms .69. But even the prices you are showing is quite a bit lower than any of our major grocery chains. I love Aldi.
Brenda says
Aldi’s seasonal or specialty baked goods are all pretty good and the price can’t be beat!
Jane says
I really miss Aldi!! Moving to a state without one has been hard!
Diana says
5 lbs of flour at my Aldi in KS is $1.09. Eggs are less than $1/dz. Aldi is my first stop for groceries. Always.
Sandy Cirello says
OMG, Mavis…I live in Nashua, NH across the street from Aldi’s. Wish I knew you were there because I love reading your website and I just made your Apple Pie Jam.
Patty P says
I go to Aldi just about every week…mainly for the milk and produce!
Patricia says
I think prices are affected by the local economy no matter what grocery store you sop at. I would say you heard pork chops and applesauce from your grandma .
My goal is to try a lobster roll within 2 years. Your HHubands looked wonderful.

Yes, yes, yes! DO buy the butter cookies covered in chocolate (especially the dark chocolate!) I bought them for my husband, but liked them so much there were none left for him.
Dara Edgington Purcell says
The dark chocolate ones are exactly like the little schoolboy cookies. We love them! We also get the knock-off girl scout cookies they have at Aldi.
Helen in Meridian says
Are the knock-off Girl Scout Cookies like the thin mints? I only love one flavor….mint GS cookies.
Jessica says
Ok.. The Caramel wafer cookies are AH-Mazing! They taste just as lovely as the Trader Joes ones and cheaper to boot!
The chocolate butter cookies.. yeah.. they are not that flavorful.. I can totally do without them.. but they are super handy when you have a crowd of kids over for a bonfire and marshmallow burning.. use those instead of graham crackers and chocolate bars..
Those eggs were HIGH!!!
Jan Rhoades says
We go to Aldi once a month. Our prices here in Texas are even lower than those you showed. Every time we go there are more and more people.
Barbara Gantt says
My DH eats low calorie bread. He loves the Sara Lee bread. It is $nerly $4 a loaf, Aldi has the sane bread for $1.49. You cant beat their prices, Im in Vermont so prices are the same as NH.
Emily says
I have a one ingredient rule at aldi. If a product has only one ingredient (eg milk, eggs, bananas), I will buy it at aldi. Otherwise I’m usually not happy with the quality. If you compare nutrition labels on some of the cereal I think you will see what I mean. Their generic version of Special K has virtually no protein.
Laura says
Pork chops and apple sauce is a line from the Brady Bunch.
Out Aldi prices for milk, eggs and other staples are a bit lower. 29¢ for eggs and milk about 89¢.
Brenda says
Texas…milk hangs around .95 and I’ve seen eggs as low as .45 a dozen. And the produce is so pretty !
Gina says
We have Aldi’s here in South Dakota and I do buy their cheap CHEAP produce, wow! -But, can anyone tell me how is the quality of the prepackaged stuff? Like crackers, cereals, etc? Also, how is the meat? I’m kinda picky about meat. Thanks for any/all help!
Jessica says
I am meat picky also so I usually don’t buy their meat.. Their Cold cereals are great… kids nor I have any complaints at all. I buy the large containers of whole oats for oatmeal.. but not their instant packets. My pop tart kid has no issues with theirs. I don’t buy their granola bars only b/c I can coupon them cheaper at my double coupon store…
I do not like the graham crackers or the Ritz style crackers.. but the others are just fine.. Chips and pretzels are great.
If you like girl scout cookies.. they sell their brand of Samoa, thin mints and Tag-alongs.. I cannot tell the difference except price! lol
I buy cheeses, butter, baking supplies, 100% juices, bread,
My philosophy is this… if it looks interesting and I can afford it.. buy 1. if it is great buy again.. if not.. now I know!
gina says
Thanks Jessica! VERY helpful! And you’re right, give a new item a whirl and if you don’t like it, you’re not out that much $$! Hugs!

Double money back guarantee, they refund and you can get another.

