If there was an award for the best fig cookie on the planet… Mike’s Pastry in Boston would win hands down. I kept telling The Girl that I wanted to go back for more but she just gave me the stink eye and kept reminding me I was carrying an entire box of sweets to bring to my friend Heather’s house that night. I wonder if they do mail order? Hmmm.
After fueling up on Dunkin’ Donuts tea and coffee we headed back to my friend Heather’s house for dinner.
After a delicious dinner of chicken parmesan we all hung around the table for the next 3 hours talking about everything from cities in New Hampshire, stories from our childhoods and of course… pastries.
The next day, Heather made me go on a 4 mile hike through the woods to walk the dogs {I’m kidding. She didn’t make me go…. I really needed to go to walk off a pastry {or twenty}.
The whole time we were hiking all I could think about were 2 things:
- It feels like we are on an episode of Criminal Minds and when are we going to come across a body hidden in the woods?
- If I exercised this much every day I could eat a lemon tart or a slice of chocolate cake and not have to worry about Muffy the muffin top. But then I’d have to exercise every.single.day. Maybe having Muffy around isn’t such a bad thing. Or maybe I should think about replacing my morning oatmeal with a pastry instead. I mean pastries usually have eggs in them, right?
After the walk… We headed into Boston for the garden show.
I took oodles of photos and I’ll do a proper post about our visit into the big city tomorrow.
Because all I really want to do right now is show you more pictures of the delicious pastries we bought that day. 🙂
Ahhh vacations. They’re the best. Especially when they are filled with good friends and good food. We had a blast on our trip to the east coast and I can’t wait to go back.

When you don’t want to go to the gym anymore, you bring a puppy home.
When you bring the puppy home you realize you’ve grossly underestimated the amount of exercise said puppy will need.
When you take up walking to keep the puppy from eating the house, you realize you like it because you are outside, every day, in all weather, and enjoy the seasons.
When your friends visit who has an addiction to pastries, you still don’t want to go to the gym.
Luckily, the puppy still needs a walk and the friends love the seasons.
