We went to Maxwell’s Farm in Cape Elizabeth the other day to pick strawberries and I am happy to report there was enough strawberries for everyone. They open at 8am but we didn’t get there until 8:32 and I was freaking out!!!
There were so many people out in the field already I was sure there wouldn’t be any left. But there were!!!
I have been wanting to go to a u-pick farm ever since we moved here and I finally got my chance and the strawberries were wonderful.
If we weren’t staying in temporary housing right now I would have probably been there all day picking dozens of flats full of juicy strawberries to squirrel away for the winter.
But we ARE in temporary housing right now and the freezer space at the new place we’re moving to is a wee bit lacking so there will be no ridiculous amounts of strawberries for me this summer!! Boo!
But hey, if you live in Southern Maine or are thinking about visiting in the month of June and are looking for a fun family activity, Maxwell’s Farm in Cape Elizabeth is where the party is happening. 🙂
Hello beautiful!
It took all of 10 minutes to pick 6 quarts of strawberries! The u-pick price this summer at Maxwell’s farm is $4.50 a pound.
Maybe that’s high, or maybe that’s low for your area but I’ll tell you one thing, I am willing to pay big bucks for REAL local strawberries that taste like they have been kissed by the sun.
If you are not in the mood to pick your own berries, this summer they are going for $10.50 a quart!! {There’s about 1 ½ pounds of mounded strawberries in a quart}. They’ve also got biscuits and whipped cream for sale as well. Now that’s what I call one stop shopping.
Summer, it’s finally here. Now all we need is a house to call home and my summer will be complete. Is there a u-pick farm in YOUR area? If so, is it just for berries or are there other wonderful things to pick too?
Have a great day everyone, enjoy the sunshine.

Fresh picked LOCAL in season strawberries are the absolute best! So happy you got to pick some to enjoy! Totally agree with you about the sun kissed taste of the strawberries.

the photo of you holding the strawberries is such a great photo — summer, sun, strawberries, health, radiance, and joy all in one.

We’re headed to Stevenson’s Strawberry Farm in Wayne on Friday to do the same. I can hardly wait. There’s nothing that smells like summer more than strawberry jam simmering on the stove. Mmmmmm.

I agree! Strawberries in the field are the best! Picking your own strawberries is like a field trip and a memory maker and mood lifter that I don’t mind paying more! We’ve taken our grandkids and don’t get much picked but SO Much fun to watch them enjoy the outing and then head back for a relaxing brunch. Here in SW Washington we found a small family farm for $2.50 a lb. Although I could do without the groaning the next morning from all the bending !

Oh goodness – the straw between the rows is amazing! Growing up, all of us kids picked strawberries every summer to earn money for our school clothes. The old school bus would pick us up and drop us off at the field for the day. We crawled on our hands and knees between the rows and would’ve given anything to have straw to sit on! Our hands would get stained so we’d bleach them on Saturday night in an effort to look somewhat presentable for Sunday morning church. Our moms would pack us sack lunches and we’d get a half-size can of soda as a treat. We’d wrap them in aluminum foil in a futile attempt to keep it from getting hot as coffee by noon. And oh, the sweet feeling when we cashed in our punch cards at the end of the season and shopped for those new clothes with our hard-earned money. Oh so much fun to reminisce! It was a sad day when laws were passed and middle-school kids were no longer allowed to pick berries. I imagine those berries are just about as sweet as the memories.

Last Friday I bought two flats of strawberries at a local farm, picked they were $6/qt if you paid cash/check or $6.25 if you paid using a card. I don’t enjoy picking strawberries and didn’t pay attention to that price. I made a couple batches of low-sugar jam and a stashed couple of big bags in the freezer and I’m a happy girl. I might get another flat for more jam though, I’ve eaten a half-pint already (on fresh, crusty bread) and the HH took “a few” jars to work.
The weather is so weird here (Eastern WI) this year, the strawberries will likely sell out before the peas are ready!

Berry season in Oregon is the best! Strawberries are just about over, loganberries and raspberries are in full force, and blueberries will be here soon. And then peaches and pears and apples. I love this time of year!

Our closest U-Pick is in our backyard! Our sweet neighbor gave us a few runners a few years ago, and I let them go wild in a garden bed. Mostly out of laziness. I’m feeling very sad as we get toward the end of the season for our June bearing ones. My little ones, ages 2 and 4, have loved helping pick and eat.
A pint of berries is going for $6-7 at our farmers market here in the Portland, Oregon burbs.

I’ve gone to Bailey’s u-pick in Snohomish twice so far this season. The strawberries are so delicious. I think they are charging $3.75. My husband and I usually buy the organic strawberries at Costco which is about $3.98 per pound right now. The u-pick is a bit cheaper, but not certified organic. But, I’m okay with that as its a local farm and they use clean practices and never put anything on the plants once they fruit.
I love getting the ones that are so ripe they’re almost purple!

Maxwell’s Farm has had pick your own strawberries for 51 years. I started working there for my cousin that first season when I was 12-
One of your photos has a picture of my daughter who also now works there. It is so hard to know that this will be the last year of wonderful memories made on that Oceanside farm ♥️
