The Handsome Husband was off from work last week.
We spent our days gardening, playing with chickens, skipping rocks in the lake, and singing kumbaya.*
In between all the singing and dancing we made two trips to Costco to buy their hot dog and soda deal. What is it with men and the hot dog and soda deal?
Am I the only one who thinks Costco weenies are gross?
They totally smell awful, but the HH and Monkey Boy sure like them. Blech.
I’m happy smiling at the old ladies in hair-nets and thanking them for their free samples.
Costco $16.38
I usually don’t grab a cart when I go into Costco because I’m always afraid I’ll fill it with a bunch of things I don’t need. But this time around I grabbed a cart knowing I’d have a hard time balancing a 25 pound sack of flour and an enormous tub of Crisco all the way to the check stand. I walked in, got what I needed, and checkout out. Easy peasy. Okay, so maybe I did stop to look at a new set of pots and pans. But I didn’t buy them. Yay!
Albertsons $5.18
As of this morning, we are officially out of milk.
I didn’t bother with Albertsons doublers this week. I didn’t need any free tissue or carefree, and a couple of containers of yogurt just wasn’t worth getting out of bed for. Some weeks are crazy good, and others not so much.
Beecher’s Cheese Shop $10.05
After picking up our tickets at the Benaroya Hall will call, we had about 40 minutes before we had to be in our seats to hear The Barefoot Contessa {Ina Garten} speak. So The Girl and I headed over to the Pike Place Market to snap a few pictures. We saw a huge line forming out the door for Beecher’s Cheese shop and decided hey, why not, and decided to hop in line and wait 10 minutes for the best mac and cheese on the planet.
Obviously I went totally overboard this week, but it was worth it. After all, a girls got to have her Crisco and macaroni and cheese.
How did YOU do this week?
Did you go over or under your budget?

The kumbaya was a giveaway 🙂

I completely fell for it. Even the kumbaya – I figured that was probably the kids. Mine like to sing songs like that, not because they think they are great but because they know I twitch and squirm when they do!

My husband also doesn’t garden, like my chickens and is kinda afraid of dairy goats…however I sometimes catch him taking apples to the one special chicken…then he denys it…

Mavis what you have left for the year, I have left for the month. You are just amazing I must say! I walked in to albertsons with my doublers and walked out with the Herbal essence shampoo and ALL my doublers… the deals just weren’t there.

Albertson’s is the store that is the farthest from home. I only go if i think I might do well- rarely!!
QFC has been my choice of stores the last 2 weeks! I have done well with the Buy 10 Get $ 5 off INSTANTLY along with the $10 catalina on the same products.

The Tillamook deal at Albies this week is decent. If you need cheese.

I actually made it UNDER my budget this week…which included $1.10 OOP after using $25 total checks of Similac formula (found great deal of clrx items at ToysRUs while picking up online order for $2.90/bottle). I bought bulk cocoa powder gearing up for the holiday baking season and we picked more free blackberries which I have froze for later too. I wasn’t inspired by the doubles either, but did manage to buy the ice cream using that $.75/1 coupon which brought them both down to $0.76 which I can’t buy cream at that price to make that amount of ice cream so I felt that was a good deal! I also shopped the toilet paper deal only because we were down to the last rolls in all the bathrooms where the ones actually on the roll…cutting it close! LOL! I like your Crisco and flour purchase…those and white sugar are on my list next! I was wondering…what is your stock up price on white sugar? I saw at Albs that they have their brand for about .70/lb if you buy it in the larger bag…wonder how that compares to Costco?
Mavis says
Costco sells sugar for $.59 per pound. Sometimes during baking season you can score the 4 pound bags for $.99 each. Hopefully we will see some deals like that again this year. 🙂

The Mrs. Sycamore bread was 2.59. They had $1.00 peelie coupons on them. Double them and they are .59 a loaf.
Also Sarah Lee Hearty and Delicious bread had peelies on it. Think after doublers, it was
around .89 a loaf.

Costco food court hot dogs…yuck but it must be a man thing. Mine goes for that deal too! He thinks he is getting a bargain.

Milk at Costco is cheaper. Here on the east coast it is only 2.39 a gallon. Since you were there anyways…
