I traded in my Swagbucks credit and for an Amazon gift card and bought Decaffeinated Twinings Tea, Chinese Five Spice and Backyard Winter Gardening by Caleb Warnock. Since I just got the book I haven’t read it yet but the pictures are gorgeous!

I had a wee bit of Vitacost credit so I placed an order for a few essentials like Bob’s Red Mill Pancake Mix, Baking Cocoa, plus got a few goodies for the kids like Nutella for the Girl and Chips for Monkey Boy.
Wilco Feed Store – $25
I still can’t believe what a great deal this was. I was able to pick up 24 pounds of pears for my kids sports team {I am snack mom and I get reimbursed so I’m not including it in my total}, 20 pounds of peppers and 25 pounds of onions.
The Girl and I spent yesterday chopping and freezing all the peppers and the onions went to the pantry to use over the winter months. I love stocking up on produce!
Mr. Produce Guy – FREE
Last week we were able to reclaim a good variety of free produce thanks to Mr. Produce Guy. I’ll be sharing what I did with all those bananas later this week.
Even though I went way over budget this past week, I feel like I stocked up on some pretty great deals so I’m okay with it. After all, our eating habits have changed significantly over the past year or two.

Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $919.96{I bought a Meyer Lemon Tree, Rhubarb crowns, 6 Fruit Trees , 16 yards of soil}, Walla Walla Onions and 90 pounds of seed potatoes. Plus, supplies to make my own potting soil. I also picked up a boatload of heirloom tomato plants at the Seattle Tilth sale.

You may be over budget on the year but you folks eat a mountain of fresh produce at very respectable pricing including all the produce you grow yourselves! I was green with envy when I saw your Wilco produce score! I had no idea they had produce but I have passed the info on to some of my American friends. I would love to take advantage of that kind of pricing, but as I can’t haul it over the border to Canada if it’s got a seed or a pit, I just look on admiringly!

I did wilco too! But I used mine to can salsa. I ended up with 38 quarts. I think it should last us for the year. It seams to simply vanish in this house.

Just in case you have any peppers left, or for someone else who might be interested, here’s an easy way to peel and preserve them so you can use them as part of an antipasto platter, or on pizzas, in pasta, sandwiches, whatever …..
Roast peppers in a hot oven until they blister. Remove from oven and place in a freezer bag until they are cool enough to handle. Meanwhile, boil equal parts of white vinegar and white sugar (1/2 cup for 4 peppers). Peel the peppers and cut them into strips, or leave them in larger pieces if you like. Place in containers and pour syrup over. Refrigerate and enjoy!

Ridleys in Middleton ran Western Family 2# brown sugar and 2# powdered sugar for .50, limit 12. I hadn’t seen it at that price for at least 10 years. I went early Sat. morning and they had a little brown sugar but no powdered sugar. So I got 12 bags and several ads. On the way home I remembered Walmart price matches, so i headed there and got the 2# sacks of their house brand for .50. Then i got a 25# box of honey crisp apples for $5 that had a blemish or bruise on them. Locally grown and not waxed.

Safeway has 4 lb. C&H sugar coupon in their ad (through today) for $1.99 There is a .50/1 Mfr. coupon in the 9/8 inserts with a Double = .99 Limit 4

Please take photos…of your freezer, canned jams, pantry…I cannot imagine where you keep all of this stuff! I cannot imagine all of the jams, frozen casseroles, frozen fruits & veggies…do you have a basement or another home to store all of this stuff?

A few weeks ago I went to the farmer’s market a couple of weeks ago. Apples were 50 and 75 cents a pound-not waxed. Some were amazingly tart so I got those and some golden delicious. I canned and froze 40 pints of apple sauce, plus jam and pie filling. Couldn’t pass up a great deal as the kids love apple sauce. I must have looked like a wacko with all those apples and the kids in the wagon.
