I had first heard about Momo’s Cheesecake’s this past January through an online article I read describing how a woman in Ellsworth, Maine was selling cheesecake 24 hours a day, 7 days a week out of her unlocked garage.
At first I was like what!? But then I just chalked it up to this is Maine, and things are done a little differently here and it’s all about small businesses and people trusting you to do the right thing.
It’s a pretty old school idea, paying cash and buying from your neighbors instead of the big box stores and it’s pretty darn RAD if you ask me. It cuts out the middle man, puts more money in the pockets of the people actually doing the work and in doing so, helps communities thrive.
Here’s a few photos I took of Momo’s Cheesecake shop while the HH and I stopped by on our most recent date day.
Essentially, there are 3 coolers filled with cheesecake. Two coolers are filled with slices {$6 each} and the other cooler is for the full sized cheesecakes {you can choose between single flavors and variety cakes}.
There were SO MANY choices, I didn’t know what to pick, but finally decided on a slice of plain cheesecake and a slice of pumpkin. Both were outstanding!
Grab as many slices as you want, toss your money in the red box, and you’re good to go.
Maine. The way life should be.
Don’t you wish you lived here? 🙂
Have a great day everyone,
~Mavis

Yes, I wish I lived there 🙂 The places you describe are the quiet pace are right up my alley.

I used your list to visit a number of places when we were in Maine in September. Not traveling now, but eagerly awaiting new installments of local favorites. Already plotting a post-vaccine return trip. Look like you may have moved further away from Dunne’s? For me, that would be a good move-if I lived anywhere near Dunne’s I would weight 500 pounds. I just got a newsletter from Congdon’s. Very cute.

Now I am craving cheesecake after seeing all of those pictures. I was planning having a pumpkin swirl one on ginger snap crust for Thanksgiving. I can hardly wait.

Gingersnap makes the best crust! 🙂

I’m curious what the post it notes were about….I was hoping you’d mention it in the post.
Kim says
Me too! I kept thinking the picture would be explained. Maybe it’s notes like, “hey Momo, the cherry was awesome and can you do a blueberry next week?”
Melanie says
I want to know too!!! I was wishing it would say!

They are just happy little notes… We love your cheesecake, we are from XYZ, yada yada yada. 🙂

If we all lived there, the experience wouldn’t be the same as Mavis’. She is very lucky we don’t all live there! Enjoy where you live and what you have. Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh Boy! I wish the orders were open! We live in Canada but when things settle down I think we need to take a road trip

It’s beyond charming. But after such a stressful year, with people not even wearing masks, my faith in ‘self-serve’ payment is pretty low right now.

Hi Mavis,
Unrelated to your post… although the pies look delicious… your mug -where did you get it? I remember you mentioning it a while back (from Etsy?). But the “Etsy mug” search is returning too many results. Please do tell again.

I have attempted to duplicate Momo’s cheesecakes but there is no comparison. Hers are exceptional and priced fairly. It’s such a treat to indulge!
