Ever since moving to Mid-Coast Maine, we’ve been meaning to check out Moody’s Diner in Waldoboro because so many people have recommended the diner over the past year. And so when my in-laws were in town last week we decided to go to Moody’s for breakfast.
“Moody’s founders, Percy and Bertha Moody, started it all when they opened three small cabins on the top of the hill, charging $1 a night. They then opened a small Tea Room {now known as Aunt Letta’s House} to serve dinner to their guests and those traveling up and down Maine’s coast.
The following year a lunch wagon was opened and later moved down the hill when Route 1 was re-routed in 1934. That same lunch wagon was expanded many, many times to become the Diner that we now know today.
The Diner is still owned and operated by the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Percy and Bertha. And, a good two dozen of them are still involved or employed at the Diner today.”
And oh my, I’m so glad we went to Moody’s!
French toast, eggs and bacon. Who wouldn’t want to eat that for breakfast?
They even keep their syrup in a squeezy bottle {genius idea!} Seriously, who needs to live near a Cracker Barrel when you’ve got Moody’s Diner nearby?
During the summer months, they serve anywhere from 900- 1500 people and bake between 50-60 pies a day. {WOW!} Now that’s what I call a hopping place!
Blueberry pie ala mode. With fruit and dairy, it totally counts as a breakfast item, don’t you think? Yes, yes it does.
There’s even a small gift shop around the side of the diner.
I can’t believe it took us so long to check it out and we’re already looking forward to going back. I think next time though, we’ll go for dinner on either a Sunday {roasted turkey} or a Thursday {NE boiled dinner} so we can try one of their dinner specials.
Moody’s Diner. Just another reason to visit the great state of Maine. 🙂

We have Granny’s Kitchen here and it is just a tiny hole in the wall place where every one is friendly and the food is awesome. Down the road is Lyman Café and the other direction is the Dutch Plate. All great breakfasts and all local. Cracker Barrel cannot compete!

Actually had breakfast at the Miss Lyndonville diner this week for the first time in 18 months! Poached eggs, hash and a grilled corn muffin!

Don’t skip lunch at Moody’s—their Cod Reuben Sandwich is amazing. Plenty of non-seafood sandwiches for you too. We used to stay in their old fashioned camp cabins up the hill and just wander down the driveway when we got hungry. A little harder going back up after a big meal!

So glad you finally went to Moodys. Good you waited until after Labor Day since they’re very crowded before that. Now you can call yourself a resident.

We love Moody’s and have been going there for years. I also recommend you try the A1 Diner in Gardiner and if in southern Maine the Maine Diner in Wells.
