This past week was a really busy one in the garden, but I still managed to find a few grocery deals. My appetite for grocery shopping has totally taken a back seat lately and I don’t really mind one bit. It’s nice not to have to spend a lot of my time scouring ads and looking for deals when I can just stock up on what we really need instead of chasing the deals every single day of the week like I used to. Change is good. Here is what I picked up this past week.
Tacoma Boys – $2.99 Tacoma Boys still has Fugi apples on sale for $.60 a pound, so if you are driving by Tacoma anytime soon be sure and stop by and grab a few {or a case}.
Oroweat Bread Outlet Store – $5 Monkey Boy and I ran errands last week and stopped by the Oroweat Bakery Outlet in Tacoma. We stocked up on wheat bread and bagels for $1 a loaf/bag. If you’ve never been to a bread outlet before, you should give it a try as they are a great way to save a little dough.
QFC – $6.79 Monkey Boy was with me when I stopped to buy milk. I picked up a half gallon of local milk for The Girl and I and a gallon of store brand milk for the boy.
Bartering with Mrs. Hillbilly Mrs. HB called on Saturday morning looking for exactly 3 hot dog buns and she brought my poor deprived children some Granola Thins for their lunches as a trade.
Amazon – FREE A while back I redeemed some Swagbucks for Amazon gift cards and went ahead and ordered some Kashi Crackers and diced tomatoes with the gift cards. I didn’t can enough tomatoes last summer so this year I’mm need to up the anty {I’m thinking about 100 pints at least to get us though a whole year}.
Frieda’s Specialty Produce – FREE So far I’ve made Roasted Purple Sweet Potato Wedges with Rosemary and Thyme, and I’m looking forward to trying some new polenta recipes. I’ve never cooked polenta before so I’m not sure what I’m going to make with it yet. But check back a little later today and you’ll see what I made with those yummy new potatoes.
Albertsons – FREE I know there was a ton of deals to be had at Albertsons with double coupons on Sunday, but I really wasn’t interested in a lot of it. I was however able to pick up free tortillas, free Kikkoman soy sauce and free Arrowhead Mills cereal though with the following coupons though. Save $1.00 off La Victoria Tortillas Save $1.00 off Kikkoman Soy Sauce Save $1.00 off Arrowhead Mills Cereal
Home Grown Lettuce – FREE We harvested out first batch of homegrown lettuce last week!
Mr. Produce Guy – FREE Apples, pears, grapes and celery were all FREE last week thanks to Mr. Produce Guy and our reclaimed food boxes.
How did YOU do this week? Did you go crazy at Albertsons, find any awesome deals somewhere else, or stay home because of snow? Mavis wants to know.
Total Spent This Week $14.78
Total Spent This Year $386.56
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $195.79 {I bought a Meyer Lemon Tree, Rhubarb crowns, and 6 Fruit Trees}

How do you get some many swag points to redeem for amazon? Is it from your subscribers or another trick?
I’ve also noticed a decline on my couponing trips in the recent months and I’m totally okay with it as well.

Kimberly,
I do swagbucks it takes a while but everyday do the poll, check for surveys, noso, search, tv it adds up.

We have 2 swagbucks accts and made about $30 from them but there is a lot of energy that is needed to generate any swag bucks. Our Mavis seems to get a good amount often, I want to learn her trick.

I used to use the search bar all the time, but now I just use Swagbucks when I purchase things like groupons or living social deals online or when I shop online if I’m not going through ebates. In the past I have done the surveys, watched the videos {do they still do that?} and a few other things. I really don’t get many gift cards anymore because I’m really not into as much as I once was.

It is interesting to see how our shopping habits change as time goes by. I have really slimmed down on the number of stores I shop at regularly (usually just Albies, Safeway, and Rite Aid). I also now have a hobby that gets me up and out of the house on Sundays, so I try to have my coupons and lists all together and do all my grocery shopping in one big swoop on Sundays. Not that it totally stops the running around to different stores and end of the week last minute deal pickups, but it makes a HUGE difference in the amount of time I am spending overall. Mondays I pick up my reclaimed produce and then I am set for the week.
This week spent just $7, really was just a couponing freebie week. 2 Campbell’s skillet sauces w/ $3 off steak, 2 Mt. Olive roasted red peppers, 2 Soy sauce, 6 cat treats, 3 Hallmark cards, 3 Frosting creations packets, 2 Edge shaving cream, and 2 munchkin baby products (for baby shower gifts).

My favorite way to do polenta is to slice it into about 1/4″ thick slices, spray a cookie sheet, lay out the polenta, spray the top of the polenta, and then bake for 20 minutes or so at about 400 degrees. Flip halfway through, and in the last 5 minutes or so, I top each piece with a slice of cheese. Quick and easy 🙂

Mavis, I know you make pesto so you might try this with the polenta, my kids are about the same age as yours and they really like this (plus it is easy to make)

I didn’t have any cream, so used nonfat milk (about 3/4 c instead of the 1 cup of cream) and it turned out fine. I don’t use the tube type polenta, I use the instant kind so you may not need to add anything it maybe alright to cut and use that way.

With 3 teenaged girls in the house and myself, I was pleased to be able to purchase Playtex Sport or Gentle Glide (brand that my daughters prefer) on sale at Albertsons for $3.99, use $1/1 MQ, a Twice Value, and get a $1 catalina for every two…making them $1.49 each. With others using their Twice the Value coupons to get free deals, I was happy enough to stock up on this product, at this price, with plenty of stock on the shelf.

I’m the only girl in my house and was still very excited about this deal. I wasn’t too excited about any of the deals this time around, so I was glad to find this!

I found $1 off peelies on the mission tortillas. They were 2 for 3 in our store. So double the coupon and they are free. Also planters trail mix was 2 for 4, so double the $1 coupon in a smartsource from a couple of weeks ago and they were free. Little Debbie snacks were free with the .75 cent coupon also.
