My 14 Goals for 2020
Goal #1 – Take Full Advantage of Having My Husband Home 24/7
I put the HH to work this past week changing out the tan colored outlets in the guestroom for white ones and had him install a new light fixture in the room as well. That guy, he’s just so darn handy. I think I’ll keep him.
He also drove 4 hours round trip to pick up 2 kayaks so when The Girl gets here we can paddle around and go exploring.
Goal #2 – Take Better Care of Myself.
I found a new walking path… so that’s good. I also got in a little renovation therapy by painting the guestroom {I’ll share pictures as soon as it’s all done}.
Goal #3 – Get Organized
Currently working on rug #13 since we’ve moved!
Technically the only project I’ve committed myself to is working on my rug hooking this winter. But after I painted the guest bedroom, I decided to start stripping the little side table we brought along with us to maybe use in the entryway.
I had painted it white earlier this summer to set plants on in the sunroom of our last place, but then we sold the house on a whim and now it needs to be more of a wood color to go with the new place. {If you’ve never stripped wood before head on over HERE and I show you how I do it}
Goal #4 – Get Proper Window Coverings on All Our Windows. Done!
Goal #5 – Master Bedroom Make Over Done!
Goal #6 – Kitchen Update Done!
Goal #7 – Install Vegetable Garden Done!
Goal #8 – Explore More of Maine Done!
Goal #9 – Host Some Sort of Get Together Done!
Social interaction is a little sparse around these parts {the HH needs it more than I do} so while it’s highly unlikely we’ll be hosting anymore get togethers this year, the dock guy showed up yesterday to pull out our floating dock {and ramp} for the season. So that means the HH got in some manly man conversation time. 🙂
Apparently it’s a total crap shoot if the cove is going to freeze over during the winter… Dock guy said it didn’t last year, but 2 or 3 years ago the whole thing was frozen solid and you could walk across it. Exciting!
Also, our house is pretty close to a longtime reader of this blog {although I don’t think she’s figured that out yet} so who knows, maybe we’ll finally get to meet after all these years {wouldn’t that be fun} and I’ll have a friend in the area.
We’ve already met the neighbors on both sides of us and the neighbors behind us so I feel like we’re off to a good start.
Goal #10 – Read/Listen to 12 Books {1 more to go. I’m only counting real books, not cookbooks or home decor books}

Goal #12 – Visit 12 Museums, Historical Homes or Botanical Gardens {and bakeries too!} Done!
My goal for last week was to find a new egg stand and well, I found something better than that. Not only do they sell eggs and vegetables, but baked goods as well. It must have been kismet.

Goal # 13 – Reach 5,000 Etsy Sales by the End of The Year DONE!
As of this morning, I have made 5243 sales on Etsy. That’s up from 2804 on January 1st. I LOVE SETTING GOALS… and then knocking them off my list EARLY!
The ornament section of my Etsy shop is ready for the holidays and I just added a few new bundles of wool to the shop as well. Between hooking and dyeing wool and house projects, I’ve been keeping busy.
Goal #14 – Once a Month Menu Planning {for 2}
- The HH’s meal plan for the month: Toasted Cheeze Its
- My meal plan for the month: Crock Pot soups and pot pies.

Have YOU made any goals for this year? If so, DO TELL! We all want to hear about them.
Have a great Sunday everyone, enjoy the view.

I had no idea floating docks had to be pulled out of the water for winter, but that totally makes sense. And nice kayaks! We’ve been canoeing a lot lately, but it’s about to turn too cold for that.
One of my goals was to organize our holiday stuff, and I haven’t been able to get to that yet. Since I’m switching out Halloween decor for Thanksgiving today, I might try to organize the Halloween stuff as I put it back. It’s all kind of interconnected, so I don’t know if it will work to do one holiday at a time, but it’s worth a shot. We don’t have very much stuff, but that’s sort of the issue–it all gets mixed together in larger bins to save space, and I think I need to separate it into smaller bins so that can’t happen.

I am surprised you were able to buy outlet covers. Here in WI electrical supplies are really in short supply. Keep that in mind for any more home improvements you may want to do
Brianna says
Yes! We removed parts of our rotten wood deck in April and we’re going to replace it with treated boards. We have had a very hard time finding joist hangers and the boards. We have no deck still and I call weekly to 4 home improvement/hardware stores. I’ve been able to get a few pieces here and there, but not enough to fix what needs to be done. I really feel like chainsawing the rest of it down and just doing something else. We live in a single-story house so I could have stairs put In from the doors down and have a slab poured or something.

