A few of the things I’ve been up to the past few days:
- I put on jeans and a bra for the first time in 9 days. š
- I painted and strung a ton of ornaments.
- I have been averaging about 10 hours of sleep a night {that’s a crazy amount for me!}.
I’ve added a new hobby to my ever growing list… flower arranging! Mrs. HB sent me these sunflowers, aren’t they pretty? Sunflowers are such a HAPPY flower, don’t you think? I am looking forward to the weather warming up again so I can plant some in my yard this summer.
My man servant bought a new vacuum. And then proceeded to tell me all about it and even showed off it’s new attachments by vacuuming the upholstered chairs for a solid 5 minutes. He asked it I wanted to give it a try and I told him no, and that I thought vacuuming should be left up to him from now on since he’s so good at it. š
I’ve also been busy hooking, and with a little luck I’ll be listing a bunch of new pillows and some other Valentine’s Day treats in my Etsy shop later today.
And last but not least, the snuggle puggle and I have watched a whopping 12 movies so far this week! Things are going well, and I’m doing all the things I’m supposed to be doing {keeping busy, resting when I need to, moving forward} and for the most part, I think I’m running at about 85%. So that’s pretty darn awesome if you ask me.
Life is good.
~Mavis
P.S. Is anyone doing anything exciting this weekend? More exciting than watching movies and rug hooking? š I’d love to hear about it.
Mrs. C. says
I’m cleaning out the barn and chicken coops.
Good times.
BWA HA HA!
So glad to hear that you are steadily getting better!
Heidi P says
I’m doing the exact same thing! I’ll be thinking of you:) Imagine how good it will feel when its all done!
Julia says
Same thing here but by ābarnā I mean my rabbitry in our basement. Lol. I think it qualifies as a barn since there are hay bales down there. Lol. But yes, the chickens are outside. Well, all but the chicks that hatched a few weeks ago. They are in the kitchen. Mavis, any chicks in Lucyās future?
Paula says
No, nothing more exciting than that! Glad you are feeling better!
RebekahU says
So happy you are making progress!! You have an awesome attitude!
Kim says
Delighted to know this surgery is behind you and that you are gradually adding back in some fun activities. Congrats to HH for being a stupendous nurse, cook, and now…………..all round excellent vacuum operator. It would be selfish of you to snatch away his new tool. Restrain yourself, Mavis.
Praying your progress will be steady and your medication dosage will fall into place soon!
You are a HOOT!!
Meg C says
Restrain yourself, Mavis. BWAHAHAHA!! Kim, I agree with you AND thank you for sharing your thoughts because they made me burst out laughing & itās always so great to laugh!
Mavis, so glad you are taking care to rest & heal.
Carol says
Pajamaland sounds like a pretty nice place to be. Thanks for the laugh about boys and their toys!
Iām running away from home on Saturday. Iāve had enough of house lockdown! Iāll take the dog but leave hubby behind. Iām headed to Cathlamet WA, about an hour and a half away. Iāll take a look at the river and little parks and plan a kayaking / camping trip for when the weather is better. Heck, I might even take the kayak and a change of clothes.
Christie says
Pretty darn awesome is right. I hope you continue to heal and are back to 100% soon! Nothing all that exciting here this weekend. I still have to take down the Christmas tree and the house needs a good cleaning after a busy work week. I am counting the days until the weather warms up and I can go back outside and play.
Christa says
I work outside my home, so rug hooking and movie watching on the weekend is my kind of excitement! Glad youāre improving, you look great
Beth says
Iām glad you are feeling better- keep taking it easier than you normally would. I will be working on homework this weekend because I decided to go back to school last fall even though Iām old!
Since you mentioned the new vacuum I wanted to tell you that one of my friends has been raving about her new Shark robot vacuum. Her husband and triplet teens got it for her for Christmas and she said though she never would have bought it for herself- it Is amazing! I have a German Shepherd so Iām pretty sure that vacuum would run away never to be seen again but your husband might love a robot vacuum.
Gayle Morgan says
I am so glad you are doing so well..my Boyfriend ( who is really my husband) loves our new vacuum too and has taken over those duties..we are both retired and Iām loving his enthusiasm and our cleaner floors..
Jules says
Sounds like you’re doing pretty well! My weekend will be spent in our hazelnut orchard on my knees clipping suckers. I’ll make lists in my head of things to do including which movie I wish I were watching.
Randinin says
weekend plans include choosing paint colors for master bedroom, kid room being converted to HH’s office now that they are off at college, and living room. all woodwork is being painted white.
I am going to search your past posts for the name of the name of the neutral color you’d painted your former walls (in your WA homes).
I also am making a batch of Almond Roca cookies. so easy and so yummy.
Keep healing!

