Mrs. Hillbilly asked me if she could write a blog post once a week as a way to help keep her accountable on her road to lose 36 pounds this year. I said yes, because I feel she needs YOUR encouragement {and she’s tired of listening to my ideas}. I will be featuring her blog posts each Thursday during the month of January, and then tagging them on to my Goals for 2020 posts after that so we can all keep up with her.
- Starting Weight: 186 pounds
- Current weight: 185 pounds
- Starting Belly Button Circumference 41 inches
- Current Belly Button Circumference 39.5 inches
I must have hit a plateau. But I feel great and know it will start coming off again. Slow and steady that’s what I want anyway, right? I promised I would let you in on my goal setting for the year. You may notice I took a few from Ms. Mavis. They are as follows:
- Lose 36 pounds through intermittent fasting.
- Exercise 5 out of 7 days at least 30 mins {got recumbent bike and riding}.
- Learn how to can (Have supplies).
- Read 10 pleasure books (with foot injury this will be a breeze. Have already read 4 and am on 5th).
- Start budget …again (need to start this ASAP).
- Plant a garden for what we use.
- Host a “southern comfort” party this Summer.
- Find a hobby for hands and make money on it.(I think I may know what I want to do.)
- Get 4,975 phone photos down to 1,500. (already down to 3,431)
- Have 6 date nights with Hillbilly Hubby without our children (This will be hard to get him to do)
There you go. I won’t be posting much about all these unless it pertains to my weight loss. After all that is what this is about. So how did this week go? IF(intermittent fasting) is working even if I am stalled. I am surprised still about this. Surprised how much better I feel. How much MORE energy I have and how less bloated I feel.
The first several weeks was all about the fast. I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted for my meals. I thought easing into it would make it easier. Next week I will start to focus more on WHAT I am eating, when I do eat. Less carbs for sure. But not totally throwing them out. Like I said before, I love sushi so rice will always be in my diet but far less of it. Less pasta, less white potatoes, hardly any bread. This will be the hardest for me.
Did you know that when you hear your stomach growling it doesn’t mean you are hungry or should eat? Your stomach is always making these sounds but when your stomach is empty you can hear them, like an echo chamber. How interesting is that? When I hear those sounds now I remember that and when I do have a hunger pain I envision the “pain” eating my fat cells.
Fasting has also made me appreciate what I am eating a bit more. For dinner after an all-day fast, I made a Weight Watchers recipe of tossed roasted corn, onions, bell peppers, fresh basil, a little olive oil and salt and pepper. Roasted sweet
potatoes and pan “fried” chicken thighs (used a little olive oil)… It was sooooo delicious! And I appreciated it so much more.
In case you are curious about things I ate this week: No breakfasts.
- Wednesday: More sushi for lunch then Chicken thighs, WW roasted corn stuff and sweet potatoes for dinner.
- Thursday: Fast for lunch, then homemade fiesta chicken salad with Bolthouse dressing and a lot of salsa.
- Friday: Fiesta chicken salad at Red Robin with HB boy after a Dr. appointment, dressing on the side then Ham, veggie and bean soup.
- Saturday: Leftover chick thighs, WW corn stuff and ½ sweet potato. Dinner Southwest salad from Blooming Onion.
- Sunday: Leftover chicken curry, corn and beans. Dinner Chicken Marsala, peas and 1-piece NAAN bread
- Monday: Wok teriyaki chicken salad and for dinner beef tacos
- Tuesday: Fast then dinner baked chicken stuffed with cheese and relleno peppers, baked potato and wedge salad.
Thanks everyone for the support!!! I think this may be the easiest “diet” I have
ever been on.

Aren’t corn, and sweet potatoes carbs? You do seem to be doing good. I am 5’4” and used to weigh 97 lbs. I fasted until the last meal of the day every day. I was way too thin. I finally gained, but it took menopause and an under-active thyroid. I wish you only good luck. You seem to be on a good start. Keep up the good work. One thing, drink a lot of water. If you don’t like plain water, put some cucumber, or lemon or any fruit or vegetable you like in the water. I like it that way, but also like plain water.