Your husband’s meal plan for the week made me laugh because I just bought a (serious) cookbook that has 2 recipes (that l’ve read so far) that call for Cheez- its. I have one on our menu for Monday & can’t wait because they are my favorite snack!
Mavis Butterfield says
That’s funny! Let me know how it goes. 🙂

With winter coming you might be looking for some good reads. I just started ‘The Indigo Girl’ (Eliza Lucas Pinckney – a Founding Mother (per Cokie Roberts)) and I am loving it. It’s about her life and her development of indigo as a cash crop in South Carolina. WIth your dying of wool, I thought you might like it. A story based on historical facts and events.

Hi, Miss Mavis –
I was looking on your contact page and it says there is a form to fill out to contact you, but I don’t think it’s working.
LaToya says
Roger that – thank you!
Mavis Butterfield says
It’s all fixed now. Thanks LaToya! You can send me a message via the contact page. 🙂

With the terrible winds today I’m worried all our leaf raking from yesterday has been destroyed and leaf pick up starts tomorrow. But with rain and snow forecasted today I don’t really care. Dh already went grocery shopping this morning and did great. I had 1 pint of blueberries on the list aNd he came home with 3, they were b1g2 free. He said we can freeze two and I think he is finally paying attention to how I think and shop, yay!
Last night I ordered a new fridge that will come Tuesday – we are using ice packs to keep our fridge at the right temp and that is not sustainable. I want to get our freezers organized and do an inventory. Day 2 of quarantine and I have a list a mile long of things I can accomplish!
Annette says
Where did you order your fridge from? I hear they have a 2-3 month wait time.
Jennifer says
Lowe’s. We shopped several stores last week and talked with Reps about the back orders. Many items are taking months to ship which is why we didn’t want to wait longer before getting something. Basically you have to find something in stock somewhere or who knows how long it will take is what we were told.
Lana Popejoy says
We ordered a fridge and a freezer back at end of March. We are still waiting on them. Last I heard was fridge was due here last week and freezer after January 1st.
At this point, I’ll believe it when I see them.
Susan says
Thanks for the movie tip about Fisherman’s Friends. What a gem it is! Even my husband liked it which is saying something. Not something I would normally turn towards as movies go, but it was very entertaining.
Mavis Butterfield says
Glad you liked it! I’ve already watched it a second time. 🙂
SandyF says
I watched it last night while knitting. I loved it! Told my sister to watch it too. Thank you!
What brand kayaks did you get? I have a double oven kayak, but it is so heavy we can hardly carry it .
I am going to buy two singles. I guess I will have to paddle myself…darn
Sandy says
Ooops- spell check turned Ocean into oven
Mavis Butterfield says
The brand is Lifetime, they are 10′ and weigh 50 pounds each. I like the sit on top ones better than the sit inside ones but now I think we need a canoe too! 🙂
Laura says
I really liked it too. I watched it on Halloween instead of scary movies. I think a much better choice. Thanks for the heads up!
CarolB says
My HH picked that movie on a whim Friday night and it was so good. We both really enjoyed it and now I want to visit a little seaside village in Cornwall. 🙂
Kathy Wolfe says
Do you have a video to your rug making process? Would love to see it.
Mavis Butterfield says
Hi Kathy,
I don’t have a hooking video but there are a bunch online. I don’t use a hoop or a frame when I hook {but most people do} so I’m not sure I’d be the best for an instructional video. 🙂
Linda says
IIt is so nice that you are finally getting some rest and relaxation (tongue in cheek here) I’m glad you are having a good time. I never believed the bit about only hooking til spring anyway.
Sue says
For months now I’ve been stuck a pound or so above my weight goal for the year. Then on Thursday I got the second shot of the shingles vaccine, and experienced some strongish side effects Friday and Saturday, including no appetite for most of those two days. Well, voila, that was enough to push me under that last pound, so last night I declared my weight goal met! And I’m protected against shingles to boot! Win-win!
Susie Janov says
LOL!!! That reminds me of Emily’s line in “The Devil Wears Prada” – “I’m just one stomach flu away from my goal weight.”
Mavis Butterfield says
That’s what I was thinking too. Well done Sue!
Teri says
Hopefully you still have your ice skates, if it freezes that will be fun. Pics of your new place PLEASE!
