It was an insanely good week in the grocery department! I only spent $10.59 at the stores and made a boatload of delicious meals in the new cooker.
For all of those who asked… YES! You can cook a turkey in an AGA. {I’ll give you all the details tomorrow.}
A full on turkey dinner in the middle of February. AWESOME. And there were plenty of leftovers as well {my favorite part}.
Turkey bacon and avocado sandwiches. Yes please!
And there was turkey soup.. With plenty of leftovers to go into the freezer for a night when I don’t feel like cooking.
Broccoli salad with bacon and cashews.
And a batch of the best chocolate chip cookies on the planet. Cookies baked in an AGA oven {with all that surround heat} come out nice and chewy.
I also made a cherry crisp with the cherry pie filling my Mother sent in my Christmas gift box.
And have been enjoying the leftovers in my morning oatmeal. Because seriously… Who doesn’t like a little fruit in their oats?
We also made a chicken stir fry. I say we because I started cooking the chicken and then the HH walked by and told me I was doing it wrong and so I said here, you finish it. 🙂
Secretly I think he just wanted to try cooking on the boiling plate.
I popped the extras into the freezer.
I also froze the rest of the peppers we bought last week.
Big purchases of the week: $4.69 for 1 gallon of my favorite Oakhurst Milk.
And also, 10 Organic Meyer Lemons from Rising Tide Co-Op for $5.90.
It was a good week, with lots of tasty dishes.
How did YOU do? Did you make anything exciting? Curious minds want to know.

Wow! Everything looks so good! Not much cooking going on at our house; our four-legged princess had cataract surgery about 10 days ago and we’re all about eye drops, oral meds, and keeping that protective head cone in place! But having her be able to see again is so worth it! Still, that beautiful bird of yours got me to thinking–there’s a turkey in my freezer…..hmmm. And putting a dollop of cherry crisp in your morning oatmeal–genius!

Glad she is recovering nicely. Those cones are not fun.

Turkey Tettrazini made with the last vacuum packed turkey in the freezer from our free T-day bird, freshly sliced mushrooms. YUM! https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/turkey-tetrazzini/?utm_campaign=yummly&utm_medium=yummly&utm_source=yummly
Split Pea Soup loaded with carrots, celery and ham. I simmered the T-day ham bone for hours and hours for a lovely broth base.
I made your Barley salad and used my garden canned salsa instead of winter (ick) tomato and spices.
Happy Monday 🙂

My good dish this week was breaded veal scalopini with lemon butter sauce and capers served with mashed potato’s and broccoli My HH loves veal and he really wanted the breaded version. I didn’t have any Panko Bread Crumbs that the recipe called for but I had Whole foods bag of herb bread stuffing so I threw it in the blender for 30 seconds and it was perfect and had a little crunch to it and I didn’t have to add any seasoning, I will use this before Panko again it really was a fabulous substitute.

I did manage to cook a couple of nice meals this week. One night was BBQ Bourbon pork chops with baked potatoes, last night we had sticky soy pork meatloaves with potato slices and roasted broccoli. We were freezer eating the rest of the week, manacotti, crustless pizza, chicken bacon ranch casserole, and a roast I had put in the crockpot with Italian dressing seasoning and beef stock. Mmmmm. I find when I make the freezer meals, we tend to eat less because it’s already set up in 2 servings, but if I am cooking fresh, there seems to be 3-4 servings and we tend to eat more. Do you have this problem?

Looks amazing!! Do you have any tips for reheating frozen rice? I always have some left but it usually goes to the pooch
Tanya says
I e found that you have to refrigerate it first to cook it down before popping in the freezer. Like pretty much everything the texture will be much better when reheated. Then I just pop it in the microwave loosely covered to reheat before mixing it with whatever it is getting served with.
Tanya says
Sorry about the typos! It’s early! That should say cool it down!
Jennifer says
Thank you!!! I will try this