Nadia says
Almond roca cookies sounds delicious. Care to share the recipe?
Donna Jantzer says
We have a funeral this weekend, which could get exciting, you never know. It’s a pioneer funeral where we are digging the hole, lowering the casket, and filling it in ourselves. There will be fires and hot chocolate and no one will be dressed up. There is 2 feet of snow on the ground, and there’s a pandemic. Sound exciting?
Terena says
Subzero temperatures, snow, a pandemic and a funeral: what could go wrong?! It could be the plot for a really interesting Indie movie. From the tone I’m picking up, I think you and I could be besties! Seriously, stay safe.
Melissa W. says
I am so glad to see you are doing well and recovering from your surgery. I have been following you for many years and had not been on your blog since last year. I was sad to hear of your diagnosis but glad to know you have a positive attitude. I will keep you in my prayers for a swift recovery. I am looking forward to your blogs and your new home and garden adventure. You are an inspiration!
Emily B. says
I found a Hello Fresh meal kit at my local discount market for $1.99 – not including protein. I’ve heard from a fair amount of folks how much they like HF so thought this would be a low risk option to try it out. Tomorrow’s lunch will be southwest shepards pie with poblano cheddar mash.
That is my excitement. Go me.
Woooooooooo???
Leanna Thompson says
You’re doing great! My hubby is the one who vacuums in our house. Since it is supposed to be 70 here tomorrow we are planning a drive to a state park with the pup to picnic and hike. Have a great weekend.
Joely says
I love pajama land. I’d live there all the time if I could. My plans for the weekend are to pick some winter greens from the garden, prepare a nice meal for the family and make some lavender and rose soap.
Joan Smith says
Joely would you care to share the recipe for the soaps please?
thank you,
Joan
Joely says
Hi Joan,
I use one pound of soap base, 1 tbsp lavender essential oil, 1 tsp palmarosa oil and 6 drops of purple food coloring. The soap base I use is white low sweat soap. If I use a glycerin soap base I drop the food coloring to 3 drops. You can also make your own cold process soap with pomace olive oil and lye but I only do that outside and wear goggles and gloves for that so as not to get burned from the lye. Handmade cold process soap needs to cure for 6 weeks or so before using. The melt and pour soap bases can be used right away and set up quickly. Happy soap making!

Sounds like you are doing everything right and look great (even in your jammies). Blessings to you and your HH aka: super husband!
Wendy says
What can be more exciting than rug hooking! I hope I can get some hooking done this weekend. I’m so glad to hear you are doing well after your surgery!
Debi says
We are finally going to close out Christmas. Our oldest son tested positive for COVID just before Christmas so we did not get to spend Christmas with him and his sons. Then his wife was exposed at work (she’s an ER nurse) so they went back into quarantine. They are all clear now so we are going to celebrate Christmas on Sunday afternoon. Monday morning we will finally take down our tree and decorations and lights.
MArgery says
I have spring cleaning my room on my list for the weekend figure I can give it two days of my three day weekend, it really needs it.
Kris R says
I love pajama land! You look good and wow have you been busy crafting. Glad to see Miss Lucy. I bet she sticks to you like glue. š I am officially off a long Covid quarantine so I will be bleaching my house all weekend.
Vicki Fetui says
The sunflowers are beautiful. I know Mrs. HB misses you terribly, and you her…
85% sounds WONDERFUL! So glad to hear it. You obviously are doing a good job on your recuperation, just keep up the good work.
Mrs. M. says
It’s a Shark!
We bought our first one many years ago and my HH pretty much took over vacuuming at that point… YES!!!
Then, we bought another one. The first one still worked great but the newer model was the one that keeps hair from wrapping around the beater bar, so we HAD to get it… it was on sale. š
Then, in October, we sold our house and moved into a RV until we get our new house built. So, we gave the new (larger) Shark to my MIL and kept the smaller one for cleaning the smaller RV spaces.
My husband should be a Shark salesman. He tells (or shows) everyone how great they are… anywhere, anytime! š
I love that man!
So glad you’ve got surgery behind you, Mrs. Mavis, and are on the mend!
Jackie says
I love my Shark vacuums too! I don’t think I will ever go with a different brand vacuum cleaner.
Bobbi says
Pajamaland sounds wonderful to me, but I imagine you will soon be stir crazy. Prayers for healing and patience,
Not doing much this weekend. Laying low because of chilly weather, florida weather anyway, lol.
Take care!!
Trish Baker says
So glad to hear that you are doing well. Sunflowers are my favorite but unfortunately they are my catās favorite too. She likes to eat them while Iām sleeping. Iām hooking with a friend this weekend. I havenāt seen her since August. Canāt wait and masks and social distancing will be involved. Have a great weekend!
Lace Faerie says
Like I always told my teenagers, your body heals as you sleep! So stick to that sleep schedule!
Blessings!

