How does that song go? Oops, I did it again? Holy crackers people, forget taking away my Costco card, take away my car, and shoes because we all know you can just go up to customer service and tell them you lost your Costco card and get a temporary pass for the day.
Clearly taking the Costco card out of my wallet was not a deterrent was it?
I think I’m getting lazy. Seriously, it’s just too easy to go one stop shopping at Costco this time of year. All those free samples, shiny things to look at, I can’t stop. Can. Not. Stop.
Hot deal of the week was yogurt on clearance for $0.25 each and day old cinnamon rolls for $0.99. I also picked up a package of Bob’s Red Mill Oat Bran. I wanted to try it out before I ordered the 4-pack from Amazon. The verdict? I like it! And hold your horses, it was 28% of your daily fiber requirement and something like 7 grams of protein in one serving.
What can I say, I need to find something better to do with my time than hang out at the grocery store during the week.I’d take up knitting, but then I’d just spend all my money at the craft store. So you see, I really can’t win, can I? All I can do is hope spring will come early this year so I’ll be too busy outside to go shopping.
A girl can dream, right?
How did you do this week?
Are you spending more on food lately too? What’s your excuse?

Seriously–if you only blew your budget by that much–you are doing good, girlfriend. I’m already prepping to slash our family’ food costs this new year. I’m counting on you to keep me inspired!
BTW–asked at my local store about ‘chicken food’. Turns out they donate it to a local animal sanctuary, and that is wonderful. So, I now hve my sights on a local produce stand, to see what they do if they have any leftover produce.

In spite of going over for the year, you are still my hero- holy cow I think I still spend more in 4 months than you do for the entire year! In my defense, I do buy lots of groceries for my 27 year old son, his 3 dogs, and his roommates- and yes there is a blinking sign above my head that says “Sucker”! I know what you mean about Costco- I went last week for dog treats for my dog and $85 later, I was out the door and somehow the Ghiradelli brownie mix had jumped into my cart as well as some fiber bars and nutrigrain bars and a roasted chicken for dinner….what the heck- Costco must put us in a trance when we walk in the door and next thing you know, we have things like brownie mix in our carts…
You have done great this year and I still bring your blog up daily with my friends and family….Happy Holidays and thank you for being you!

Mavis, you have a full family to feed and I bow to your methods of shopping. I have really cleaned up my grocery spending, but still find times when I blow the budget. This past Friday I really scored and it felt good. We have a new Meijers grocery store in our area (NW Indiana) that I’m learning how to use their electronic coupons along with their store sales. I saved over $30 dollars on items I was going to buy anyway. That felt great! Thanks for ALL your posts!!!!

Carol, there is a website that can help you with your Meijer shopping. savingaddiction.com matches sales with coupons, Mperks and other deals for Meijer and other stores.

I am spending more lately b/c food prices have definitely gone up, and during the holidays (November and December) I am not as “thrifty” as usual 🙂

I didn’t do too much in the grocery department last week. But I did barter with my sister and scored some flour, home canned tomatoes, english muffins and some ground meats (beef and elk ). What did she get in return? I babysat her dog.
I win. 😉

You DO win !!! 🙂

You might want to add in as “lunch money save” if you eat a lot of samples at Costco while you are shopping…go around a few times and it adds up! My sone and I sued to do that all the time…!
