My 14 Goals for 2020
Goal #1 – Take Full Advantage of Having My Husband Home 24/7
This past week my resident handyman washed all our windows… and boy did they need it. He also discovered that the glass on the storm windows moves up and down and apparently last winter the glass was up {screens down} and so we missed out on a layer of insulation. Oops. We are still learning about how to live here! Ha.
Goal #2 – Take Better Care of Myself.
Miss Puggle Love and I had to take a few days off from walking the beach because the tide wasn’t in our favor. Lucy likes to walk the beach at low tide to hunt for baby crabs and seaweed and since dogs are only allowed on the beach in the mornings, we have to be a be selective about the times we can go. This week will be a good one for treasure hunts though.
Goal #3 – Get Organized
The list of this weeks projects are already on the door! The HH’s projects are on the left, mine on the right and joint projects down the center. It’s a good system. 🙂 Finish a project… peel off a sticky. It’s that simple.
Goal #4 – Get Proper Window Coverings on All Our Windows.
Taking a break on this project to enjoy the summer scenery, but will put it up again in the fall. This is the tutorial I used in case anyone is interested.
Goal #5 – Master Bedroom Make Over {almost done!}
This past week I finally painted those shutter doors! And holy canolies people, what a difference a little bit of white paint makes! I kept it old school and used a 1″ paint brush and they turned out fantastic! I am SO GLAD to finally have that project off my list.
Still left to do:
Paint Writing Desk a Glossy BlackFinish the 2nd closetPaint the Creamy Closet Doors White- Refinish the Floors
Goal #6 – Kitchen Update
Light and bright. Just the way I like it.
Goal #7 – Install Vegetable Garden Done!
Currently harvesting: Basil, chives, blueberries, tomatoes, cucumbers and jalapenos!
I have a feeling a tomato salad will be on the menu tonight.
Goal #8 – Explore More of Maine
Last week we found a new ice cream stand. We are still on the hunt for the best pizza in Southern Maine. If you know of a place, please let us know in the comment section below.
Goal #9 – Host Some Sort of Get Together Done!
Does having a yard sale count? Yes, I think it does. 😉
Goal #10 – Read/Listen to 12 Books
Last night I watched Sea Biscuit for the first time and it was wonderful! No new books though.

Goal #12 – Visit 12 Museums, Historical Homes or Botanical Gardens {and bakeries too!}
Sadly a lot of museums and botanical gardens are not open {or the effort is go is too great} that this goal has sort of fizzled. It started out great, but quickly went downhill. 🙁 Hopefully we’ll get to do all the things I wanted to do this year, next year.

Goal # 13 – Reach 5,000 Etsy Sales by the End of The Year

Goal #14 – Once a Month Menu Planning {for 2}
And last but not least… heart shaped cucumbers! Aren’t they cute? I used a cucumber mold I bought online several years ago and it still works great.

The goals I hadn’t already finished are on hold due to this crazy year, but I finally finished my napkin sewing project, so I now have napkins for every season and holiday that are stain resistant! I’ll try to write an update on that soon. The napkins weren’t an original goal, but it was definitely a nice mindless sewing project after sewing 100 masks in just a few weeks this spring.
And speaking of masks, now that work has officially started for the school year, I’m getting another wave of requests, so I’ve already made about a dozen more for my boss, coworkers, and students. I’ve tweaked the design over time, and my new thing is to add “hydration ports” to masks so that people can drink through straws without unmasking.

Have you been to Five Islands Lobster Co? I believe they’re open

I recommend the book, My Dear Hamilton, a biography of Elizabeth Hamilton, wife of founding father Alexander Hamilton.

I love the idea of using sticky notes to list the chores/projects for the week! Seems like I’ve always been a yellow pad list-maker but the sticky idea really appeals to me! Both my husband and I can pick what sticky to work on each day without feeling locked in to a schedule. As long as the stickies are gone by supper time Saturday, we’re all good! Going to “borrow” this idea. Thanks so much for sharing!

Wondering about a goal from last year. How many pictures are on your phone right now?
Mavis Butterfield says
2,965. 1 canvas ordered, 0 pictures ordered! Gaaaa.

I like the sticker idea, too! I often wonder why I didn’t think of such a simple (great) idea.
I am almost done reading “The Silent Wife ” by A.S.A. Harrison (there is another one named that, so watch the author) It is fantastic, and very difficult to put down.
DENISE says
Are you getting “The Dutch House” as an audio book? I just finished listening to it read by Tom Hanks. Loved it! Also “Charlotte’s Web” read by Meryl Streep. Incredible job!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, as an audiobook. 🙂

My recommendation for pizza: Cornerstone Pizza 228 Main Street Ogunquit, ME

Do you have any tips for dusting or cleaning the shutter doors? We have them in the bathroom and I struggle to keep them looking nice.
Mavis Butterfield says
I just use a duster {lambswool on a stick basically} and then wipe down the corners of the shutters with a damp cloth every few months.

Ricetta’s has amazing pizza. They opened a branch in Saco last winter. They’re been around since 1989.
Heather says
Colleti’s in Biddeford is pretty solid for pizza.
