I wish there was a button you could push once a day {maybe on your arm} for exercise. And then maybe another one that made a chicken Cobb salad {exactly like the one from The Cheesecake Factory} everyday a noon so you wouldn’t have to think about what to eat. It would just appear at the table. And then another button you could push to recharge yourself, but you could actually choose to still be awake and get work done while your body rested.
T’was another week of eating mostly uninspiring food {except for those donuts!} and eating more than I normally do. Maybe this week I’ll try and eat less sweets. Then again, maybe I’ll make a giant chocolate cake.
I miss long drives up the coast, exploring new towns, bakeries and general stores. But… I am looking forward to green grass, homegrown lettuce, sun kissed tomatoes and summer afternoons in the cool basement painting pottery. Life, it goes in phases. Sometimes it’s just a little more exciting than others.
Monday. Let’s do this!

If you are looking for an island with a library, general store and a post office (also a one room school house and a tiny church) check out Monhegan Island, Maine!!! There is daily boat service (but no cars) from May to October. The rest of the year, the ferry is a few times a week—folks who live there full time (25-50 people) do need to get in shore sometimes for doctors’ appointments. It has great hiking trails and magnificent views from the headlands. I think you would love it!

It’s on my list for this summer. 🙂

Oh my goodness! Split pea soup! Glad I snagged a bag of them a month or so ago! I’m going to make some in the slow cooker today!! Was able to go to Lowes to get my poles for my bean plants on Saturday and a few other gardening supplies. Weather is getting warmer here in E. WA yay! I lived near Kennebunkport 20 years ago, I miss Maine!

I haven’t had as much time to cook lately since working from home and sewing masks takes so much time, but we did discover some new recipes this week, including Frijoles Borrachos and shrimp tacos with cilantro lime slaw. I’ve been impressed with how my definition of a pantry meal has changed through this. Tonight, we’re having butternut squash lasagna, and pot beans, garden turkey meatloaf, and maybe copycat Shake Shack burgers.
Mel says
Those last 4 recipes are obviously for later in the week.

Would LOVE to try your Frijoles Borrachos recipe Mel. Either here or via email. 🙂

Sure thing! I’d never heard of them, but I found stumbled on them on this site: https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/drunken-beans-recipe-frijoles-borrachos/
I served them over rice one night and as a side with tacos the next, and they were amazing both ways. We only had light beer, but it worked great. (If you like beer, you’ll like this, but it’s also so mild that I think even a beer-hater would like it.) I used cranberry beans instead of pinto since I was out, and I used less so that there’d be a bit more broth to go over the rice. I had frozen diced jalapeno from our CSA, but I think you could use a tiny bit of cayenne instead. I also think the cilantro was nice but not truly necessary. The lime definitely kicks it up and is delicious, but it could also probably be skipped. It will definitely be in our meal rotation.

ahundreddollarsamonth.com needs a new name..I keep checking in but its usually just showing what you bought for crazy high prices- $2.00 a donut? what happened to the Mavis who shared her gardens, great meal deals/grocery shopping etc. You can certainly write and post what you want on your blog and you do have an audience but why not change the name..have a vote among your followers but as it is, it is a bit misleading. I am not bashing the blog, really.
