Market Basket $56.84 + a cucumber that didn’t make it into the photo. π
Hannaford $60.95
The Girl was home and wanted pickety bits for dinner… and so we set off to buy supplies. Pork butts were on sale for $0.99 a pound so we grabbed a few of those too.
Hannaford $46.79
And then I was in the mood for big salad so I went back again and grabbed a few more wedges of cheese and more pork butts for the freezer. And then I walked past the Easter candy and couldn’t resist. π

It was a good week with lots of variety. But after that big salad, I am REALLY looking forward to late spring and summer salads again. The quality of produce in the stores this time of year pales in comparison to what can be grown in your own backyard. You just can’t beat the flavor. And for that reason, even though I LOVE winter, I am truly excited about getting my vegetable garden up and running this year.
Have a great Monday everyone,
~Mavis

Now I am hungry and no time to eat!
Suzanne Shaw says
Further proof that I eat way too much, and it’s no darn wonder I’m so chubby!!!
Susie Janov says
Now you have us wondering how you made your chili!
Debra Perry says
The presentation for your pickety bits is gorgeous!
Mable says
You must have the metabolism of a hummingbird! I would be as big as a barn if I ate all those carbs, no matter how much I exercised. Wonderful pickety bits presentation.
Kathy Alderfer says
Seeing your store bought eggs made me think about your chickens…do you miss them?? Is there any chance you can have them at your new home?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes we miss them and I think we’ll wait to get them again until we know for sure where we will be. I wish there was someone {within walking distance} that sold eggs. There is a local CSA, but I haven’t ventured over there yet but it’s on my list. π
Mary3M says
Does that comment ‘until we know where we will be’ mean you are looking to move again?
Margaret Hudgins says
I’m wondering the same thing. I just wish I could afford to move the Maine sea coast area. I’d never move again.
Brynn Fogerty says
No way! The best blue cheese, and actually it just won a world award is Rogue Valley Creamery’s Rogue River Blue Cheese, made right here in Medford Oregon!! It is delicious and reasonably priced, a must try.
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ll have to look for it. Thanks Brynn. π
Margaret Hudgins says
OMG! My fave salad dressing ever is my home made blue cheese. All this talk of blue cheese has me needing to make it, and it’s “legal” on Keto, which I’m starting tomorrow a.m.

I love big salads. Lucky to live in California, and BOY is it lettuce season. I get 2 produce boxes a week and yesterday I had 4.5 heads of lettuce. I think I’m down to 3.5 heads of lettuce.

Pork butts…a visual I so did not need while eating dinner;-)

I am always so inspired by your shopping. I love having a pickety bits or big salad dinner, and I am also a black licorice fan.
I would like to discourage people from buying almond milk — use oat milk, soy milk, hemp milk, rice milk…. As a beekeeper and a Californian, I see firsthand what happens when the almond trees are in bloom. They use a ton of (much needed) water in a semi-drought state, and so many bees are shipped to CA to pollinate the almond trees that it actually puts our entire national population of bees at risk. Our thirst for almond milk far exceeds what is good for the land or the bees who we count on to pollinate everything else. If a virus hit at the almond crop one year, affecting the bees, we would lose 90% of our bee population. And it’s all for almond milk. Please reconsider drinking a product so hard on the environment and bee population. Thank you! (You can make oat or rice milk at home.)
Linda says
Mavis, can you tell us again how you make your cuppa? I know you went through it before. Thanks, Linda