I think you are right Deborah. We eat low carb because my husband has juvenile diabetes so no corn, beans, potatoes of any kind, bread, rice, pasta, cereals, ect. I do eat carbs but dh eats none. I would be as big as a house if it weren’t for me trying to eat like he does.
Mrs HB says
Yes but I was trying to get rid of stuff from frig . Should be better going forth . Thanks for the reminder !

You’re doing great Mrs. HB – keep up the good work! I’ve joined along with you on this IF journey and love it. I’m trying to eat low-carb but not go nuts about it. I’m really trying to watch my sugars tho being pre-diabetic and all. WinCo has a monkfruit sweetener in their bulk area that’s quite good. I drink water, black coffee (reg & decaf) and lots of jasmine green tea. The scale says I’ve lost 8# and my Jeans are looser. I wish I’d measured myself… but I didn’t. So far it hasn’t been difficult at all – cooking hubby’s breakfast tho has my tummy wanting some too Lol! I hope your foot is better soon!

Keep at it! Slow and steady. I need to lose 50 pounds, so I’m feeling your pain! The hardest habit for me to break is evening grazing.
Annette says
I brush my teeth and floss right after supper. That keeps me from evening snacks because I am too lazy to brush and floss again.
Mavis Butterfield says
I do this too! 🙂
Mrs HB says
Me too !

You’re doing great! The corn might be the reason for the stall. Corn is high on the glycemic index; after all, farmers and ranchers feed corn to fatten up animals. Maybe swap the corn for some green beans, steamed spinach, broccoli, etc.

So glad you are sharing this! It makes my meal planning much easier. I like to cook but what meals to eat are always my hardest part of the day. I tried IF in december but I noticed after a couple weeks I stopped losing too. Then when you wrote about it I thought “Yes, let’s do WW with it”. So here I am right with ya. I have been doing YouTube videos for exercise and there are several seated ones that are great, grow young fitness, frankie vale… with post surgery these can burn up the fat really well too. Good luck and keep on inspiring us with your story!

I re-read the weight. It appears you have lost one pound in this time. ??? Or, is that a typo? Good luck on the weight loss.
Mrs HB says
Typo sorry
Natalie says
Corn is really high in sugar which may affect the weight loss. Beans are carbs but healthy ones.

Hi Mrs. H, I’ve lost 30 lbs since August by cutting out carbs. Try using Carb Manager, it is a free App. I type in what I’m planning on eating for the day and I try to stay under 30 gms of carbs. Not only have I lost weight but I don’t take as many pills daily for my arthritis. Good luck and take care.

I like to visualize those hunger sounds as PacMan type people eating the fat cells.
Mrs HB says
Love it !

Mrs. HB, YOU ARE DOING GREAT! I am down 41 lbs since July. My advice, bulk up you meals by deceasing rice, corn, potatoes, pasta by replacing w lg amounts of zucchini, broccoli, brussel sprouts, riced cauliflower (great substitute for reg rice), bok choy, etc. I still need a filling meal and adding these vegetables add bulk and aid in digestion. Salads add bulk, too. Stay hydrated. The fiber in these offset the glycemic response.
On days when I eat too much starch/sugar I will add 2 lbs water weight. Carbs attract water to metabolize. You will lose that water easily and continue to lose weight. So glad you are feeling great!!! I want to start a youtube channel to document and encourage others.

Did you know when you order sushi you can ask for lite rice meaning use less rice to make them?? Sushi is the only time I eat rice. And I avoid bread, pasta and potato 99.9% of the time. I lost 150 and have kept off 2 years now.
Virginia says
Wow, Janet! Just had to chime in and give you a virtual high five … that is impressive! You should be so proud of yourself.
