Hello Monday!
We’re off to a good start. I woke up early, drew out some patterns and now I’m off to the kitchen to bake a pie. Life is good! π Well, except for that leg lamp, it’s blocking my view of the snow.
General Store $27.43
While our little general store may not sell lint rollers, they do sell 1 1/2% milk, brie cheese and Morse’s sauerkraut so all is well in my little world. Plus, they know you by name there, and sell individual dog biscuits at the register. What’s not to love about a place like that?
Shield’s weenies and chips.
Big salad with capicola.
Big salad with bacon.
Chicken salad with brown mustard, relish, apples and pepper.
Eat a giant baked potato for lunch and you won’t need dinner!
And while you’ve got the oven on, throw a few more spuds in there so the next day you can have your husband make a pot of loaded baked potato soup.
Beans and rice rice and beans.
The last of the butternut squash ravioli from Costco served on a try with a slice of Texas Toast.
And last but not least, pickety bits for the win. π
What did you eat this week? Anything exciting? Do tell.
Have a good one,
~Mavis
P.S. Giveaways 4-6 will be posted this Wed-Fri so stay tuned! π

Mississippi pot roast made with Italian dressing instead of ranch. (Wacky I know!) With lots of sautΓ©ed mushrooms, onions, and red peppers for the top. Then drove some to my friends house so we could have dinner “together”
Cookie baking season- nuff said.

I made 8 kinds of Christmas cookies and some spiced pecans this weekend to mail out. That was really too many kinds, but I’m close to cracking a copycat Thin Mints recipe, so there’s that. Also, I learned that pretzel pieces are a fantastic addition to chocolate chip or M&M cookies.
Dinners haven’t been too exciting around here since work is winding down for the semester, and I’m busy with that. A couple nights of takeout, one night of cereal, and then some vegetarian meals with lots of salad to balance all that. I need to thaw some chicken to grill this week and maybe break out one of our Thanksgiving leftovers pot pies.

Great idea to add pretzels to chocolate chip cookies, I’m going to try it. Thanks Mel!

Go for it! I originally got the idea from this Southern Living Recipe, which was good but perhaps just a bit much (I also had to reduce the cooking time and put them on stacked cookie sheets to prevent burning). But the basic chocolate-pretzel combo was a real winner, and I think it would work with any basic chocolate chip cookie..

I was just looking at your year to date total so far. It has gone up a lot compared to previous years. Will you be doing any financial $100 dollar a month type challenges this coming up year? Interesting to see how things change from year to year!

The link to your “beans and rice rice and beans” recipe doesn’t take you to the recipe. Will you take a peak at it? It looks like Madras Lentils you get in the little pouch that are so tasty yet so pricy.
Mavis Butterfield says
I fixed the link. And yes, they taste just like those and they’re fantastic! This recipe is a much cheaper alternative.

Dinners last week were dinners that were so graciously delivered to my family. We have Covid-19 and the fatigue is crazy! Thankfully pulling out of it now.

Get well soon Tammy and Co.!

Hey Mavis, I always admire your meals. They always look delicious! I notice in this post your hard boiled egg yolks have that dreaded green ring. Donβt know who cooked them you or the HH, but they are over cooked. Try cooking them a little less and put them immediately in cold water with ice cubes to stop them from cooking. Will look and taste a whole lot better.
Lissa says
The leg lamp really is rather ghastly :). Especially with it blocking the beautiful view.
I put room temp eggs in a single layer in a pot and cover with water. Bring water to a boil. Cover with lid, remove from heat and set timer for 12 minutes. No green ring and the yolks are much more tender. Eggs (especially scrambled should be cooked gently on medium heat so they aren’t rubbery).
