If you are looking for a light and bright summer cottage rental on Mount Desert Island, Maine with plenty of room to stretch out for your entire family, boy do I have the place for you. As luck would have it, I was invited to stay in this gorgeous home last weekend by a longtime OHAM reader.
Needing a break from all the kitchen remodeling going on at my own house, I gladly said YES and called my buddy Heather to see if you wanted to come along. All I had to say was Mount Desert Island and she blurted out yes! π That Heather, she’s pretty much up for anything, especially if it involves getting out of the house and eating pastries.
I just want to start this house tour by saying… If I were going to build a house at this stage in my life, I would not only choose this EXACT floor plan, I would have also chosen EVERY design element in this home as well. Every cabinet, every counter top, every light fixture, every stick of furniture, every book on the shelf.
It’s funny, sometimes you walk into a house and you’re like… HOLY CRACKERS… this is my house. This is the house I want to buy. Can I please buy this house and ALL it’s contents? I’ll even take the teapot on the stove. Just please, where do I sign?
White cabinets, black quartz counters, stainless steel appliances. I was in love.
Oh, and the view? How about your own private strip of sandy beach in the back yard and a floating dock to launch your kayaks? Yep. I’ll take that too.
Seriously. Talk about an easy breezy light and bright family room. Isn’t it dreamy? Don’t you just want to show up with a suitcase and move in? The wall color in the room was so calming. The palest of blue. I would have never picked that color in a million years, but here in this home, it’s absolutely perfect.
The house was filled with all sorts of rainy day boredom busters for little ones. DVD’s, puzzles and games and oodles of books.
I especially liked that the majority of the books were Maine related seeing how the home was a vacation rental.
Birds of Maine. I’ll have to get that book for The Girl.
In addition to three full sized bedrooms, the house had a flex room. I LOVED this room. {And as soon as I got home I ordered the rug that was on the floor.}
The view from the flex room. Wowza.
Do grey weathered shingles make anyone else go weak in the knees?
The black cased windows, light fixtures and back patio were all spot on.
A fenced backyard and play set for the kiddos.
The downstairs twin bedroom.
With it’s giant closet. {All the bedrooms had big closets!}
The upstairs bedroom where I stayed.
I loved the rug in this room too! π And the simplicity of the bedding and white dresser.
The upstairs bathroom. Just look at those quartz counters!!!
If I was building a house today I would pick this exact same quartz for my counter tops.
AND THE SHOWER!!! Gaaa. I was gobsmacked. The color combination was beautiful, and those pebbles felt so nice of the bottom of my feet. I wasn’t kidding you when I said I would have picked out all the same things if I was building a new house right now. Everything was so well thought out and absolutely perfect!
The room Heather stayed in.
{This room, like the other one on the top floor had an enormous double closet as well.}
I loved this little nightstand so much I ordered the same ones for our bedroom.
Not a bad place to rest your head.
The view from the upstairs bedroom. Not too shabby if you ask me. π π π
This house. It was an absolute dream. Everything about it was so lovely and I know it will make the perfect spot for a summer getaway for anyone that chooses to stay here.Β Maine. It’s just SO AWESOME.
Have a wonderful day everyone,
~Mavis

Beautiful house!! Is there any white in that rug? I’ve been looking for one with navy, turquoise and white.

I can see why you liked it, it reminds me of your house that you’re currently in. It looks just like where you’re headed in your renovations. It’s very pretty and timeless.

I’d love to know where the blue coach in the flex room is from.
Also, I’ve never heard of a flex room. Is it like an extra room?

Everything about that home is beautiful. Thank you for sharing!

Interesting that they leave the dock out in the winter. Here in MN if we left the dock out it would be crumpled up on the shoreline by springtime! Sometimes the shoreline is gone because of the ice.

That is a beautiful home! Lots of ideas for “regular”living but what I like the most is NO clutter. Guess that makes everything else stand out. Thanks for sharing!
