This is a guest post from One Hundred Dollars a Month reader Megan from Michigan.
Hi Mavis!!
First let me say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for their suggestions on the baby shower I hosted last month. It was a great help to me, and I settled on 2 amazingly tasty and easy soups. If fact they went over so well that I was asked for the recipes! I chose to make the Copycat Panera Tomato soup because I could easily adjust it to be vegetarian. And the Chicken Taco soup (clearly not vegetarian!!) ha.
The mom to be knew my plan to freeze any extras for her, but… it all got eaten. Good problem to have!!! No worries though, I made another batch for her and froze them in small single serving Ziplock bags.
Also a tip for everyone – I found all my printed material templates such as invites, thank you cards, games and posters on Esty!! Way easier for me to just print out the amount I needed.
The day began calm as planned!
Then quickly turned into a mad rush to decorate as a lot of people arrived super early! Which worked out fine, I just had to tell myself to roll with it!
As you can see the food was hit! Homemade soup and bread… with a big salad with all kinds of toppings to make it your own!!! Sadly I couldn’t get a picture of the food table until after the crowd went through it!
I did however get a picture of the cupcakes……..which were so cute!
In the end it was a wonderful shower, the mom to be got some great gifts for the baby (mostly hand made gifts – how great are these folks!!), and the wonderful ladies who attended all won some prizes, and left with a thank you cookie!
My sister and I, (with my future nephew!)

Got something super amazing you want to share?
If you would like to have your garden, chicken coop, pantry or something you’ve made featured on One Hundred Dollars a Month, here’s what I’m looking for:
- Your Garden Pictures and Tips – I’d especially like to see your garden set ups, growing areas, and projects from start to finish.
- Your Pantry Pics – Submit at least 5 HIGH QUALITY pictures of your pantry/fridge/cabinets, and tell us about you and your food habits.
- Your Chicken and Chicken Related Stories – Coops, Chicks, Hen’s, Roosters, Eggs, you name it. If it clucks, send us some pictures and your story to share with the world.
- Cool Arts & Crafts – Made from your very own hands with detailed {and well photographed} pictures and instructions.
- Your pictures and stories about your pets. The more pictures and details the better.
- Garage Sale, Thrift Store and Dumpster Diving pictures and the stories behind the treasures you found including how much you paid for them.
You’ll need to send in a Minimum of 5 HIGH QUALITY pictures and the stories to go along with those pictures. Please do not send in a couple of grainy photos and a sentence about them. I can’t post that. It doesn’t make for an interesting or informative story.
If I feature your pictures and the stories behind them on One Hundred Dollars a Month, I will send you a $20.00 gift card to Amazon.com. You can send your submissions to me at onehundreddollarsamonth @ gmail.com {spaces removed}and be sure and put Mavis Mail in the subject line. Thank you. I’m looking forward to your submissions. Please note: I will only share well written posts with quality photos.

How sweet is this! Congratulations on a great day and a new nephew! I have to say I am SO over sandwich trays (especially the ones that don’t fit in the fridge!) and who doesn’t like soup, salad, and bread?

What a fun party, Megan, you are the BEST! The food looks great, especially the cup cakes, so cute! How did you make them? Great decorations and gifts; love the party room, too!
Karen, who almost moved to the Thumb

Thanks Karen! I’m not to far from the Thumb…..closer to the Bay! The cupcakes were done by a good friend who has a small cake business. I gave her the invitation and told her she had total creative freedom….this is what she made. I just love them!

What a lovely shower you hosted, Megan.
I grew up in Mt. Pleasant (right in the middle of the mitten!) but now live in Minnesota!
I love those cupcakes.
Congratulations on your (soon-to-be?) nephew!

What a great looking party! The food sounded amazing and the fact that you weren’t able to get a before picture of the food means everyone loved it too. The cupcakes though, how adorable. Loved your post, needed a happy story like this today.