While looking for something to watch, be sure to check out the new version of All Creatures Great and Small. You can get it on PBS.org, a new episode very week for, I believe 8 weeks. Set in a British vet clinic before WWII, so lots of animals and Yorkshire scenery. Relaxing and sweet. Hope you feel better every day.
CHANTAL says
I agree with this recommendation. I suggested it to several people and they also enjoyed it tremendously!
Karen says
Happy to hear you are doing so well. This weekend I will be finishing making friends and family holiday masks ( valentine day, St.Patrick day and easter along with some winter patterns). Then getting house, food and clothes ready since next Friday I will be having my left knee replaced. Hoping all goes as good as right which I had 4 months ago. Pray for no snow and ice so I can get out to the car and get to PT starting in February……..that is what I am concerned about!
lynne says
With those cute jammies, i could be in ‘jamaland forever! Glad you are on the mend! Fun and exciting? Cross stitching. Keeps me sane in this crazy world. Walking the dog for fresh air and exercise. Getting together with close friends is the bit of “normal” that we treasure.
Keep rockin’ on, Mrs. Butterfield…you are an inspiration! LynneinMN
Lisa says
So happy to hear you are doing well! Love the sunflowers, they just bring such a smile!
Finishing a quilt extension for my ironing board and one for my sister that my HH made. Working on a quilt and plans to prep a bunch of freezer meals! I was inspired by Melās list! Continued well wishes for your recovery!

My weekend plans:
*make sure I’m ready for students to start back in-person Tuesday
*find the yummiest dessert possible because I’ve deprived myself for 15 days–I’m due!
*COVID vaccine! (Teachers moved up in our state starting yesterday!)
*stitches taken out of foot from removal of suspicious mole–hoping doc says I can start running Tuesday and not have to wait a 3rd week–gahhhhh!
*finish American Dirt–too busy to get very far this week.
*finish sewing masks with the many patterns of fabric that are still lying around the kitchen!

One of your favorite activities is on our agenda this weekend – painting!
Baseboards & window trim in the living room.
Mavis Butterfield says
I LOVE painting baseboards! Have fun. š
Barbara says
Love the photo! Itās the way life should be. I canāt believe your snow is nearly gone. My yard is still covered. I guess after this new storm goes through it will be washed away.
Mavis Butterfield says
I’m still waiting for a big snow storm. I hope we get one up here this year.
Barbara says
Yes, me too. The last 3 winters have been really mild. Nothing like the winters I remember growing up in Boston. This year is almost like still living in Kirkland. One of the reasons we moved from there was because the rain drove me nuts.
Stacey says
I’m glad you’re getting plenty of zzzs. Tomorrow I plan to chill with my husband watching Netflix and maybe go for a walk if the weather isn’t too sloppy. The big plans are for Monday since I’m off work – clean out my closet! I sound more excited than I feel, but it’ll be great to have it done
HollyG says
I had a lovely birthday today decluttering, making beeswax/coconut wood butter and enjoying a great salmon supper at home. I even stopped in and got my birthday drink at Starbucks on the way home from donating the clutter.
After just hanging out at home on Saturday, we’re heading up to Seabeck, WA on Sunday to pick up some Salmon Falls Stoneware I found on FB Marketplace. We found a nice place to stay overnight with a view of the water so Hubby and I are going to order room service (or take out?) and watch movies.
Life is pretty slow these days, but we kind of like a nice, slow life – I just wish it was under better circumstances.
Mavis Butterfield says
I don’t know if it’s still in business, but I remember Seabeck pizza was really good. We went there a few times when we lived in Washington.
Judy says
So glad to hear the mending is going well. Frame of mind has a lot to do with healing, I believe your frame is pretty dandy. As for this weekend, I am watching the Browns football playoff game tomorrow. It has been 18 years since we have been in a playoff game, so it is exciting. Playing Kansas City. Should be a good game. We had quite a few players who had Covid, but are ready to play now. So I will be jumping around the TV room Sunday. Take care and heal fast.
LDA says
Glad to hear you are on the mend. Nothing exciting here, just cleaning, laundry, & maybe sewing some aprons for my great-niece & granddaughter. Although the knitting bug has been calling me lately….
Mavis Butterfield says
I was just thinking about aprons, and how they’d be a good winter project.
Iverna McAnulty says
Exciting + weekend??? First off, what’s a weekend? So far today, I’ve cut off & hemmed 4 little bodysuits for 11 month old grandson. I’ve unloaded & loaded the dishwasher & put a load of laundry in the washer. Ate lunch & did some handspinning while they were running. Clothes need to be hung to dry. Dinner’s planned, meat’s thawing. But I sat down because I’m tired & picked up my current ‘slow stitch’ embroidery project. I keep things quiet, afternoons, because husband usually naps after he gets off work. He’s an artisan bread baker, gets up around 3:30 AM & days off are Sunday & Monday. Maybe I’ll nap, too? The 6 yr old & 11 month old may be here tomorrow. Wait & see.
Linda says
So happy that your doing so well, I watched The Radium Girls on Netflix Last night itās a true story and a sad but good one, I think youāll like it.
