Hello Monday!
The forecast for today is a high of 92 {!!} so it might be ice cream for dinner around here tonight {again} but hey, what are you going to do, right? Ice cream is a totally acceptable meal in my book, especially when it’s so hot outside.
Food wise, it was a great week, with lot’s of variety. I made a pie, used up two containers of chicken chili I had in the freezer, the HH got his pasta {with Rao’s sauce of course} and I made a few big salads. What more could you ask for?
We didn’t buy any groceries this past week, but thanks to our pantry in the basement, we didn’t have too. Later in the week the temps are supposed to drop down to the upper 70’s low 80’s so I am going to try and use up a few more of the frozen {mostly soup} dinners I have stashed in the freezer to make room for wild Maine blueberries.
We’ll probably be eating dinner down in the basement this week so I can clear out the frozen soup. 😉 I found a place up north that sells wild Maine organic blueberries in bulk and since I am a BIG FAN of blueberry pie, I need to make some room in our tiny freezer so I’ll have enough berries to get us through the winter.

I thought I would eat SO much ice cream this summer, but a nasty infection put a stop to that—currently avoiding as much sugar as possible since it feeds infection. Probably (definitely) good for me though. I’ve been eating a big salad as a meal nearly every single day for 3 weeks! Also other cold salads—tuna macaroni, Greek/Mediterranean quinoa, beet..watermelon, etc.

Hi Mavis – love your adventures. I googled the GNOME LADY for a Gnome for my great boss. Unfortunately she doesn’t ship. ANd in these times there is no way I will leave my house for a journey/adventure to Maine. Ah well. Let us know when you go back.

I fb’d her also; got same results. Dang, I really wanted two of her tree spirits. No adventures to Maine for me either just now.

Blueberry pie for lunch and ice cream for dinner?? Sign me up. It’s not really that hot here right now.

Hi Mavis, everything always looks so yummy! I looked for a recipe for blueberry pie on your blog, but couldn’t find it. Are you keeping it a secret from us?

When it’s this hot (even in Vermont) it’s salad, salad, salad… every night.

It’s hot back here in Ohio, too, and our house is not air conditioned. I do a little cooking or baking in the EARLY morning, chores in the later morning, and afternoons have us seeking air conditioned places to “hang out”, like the gym, the library or a store. I have begun poaching fish (mostly salmon pieces) to top salads for our evening meals. We also enjoy cold soups for lunch or supper. I admit I have been guilty of following your lead and eating cold leftover pie for breakfast. You are such a “bad” influence! So share that Blueberry Pie recipe, PLEASE!

Love your meal plans! Especially the days where there’s no vegetable in sight!

It is HOT in Boise so we are grilling and having salads, bread from our favorite bakery, and fruit from the fruit/veggie stand near our house. Yesterday I went to Costco and and got 2 roasted chickens, romaine lettuce and grapes so I think we will be having lots of salad this week. I do plan to stop by our favorite BBQ joint and pick up 2 pounds of their pulled pork because my daughter is picky but she will eat that for 2 meals per day with veggies and fruit…it’s all about simple meals that don’t heat up the kitchen right now…

For heat avoidance I try to only use the oven after 10 pm. I also start tomorrow’s dinner in the crockpot that time of night and turn it off in the morning. Then I spend my morning break getting it into the fridge, then reheat on the stove or eat it cold for dinner.
