My goals for 2017
Get 7- 8 Hours of Sleep Each Night
Mission accomplished! I decided to give myself the day off from posting deals and sleep in today {this being Mother’s Day and all}. Well, that and because I am currently in a totally different time zone and didn’t want to wake up at 1 am to look for deals. 😉
Make Saving a Priority, Not an Idea
This month we were able to pay an additional 5 principal payments towards our mortgage.
Live a little
I got a sweet deal on a last minute ticket to Hawaii so I could surprise my mom for Mother’s day! 🙂 My parents were already there on vacation and well, you know, life is short. I texted my mom right before take off and told her I’d be there in 6 hours. I also mentioned I’d need to borrow some pj bottoms, toothpaste, sunscreen and maybe a few q-tips {I needed the space for my rug hooking supplies after all}.
And yes, that is all I packed. 🙂 🙂 🙂 Little known fact about me: I only own 1 decent short sleeved t-shirt. But hey, it’s Hawaii right? I’ll just wash it and set it outside to dry overnight.
Life. It’s really not that complicated.
Visit 52 REAL Bakeries
Blackbird Bakery on Bainbridge Island… YOU MUST GO THERE!
Have 1 “no spend” week each month
Eh… It’s looking like it’s going to be the last week of the month.
Start a Line of Rug Hooking Patterns
I am now up to 8 rug hooking patterns! And I’ve even added a bunch of hand dyed wool. Yee-Haw!
Turn My Wool Stash into $2,500.
I sold $313.38 worth of goodies in my Etsy and Ebay shops last week. That brings my total to $4072.83 for the year so far. I think that’s pretty good for something I do in my spare time. It’s funny, some people have hobbies that cost money, others have ones that pay for themselves, but I feel lucky to have found something that makes a little bit of extra.
There was a whole lot of planting going on this past week. I shared some pictures over on Dig for Your Dinner this morning if you want to take a peek.
Purge 250 Items Including Selling Larger Items We No Longer Feel We Need
So far I have purged 109 items this year.
Learn to Crochet Mission Accomplished
Kari sent me this photo of a totally tubular crocheted tank top she spotted at her local thrift store. Isn’t it lovely? Maybe I should reconsider crocheting after all. 😉
Dote on My Husband Even More Than I Do Now.
I would think the HH considers having the weekend all to himself a luxury. So that counts as doting, right?
Lose the Muffin Top. {again}
Seriously, if you just replace your morning oatmeal for a slice of pie from the bakery… you’ll totally be fine. 😉 Everything in moderation, right? Then again, dinner out every night with my parents is totally a different story.
Wear out {most of} the clothing I already own.
Everyday people, everyday.
Try 52 New Recipes
I’m hoping to try out a new biscotti recipe this week.
Read 52 Books
I downloaded 2 books to my Hoopla account to listen to on the plane ride: The Reluctant Midwife and Here’s the Story. I LOVE biographies so of course I listened to Here’s the Story first… and  I really liked it. I’ll listen to The Reluctant Midwife on the trip home.

Ha! Based on the photo, I have a good guess where you are! I miss Hawaii! Mavis, you really need to check out prices in the grocery store. You will faint.
Mavis Butterfield says
The grocery store is on my list! So is Costco, I want to know how the prices compare.
Mrs. C. says
Pretty good, actually. One reason that it is VERY popular. The snack sections are HUGE, and there are all sorts if things offered that are Hawaii-specific, like miso butterfish.
Andrea says
Hi! I was wondering how you find last minute deals on flights! Just curious, how much did you pay for your flight? Thanks! Happy Mother’s Day to you and your mom!
Diane says
Yes, I would also like to know how you find last minute deals! Have great fun. Happy Mother’s day to you and your Mom.
Mavis Butterfield says
I think I’ll write up a special post about this. 🙂

I would like to know how you snagged your ticket too! We seem to have fallen out of the game now. Best snag I landed was a trip to Cozumel for 2, all inclusive for a week! Only extra expense was for a few dive trips offshore! We used air miles and it was a “preopening” of a hotel venue. Yes, it was to try out all of the amenities, chefs, housekeeping staff but who cares? They were ready! Has anyone else fallen into such a deal? Are hotel employees around the world the only ones who have access to these deals now? Oh my, what a great memory…

Mavis, u make me so jealous! I work for $9.50 an hour and it sucks! I do like my job , but there is no way to pay extra on house payment or principal and certainly no extra for trips! But I’m so happy for u!! I did do a no buying groceries for a whole week and just squeaked through as I work at a grocery store!! We ate fresh fruit as I bought ahead and out of the freezer!
Did u like the Reluctant Midwife? I downloaded it to my phone and read it!! It was so good!
Mavis Butterfield says
Earlene, I’m glad you like your job! I think a big part of getting through any job is liking the people you work with it. We are were fortunate to be able to make extra payments, and I really do like doing the no spend weeks… I feel like I learn something new every time. I haven’t listened to the Reluctant Midwife yet, but I plan to on the plane trip back. I’m glad you liked it though, hopefully I will to. Have a wonderful day. Hugs!

Just curious……..what’s the makeup brush for? I don’t see anything to go with it, and don’t think you wear makeup. Have fun, don’t get burned.
Mavis Butterfield says
Bronzer.

“Life is short” — you hit the nail on the head, and the photo of you and your parents is priceless. Glad you could make the trip happen — what a good daughter you are! Wish my parents were still around — I miss them every day. Have fun soaking up the sun!
