Hello Monday!
It was a bit of a mixed bag last week in the meal department, partly because I was finishing up the task of getting all my rug hooking patterns and wool dyed for the summer season and partly because we were both sick.
Some days I felt like making something to eat, and other days it was eating squirrel food {nuts and dried fruit}. We’re still not feeling 100%, but at least now I feel like we are on the mend and my days are not consumed with all things wool.
With all my major rug hooking projects behind me for the summer season {the making of kits, patterns and dyeing wool} I’m looking forward to trying some new recipes. Mainly, the pear tart from the Standard Baking Company book I bought this winter. 😉
Trader Joe’s $20.21
The HH did all the grocery shopping last week {clearly, because there were cheese puffs!} and said that Trader Joe’s looked like a floral shop with all the spring flowers out on display.
The mini daffodils are just starting to bloom in our yard so it won’t be too long until the tulips fill the front fence with color, and then the peonies and then the hydrangeas.
I LOVE spring! And I especially like working outside during April and May before it gets too hot outside {70 degrees is about my limit}.
Here’s a look at most of the meals we ate last week:
Big salads.
Pickety bits.
Chicken meatballs {from the freezer}.
Chicken soup. Lots of chicken soup!
And weenies cooked on the AGA simmering plate. Have I shown you how the simmering plate {and liner} work? I think it’s my favorite feature on the AGA.
Ahh Monday. I’m glad you’re here.
Have a great day everyone,
~Mavis

Hope this week is a much better one for you both! Spring is even starting to show up in our neck of the woods…slowly, but surely. I have to look hard to find snow now–just the remnant of a snowbank left here and there. It looks like a lovely next few days. It seems so nice to have warm sunshine after months and months of winter.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes it does! I love winter, but I am very much looking forward to the sunny days ahead.

I picked some lettuce (red leaf lettuce, kale, romaine) from my garden last week and made a nice salad. I pulled a couple of meatballs out of the freezer last night and I am eating them today with a bowl of spaghetti. This past weekend I made myself some pickety bits (thanks for the idea!) – guacamole on crackers, colby jack cheese, carrots with veggie dip and a big dill pickle. Love it when the meals are simple!
Mavis Butterfield says
Rosemary, are you growing in your greenhouse this year?
Rosemary says
No. I have a raised planter (in the garden) with all 3 varieties of lettuce. I planted it all at the beginning of March. Living in Florida does have its perks!
The greenhouse is still being used without the roof. We added a fenced in garden and attached it to the greenhouse and removed one wall so that it is all one big space. The other 3 walls act as a “fence” to keep the animals out. Everything has been planted and so far, all is well.

Didn’t know you could cook directly on the AGA plates. Do tell us about that one. Feel better soon!
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks Sue. 🙂

I’m so sorry you have both been sick! I hope you feel better soon!
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks Judi. 🙂

Hope you heal quickly! I am glad I am not the only one putting a garden in. I live in Central Wisconsin, and I work out of raised beds. The weather has been so much warmer than normal, I decided to start my garden early.
It was another week of eating out of the freezer for us. Spring and fall are my worst times of year, pain-wise, with all the storms coming through it just makes me hurt more. Last week, we had Chicken Satay over cauli-rice, Sheet pan Jambalaya, Lasagna with salad, and we ordered pizza. The remaining nights it was leftovers (and one night i didn’t eat, it was a migraine day).
This week it’s Chicken Enchiladas, Burgers and fries, Chicken-apple sausage with broccoli, and Grilled ham and cheese sandwiches.