I like to shop at Aldi’s but it could never be my primary store. On any given day, you may or may not find a particular product in stock. For example, I was in one of their stores last week – no sugar. Really, no sugar. If I was out (and I was) I would have to make a second stop at a second store.
My other issue is the specialized products. I found some really yummy Asian sauces – once, then never again.
I used to stop at Aldi’s every Friday then, it became every other Friday. Now, it’s maybe once a month or less. I usually just stock up on pantry items (tomato paste, spices, etc) to last several months.
Julia says
We do the “pork chops and applesauce” thing too whenever we have porch chops. We played the Brady Bunch clip for our son so he could join in the fun too. I also love Aldi’s but I find our produce isn’t that cheap. I love the meat, cheese, hummus and I get most of our staples there. For anyone who dumpsterdives their dumpsters are great! Don’t ask me how I know 😉
Nancy from Mass says
I grew up in Nashua, NH! (or, Nashuer New Hampsha with my accent).
The milk is a normal price but the eggs are more than double the price at the RI store i stop at after work. (typically .49)
The dark chocolate, sea salt caramels are AMAZING!!!! they are typically $2.99 a box. OMG, so good!
If you are still in NH, head north to the Lakes Region. Meredith, Moultonboro, Wolfeboro. Take in a short and somewhat easy hike up Rattlesnake Mountain in Holderness (about 1 1/2 miles RT).
Nancy from Mass says
and, No, there aren’t any Rattlesnakes on the mountain!
Karin says
Those Prices are way lower than the Aldi near me in central FL! Milk runs about $3.50 a gallon. The lowest sale price on milk here is $2.99, and that’s rare. Mushrooms were about $1.50 last time I went. They do have great prices compared to other area stores but I guess it is still relative to the local market. I wonder why NH is so much cheaper than FL.
Sharon says
There is an Aldi near me, but I never, never shop there. It is very small, dirty, and the produce is AWFUL – everything is wrapped in plastic wrap and placed on Styrofoam trays, so you cannot see what you’re buying – including the lettuce! I would rather pay more up front for quality than buy cheap and discard the bulk of my purchases within a day or two. Sorry, Aldi fans ….
Mavis Butterfield says
I haven’t been to a bad Aldi yet. What city/state are you in? I wonder why the standards at one store are so different than others.
Katie says
I like Aldi, and it is so cheap. I have learned to only buy produce that I plan on using soon. There produce spoils quickly. I think there cereals, crackers, cookies and snack products are fine, and are great for school lunches. I don’t usually buy animal products there. I get those at Costco. I trust the supply chain at Costco, and want to know that animals are being raised and processed humanely.
Denise says
I was wondering if Aldi stores carry organic produce and meats? I would love to see how prices compare to those items.
Carolyn says
It might depend on the store but the Aldis in our area (michigan) usually have some organic veggies and fruits – carrots, bananas, apples. I’ve even seen organic ground beef. They keep gradually adding more – probably as more people jump on the healthy food wagon.
Carolyn says
I love Aldi. It used to be just an extra stop because they didn’t take coupons but now I’ve given up on coupons and primarily shop Aldi & Costco. We have Meijer near is too but unless I watch the sales it just seems Aldi is cheaper and easier. It’s so nice to not have to price compare 13 different brands on the shelf and just grab the one kind of mayo, etc. And the best part is the husband just stops on his way home from work!
They’ve been remodeling the stores in Grand Rapids area and they’re absolutely beautiful! I actually enjoy Aldi far more than the Trader Joe’s they built a couple years ago.
Try the gluten free pretzels some time..even our family members that aren’t gluten free think they’re better than the regular pretzels (which are still good pretzels).
Dana says
I agree with the comment about produce! You have to be ready to use it because it is all super ripe. I find that Aldi in SC is fun to shop for seasonal stuff, spices, canned goods, and snack foods. I never buy meat there. It just never really looks good. Since it is almost time, they are a GREAT spot for buying Halloween candy. It is cheap…and it is the good stuff!
Jenny Young says
I’m a little late to posting again but most of my Aldi prices are the same. Except for milk & eggs. Our milk has been under $1 a gallon & eggs around .40 a dozen…..super crazy I know!
I love the butter cookies coated with milk chocolate. I think they also have some with dark chocolate, which I like more. I need to try the caramel wafers!
I buy at least one pack of button mushrooms & one pack of portabello mushrooms every week. .79 is sale price for us, it comes around about once a month or so. Most weeks it’s $129 which is still half the price of Walmart. I love the mini cukes, buy them often as well.
Lynn says
I have shopped at Aldi for years and in a number of states. I shop there with my list first and then anything I can’t get I buy elsewhere. My partner and I are very careful with food as I am an open heart surgery patient. Trader Joe’s has merged with Aldi. Now there are all kinds of gluten free, healthy options under the label Fit and Active. Cornish hens are great, Swai as good as any store. Try everything, you’ll be happy !!!
