Over the weekend drywall guy came and “hung” our new walls and let me tell you Bob, things are starting to look a lot better around here. π Over the next few days drywall guy will be taping the walls, adding mud, sanding, and lastly adding texture to our new walls {as well as repairing a few spots around the house}. According to Chino, I’ll then have about a week to get everything painted before the exciting stuff like cabinets, flooring and appliances get installed. Wahooo!
The photo above is what the office/ laundry room combo looked like before the remodel.
And now we have an office with 4 walls, imagine that!Β The old laundry room with french doors off the office area has been moved, and the new laundry room will have more of a mudroom feel to it. {I’m very excited about this space!!}
Behind the sheet-rock box is the new laundry room. If you look closely you can see the lines on the floor where the old wall was. By simply adding a wall to the office and having a mud/laundry room area off the garage, we were able to gain 5 feet in the family room. Yay!
New fireplace area.
Old corner fireplace and family room set up.
The new view from the kitchen.
Old kitchen with dated sofet, counters, cabinets and pantry.
New kitchen area {cabinets should be installed at the end of the month}.
We are getting there. Now, if I could just keep these sub-floors clean!

I’m LOVING the reno updates!! How exciting! You’re so smart to get it all done right away. We moved into our house a year ago with all sorts of cosmetic changes on our to-do list but haven’t gotten to many of them. Life tends to get in the way when you put it off.
It’s looking great!

So, the old layout, when you entered thru those white double doors (not the glass ones), you had to change direction or you’d walk right into the laundry room wall? If that’s how it was, what in the world???

Love these updates! We added on to our house a couple months ago and are redoing a lot of the inside. Hubby is doing most of the mud work/sanding himself in his very little spare time, so it has been a slow and dusty process. And we’ve had the plywood floors for a couple weeks and probably will for another 2 weeks- gotta love the little wood pieces being tracked around. I have a 5 month old (and 3 and 4 year olds) so I’m saying my prayers that we get a floor in before he starts crawling at 6 months like my others did. Otherwise I’ll have to put little baby knee pads on him, lol.

Remodeling totally gives you a whole new appreciation for modern conveniences–like floors without nails sticking out of them and a kitchen. π

Looks fantastic! Very very smart changes to the family room/ laundry. We have downsized and our whole house renovation starts mid-November. Following along with your improvements is getting me really excited about ours. Thanks for sharing!

Did you recycle any of your cabinets, fixtures or flooring?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yep. We sure did. π

It may not feel fast to you but I am amazed how quickly things are moving along. Are you going to do anything to other rooms, i.e. bedrooms? Or will this monster project be it for a while?
Mavis Butterfield says
I am working on my daughters new room right now {not sure if I am going to blog about that} and will be demoing her bathroom this weekend by ourselves {will be blogging about that}. It’snot over until the whole house is done. Ha!

I hope you stick to your guns about getting the whole house done. My folks started an addition when I was ten and when my Mom sold the house and moved out when I was 47 and there were still boxes of tiles stacked in the hallway waiting to be laid down!!! Don’t know if the new owners actually used them or got their own.
Mavis Butterfield says
Oh wow! Nope, this place will be all done my next summer. Sooner if I can help it. π

Beautiful home!

Thank you! We are excited to be able to make it “our own.”
