I don’t even know what to say.
I have consumed enough food in the last two weeks to nourish the average human being for year? I am so tired of eating that nothing appeals to me anymore? It all tastes the same? I could have hooked a large rug in the amount of time I’ve spent sitting down at restaurant tables in the past two weeks?
All I know is this…. I am putting myself under house arrest for the month of October, JUST SO I CAN RECOVER.
Food. It’s great, until it’s not.

We celebrated The Girl’s “fake” birthday this past week.
When she was 10 years old we cashed in all our frequent flyer miles and booked a two week trip to Europe and had to apply for passports. When we obtained her birth certificate {a requirement for a passport} we realized we had been celebrating her birthday on the WRONG DAY. For 10 YEARS!!!! We had been filling out documents with the wrong date… for 10 YEARS!!!
Who does that?
True, I had a good excuse…. I was hopped up on meds when I gave birth…. but still, wouldn’t you expect the dad, or the grandparents to remember? Geez. What a bunch of losers.
Yada Yada Yada….
For the second year in a row, for her birthday gift, we paid her entry fee for The Boston Marathon {way to go kid!!!}. This year though, we had to celebrate her birthday on her fake birthday because she had decided to run an Ultra Marathon on her real birthday. So instead of a big birthday dinner with party hats and music, this year we ran crew and stood in the woods passing her snacks as she ran by and accepted roasted marshmallows from strange men in the woods who were cooking over a campfire in the middle of the night.
I don’t know how much more random it gets than that.
Life, sometimes it’s feels like you are on one big roller coaster…. and the guy running the controls, is off on his lunch break.
Next week, my life will be back to normal, right?
~Mavis

It was 10 years before I went down to the Administration building to get our official stamped marriage certificate. I thought the paper they gave us at the chapel was our certificate. Who knew!
Crystal says
My name was spelled wrong on my Social Security card and my mom never went to have it changed. I had to go change it myself when I was 18 and went to college, because they put my name on roll call as it was spelled on the SS card, and I got sick of being called “Crystac” instead of “Crystal” – so, you know, I think it is reasonable enough.
Stephanie says
The food all looks fantastic, though! You’re making me hungry…again. Happy fake birthday to your daughter, and good luck to her on her runs!
Suzanne says
I had a student (who was in high school) who found out everyone in her family had been spelling (and therefore pronouncing) her name wrong her whole life. Her mom had spelled it one way on her birth certificate, but then been spelling it different ever since. When they tracked down her birth certificate so she could get her driver’s license is when they found out.

What a week. So un-Mavis like!
If it makes you feel any better you’re not the only bone head in this crowd. My husband and I realized this year that we’d been celebrating our anniversary on the wrong date. You’d think we’d have looked at our wedding album and noticed but nope. 30 years of celebrating on the wrong date.

This is my favorite story ever.
Lynn says
I think it may be more likely that the birth certificate could be in error versus everyone in the family remembering the wrong date of birth. Give your OB/gyn a call and see what date they have in their medical records . . . and the hospital.
sindy says
I agree that the Birth Certificate may in fact be the mistake. I have 5 kids and 3 of the 5 Birth Certificates have an error. It drives me crazy that the clerks can be so careless with their entries. It is a pain in the @$$ to get them changed to. And of course it will cost me another $25.00 each to have new ones printed. Even though it was the states mistake. UGGG!
Debi says
When I was born, my mother named me Debra, but the records all showed Deborah (De bor -a) is how that is pronounced. So before my parents left the hospital, everything got corrected. Thank God for that catch.
Deb says
My mother decided her first daughter would be named Deborah when she was a little girl. She named all of her dolls Deborah and I have one of them still. It’s a lovely name from the Old Testament. It’s pronounced DEB-bor-rah as opposed to Deb-Bra.
Amelia says
Hey, my daughter Vanessa turns 5 in two days. I had to look at her birth certificate right before she turned one because I forgot what day she was born! I have eight kids. This was bound to happen!
Marcia says
ah ha ha ha that is really funny. Wrong birthday.
Which ultra? I have a fascination with ultras. I like reading about them and watching videos about them. I will probably never ever do one. I think. You know, bathroom in the woods is not my thing. Longest I’ve ever done is half marathon.

My sister was so excited to go get her learner’s permit when she turned 15 1/2 (the earliest age you can get one in California). I heard the arguing as she and our mom walked up the driveway upon their return. Turned out we had been celebrating her birthday on September 27 but it is actually on September 29. The DMV told her to come back in two days. That was 1965 and this little sister still wishes her a happy non-birthday every year on September 27.
Gigi says
My grandmother has been celebrating the wrong day for 92 years (because a neighbor gave her welcome home gift as an infant two days after her real birthday). My mom was the one to figure it out when applying for additional benefits. Grandma was 88 at the time. To this day she’ll argue with you on the date. At least you caught it early.

I just had my Drivers license changed this year in February because it bothered my husband that my gender was listed as M (male) it has been like that since I was 15 (I’m 36 now) and it never really bothered me. I have used my “male” drivers license for so much stuff, background checks, and legal purposes and nobody ever questioned. Now the only lie on it is my weight!
Lisa Hebert says
when my husband applied for his first passport we noticed that his birth certificate was off a day. He did call his mom to verify but we had been celebrating the right day. We had to get his Birth certificate amended.
Jennifer says
My son has a mistake on his certificate too, but not an important one. It lists our county as the one next to our real one. I just ignored it. So I’m curious, Mavis, maybe YOU were right for 10 years and the certificate is wrong, so WHAT WILL YOU DO NOW??? I thought it interesting that someone suggested contacting the OB or hospital. If you were indeed right, will you change it back? What a great story for her to tell her future children!!! And thanks for writing such a fun, interesting and entertaining blog! Love it!

I still haven’t changed my name since getting married 6 years ago. I go by my married name and would love to make it official, but the thought of dealing with all the paperwork makes me break out in hives.
In terms of food, I find eating out a lot makes food taste the same. My parents fed us nothing but takeout for years on end, and I got super bored with food–like my taste buds were tone deaf. Even going to different restaurants, a lot of the food or just the options seem similar.
We’re mostly eating freezer meals now, but I cook once or twice a week when I feel like it. Some recent hits include Crock Pot Chinese takeout (beef and broccoli last week, pork lo mein this week). We also made doughnuts the other night (tried a British recipe that was phenomenal). Sheet pan dinners (fajitas, nachos, etc.) are also fun and seem especially good for fall. I’m trying to figure out what I want to do next week–maybe crockpot chicken with potatoes and broccoli. And I need to find an excuse to make more doughnuts…

My daughters birth certicate lists my husband as the father, and then my husband as the mother! Yes, I said that right, it says he’s the mother AND father!! He’s a talented one, that one. She’s 26, and yes, I keep meaning to get it changed, but still haven’t taken it on. How do I prove I’M THE MOM?!? My C-section scar?????
Lauren King says
Oh I hear you on the food front, we are on holiday in Bali and the food has been wonderful but is probably a little richer in butters and oils than I’m used to and I’m feeling it.

My grandpa celebrated his birthday on April 18th and 19th because his birth certificate said he was born on the 18th and his mother said he was born on the 19th. She always said the doctor had been drunk when he arrived to deliver my grandpa at the house….
Torry says
When my husband went to get both children’s Social Security cards, he realized that the year was wrong on our daughter’s birth certificate. He went and had it fixed and she’s never forgiven him for “adding a year to how long it will be until I can get Social Security!”
