There was a lot of home cooked goodness this week, even with the kitchen a mess. The week started off with a bunch of leftover pickety bits from the Super Bowl, and leftover pot roast that was turned into a delicious soup.
And then there was ALL THAT PIE that we picked up on Thursday and have been chipping {okay, shoveling} away at since then. As of 7 am Monday morning, we are down to 2 slices. 😉
I pulled some Copy Cat Panera Creamy Tomato Soup from my freezer meal stash and had it with toast.
And some not so crispy Ritz Cracker Chicken and vegetables {the HH cooked them on the same pan and so the buttery Ritz coating didn’t get as crispy as it usually does}.
There was a double date.
And Christmas jam on toast with scrambled eggs and hosin sauce.
The HH made a pork roast in the oven {because he said he didn’t want to look like a weirdo smoking meat in the backyard while it was snowing}.
And the next night I made Saturday Night Beans with the leftover pot roast.
Followed by a Sunday dinner of fried egg on toast with a side of beans…
I think we may have hit all the major food groups this past week {except candy}. I also think we ate like a bunch of little piggies and might need a little detox this week. 😉
Food, it’s really good until you find yourself moaning and walking around rubbing your belly and yelling I ATE TOO MUCH… WHY DO I ALWAYS EAT TOO MUCH? And then you try and comfort/reason with yourself and ask well how many chances am I going to get to eat two pies in 5 days again? And it all makes sense.
Monday. Bring it on! I hope you have a great day,
~Mavis

I guess living in Canada we don’t have many options when it comes to smoking meat in the snow! lol Most years it snows from the end of Oct-mid Nov thru to mid March so if you want any smoked meat that doesn’t come from the deli you have to do what you have to do! Smoked pork shoulders for pulled pork with Carolina sauce for Super Bowl pretty much every year for the last 29 years!

Here in New England we barbecue and use the smoker all year long! Us New Englanders we are weird like that! Ya gotta do whatcha gotta do. Tell the HH he will fit right in when he is smoking meat in the snow.

Yesterday it was snowing in the Chicago suburbs. I asked the hubby to fire up the smoker and he happily obliged. We smoked 2 meatloaves (highly recommend) and a couple of bricks of cream cheese. Your HH is going to become “that guy” in the neighborhood and then the other husbands are going to start drifting over every time 🙂

I think it’s super cool to use your smoker in the snowy winter-gives the feeling of really being a homesteader!!!! And you don’t have to stand over it like a barbecue grill-just pop the meat in & let the smoker do it’s thing!!!!
