So. I’ve been keeping a little secret from you.
A few days ago Lucy the Puggle Princess, the HH and I jumped into the car and headed east. We left Monkey Boy home to work and hold down the fort. I would have told you sooner but HELLO… I didn’t think announcing to the world that I left my 19 year old son home alone was a good idea. Have you ever seen an 80’s movie? Do you know what kids do when parents leave town? 😉
Seriously though, he’s a good kid. He did great. The house is still standing, and nothing was broken {I wrote that and then I was like, wait a second… is there even anything left to break? Bahahha}.
While I didn’t post about the journey in real time, I did take plenty of pictures and wrote a little about the journey along the way and will start sharing some of those stories tomorrow.
The reason for the trip? I wanted to spend an extended period of time on the east coast.
The original plan was for Lucy and I to fly and the HH would stay home. But once I started looking into bringing her on the plane, I quickly discovered according to the FAA, Lucy was too big to fit under the seat in front of me. And, because she is technically a pug breed, it means she is on the No Fly list for cargo as well.
So I don’t know how I did it, but somehow I convinced the HH to drive Lucy and me 3,000 miles across the United States. When The Girl gets out of school in mid June, I’ll pick her up and we’ll drive back to Washington state. It will be fun. Who knows, maybe this is the year we see the world’s largest ball of twine. 🙂
In the meantime, I’ll get to enjoy a change of scenery, detox from life in suburbia, plant my east coast garden {I want to try growing watermelon this summer}, finish a boatload of house projects, and have a few adventures along the way with Miss Lucy Puggle.
I packed the fridge with food/meals before we left so the boys should be fine while I’m away. As for me? Well, I’m excited for my own little food adventure… and I’ll tell you all about it next monday.
Life. It’s a gift. Get out there and have some fun.
Turn your “someday”… into TODAY.

Is there an old post about buying your east coast house?

I would love to hear more about your East Coast house and managing two gardens and homes! How often do you visit and for how long? How does that all work? Sorry, I’m nosy! 🙂

How did Lucy do in the car that long? So did the HH just fly home then if he was leaving you with the car? My husband and I are thinking of buying a second home somewhere and I am curious how the logistics of owning two houses works? And I am glad that you all made it there safely!

Crazy and cool!! Have a great time. We are heading east to upstate NY this summer when my niece graduates.
Then. Gulp. We are leaving my ten year old for a couple of weeks to hang with his cousins and aunt and uncle and grandma. Then my husband will fly out to retrieve him.
Never been away from him that long.

I drove with my cocker spaniel from Olympia, WA to Knoxville he was a great travel partner. It was really no problem to find hotels hat allowed pets. He helped me remember to take frequent breaks from driving and actually walk when I took those breaks (instead of just stopping for gas and “making time”). Hope you have a terrific time!

Have so much fun! And if you find yourself in the Albany, NY/Adirondack/VT area, I’d love to meet you for a cup of coffee!

Mavis! I don’t know if you’ll get close to Rhode Island while you’re on this coast, but if you do there are a few places you have to try. The kind of places that locals visit and that usually have lines out the door. Top of that list would be Allies Donuts in North Kingstown, RI.
Also, I think you should have a meet n’ greet event while you’re here. Like when authors do a book signing. You could do a…Blog Signing? Clearly I don’t know exactly what that would look like but I’m sure your fans on the East Coast would love to get the chance to meet you!
