Chicken eggs $4, whole wheat bread $6 and dill flavored cheese $6.
Apple pie $7 {it was half off} granola $3 and the cookies were $3 also.
2nd trip to the local farmstand $15
Duck eggs $3, apple cider $7 and $5 {I grabbed one for The Girl to take home with her when she comes to visit}. I’m on a mission to try everything that even looks remotely interesting. I feel like it’s my civic duty or something. Plus, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but this seems to be the year to go crazy on food. 😉
Whether it’s stocking your pantry, supporting your local restaurants and bakeries so they’ll still be in business when all this is over with, or going out of your way to spend your dollars locally somehow. It all matters. Even if sometimes you don’t think it does… trust me, every little bit counts.
General Store $7.50
The HH is in love with the sandwiches from our little general store. Apparently they have hot lunch specials too {just like the place we visited on Islesboro earlier this year} so I have a feeling he’ll be coming home with one of those pretty soon. Weeeeee!
For those of you that don’t know, general stores up in these parts are typically run out of old houses {and it’s not uncommon for the houses to be 150 – 200 years old, so they’re on the small side} and they all come with their own bit of rustic charm to them. We absolutely love places like this and are more than happy to spend our pesos there.
Here are most of the meals we ate last week:
Tuna casserole… I am SO READY to hunker down and make my fair share of casseroles this winter!
The HH made his famous meatballs.
And I made pickety bits. One of the combinations was a little interesting than the other. 😉
Good food, a new place to shop… it was a good week!
How about YOU? What have you been eating lately? Any interesting meals?
Have a wonderful Monday everyone,
~Mavis

I haven’t had an interesting meal all year! I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder earlier this year that was likely causing the severe stomach issues I had that meant I could only eat applesauce for about a month and needed my gallbladder out. Things improved slightly in that I was able to then eat chicken breast, fish, potatoes, rice and green beans. Then I lost fish. Then I lost potatoes. For months all I ate was chicken breast, rice and green beans and my only seasoning was salt. I’m up to about 10 foods now after having 3 days of not being able to eat at all at the end of July. I’m hoping to be able to continue to add more foods as time goes on but even with the 10 I can eat now I wouldn’t say any of it is interesting!

Athena, BEST WISHES to you on your recovery and I hope you will be able to find a larger variety of foods to eat. I don’t have this problem, but we all have some kind of situation to deal with. You have been so strong working thru this health issue. I had my gall bladder out and can’t eat everything, but have no stomach issues. I hope you are getting help from those who know the situation. Keep us posted!

Athena, I sent you a reply but I guess it got lost in cyberspace. Wishing you all the best for a good recovery.

Everything looks so good! I agree with you about staying local when possible. My husband and I are trying to do the same. Small bakeries and general stores/markets need support at times like this.

Mavis, I think you may have overlooked your calling as a large salad stylist! 😉 Your meals are always so pretty!

Man! I’d fix salads a lot more if mine looked like yours. Yummy.
