My 14 Goals for 2020
Goal #1 – Take Full Advantage of Having My Husband Home 24/7
The HH’s projects this week were cleaning up the yard {before he does the last mow of the season} and prepping the hallway {unscrewing things from the walls and removing light fixtures} so I can paint the walls today.
He also practiced his slip knot. Something I just assumed he already knew how to do. He’s a quick learner though and so now I feel like I should get him a book of knots or something because we live by the water.
Goal #2 – Take Better Care of Myself.
My current workstation: the dining room table. Who needs tv with a view like that?
Goal #3 – Get Organized
The HH’s winter project: Replace the tile in the entry way. 🙂
It took him 3 months to replace the tile in our last kitchen… mostly because it was the first time he had ever attempted to replace tile. I have a feeling this project will go a lot faster though {or at least I’m hoping it will}.
The 12″ x 24″ slate tile we selected for the floor should be a lot easier to lay than 4″ x 2″ subway tile is on a wall. But there are two pieces he has to cut to fit around the trim that look a little tricky. Oh well, I guess that’s what YouTube is for, right? #NotMyProblem 🙂
Goal #4 – Get Proper Window Coverings on All Our Windows. Done!
Goal #5 – Master Bedroom Make Over Done!
Goal #6 – Kitchen Update Done!
Goal #7 – Install Vegetable Garden Done!
Goal #8 – Explore More of Maine Done!
Goal #9 – Host Some Sort of Get Together Done!
The only visitors we had this week were a dozen Canada Geese.
Goal #10 – Read/Listen to 12 Books {1 more to go. I’m only counting real books, not cookbooks or home decor books}
Chickens, Gin, and a Maine Friendship: The Correspondence of E. B. White and Edmund Ware Smith is still on my nightstand but I didn’t get a chance to read much of it this week.
I did thumb through a few magazines though looking for kitchen ideas and taped the ones I like so far up on our kitchen wall. A kitchen remodel is in our future, but probably not until next winter so I’ve got plenty of time to find the right look. While I may not know the exact layout/look I want, I do know the current blue/grey walls will be painted white. 😉

Goal # 13 – Reach 5,000 Etsy Sales by the End of The Year DONE!
As of this morning, I have made 5367 sales on Etsy. That’s up from 2804 on January 1st. Wahoo! I think my new goal should be 5500 sales by the end of the year.
Friday I listed a bunch of new giant wool bundles in my Etsy store and so this week I think I’ll work on a few more pillows.
I’ve also been busy packing up ornaments and I’m looking forward to getting my kiln set up again in the Spring.
Goal #14 – Once a Month Menu Planning {for 2}
- The HH’s meal plan for the month: Hershey bars and beef sticks
- My meal plan for the month: Comfort foods.

I wanted to be done with the Christmas shopping I needed to physically go into stores for this weekend. I am failing on that as stores are out of so much. Ugh, going to have to rethink it. Whether my state issues another stay at home order ( needed) or not (probably won’t happen) WE need to stay home. I guess I am switching to online shopping.

Beautiful low bank view. Love the new tile but be patient with Hubby. The bigger stuff is actually hard to level. He may need to float the subfloor or get a tile leveling system. they work kinda like spacers.

I had to chime in and agree with the previous poster. If this is your forever home, and more importantly, your forever husband!, just hire an experienced tile contractor. Many things about home improvements require a vast amount of knowledge and skill that cannot be learned from HGTV or YouTube. Take it from me — my husband is a skilled contractor and even he subs out his tile work. Floor tile, in particular, is very tricky to install, regardless of the size of your tile, and an installation mistake could be a messy and expensive tear-out.

Thank you for your blog! I’ve had COVID for just over a week, the hubby is sick, the kids all have it, and my dad is in the hospital with it. We’ve had some awful days this past week, but just looking at the simple happy things you write about and the beautiful pictures in your blog has really just given me a normal and some optimism and not dwell on the bad.
Joely says
I’m so sorry. I hope you are all better soon and your father comes home from the hospital safe and healthy.

I love that you both want comfort food this month – because that’s clearly what Hershey bars and beef sticks are to him! (I mean, what ELSE could that be?!?!?)
I always love your blog, and your new home is just amazing! I’m do happy that you bring us along on the adventure you call life!
Annette says
Beef sticks . . . Have you tried a brand named Chomps? Yumm.
And that view looks like a postcard!!

HH seems to be so meticulous with details that I bet he does a very professional job. I just hate dust raising jobs……..if this is one.

Beautiful view !!
Buy the HH the Saker Contour Gauge
It’s a cool not expensive tool he should have for his projects I think it works for tile too
Google it your can watch a video
Good luck

My one goal for the year was to survive total hip replacement surgery. After 2 postponements because of the pandemic, I am 15 weeks post op and doing fantastic. I went back to work at the 12 week mark, but 1-2 days a week, light duty and sit when I need to. My boss is accommodating and not pushing me, considering I work front register in a drug store.
My comfort food right now is anything homemade and warm, be it bread (I’ve learned how to make it sitting down), chili, soup or unstuffed cabbage.
Everyone, please stay healthy and stay safe!
Gigi says
My comfort foods today were apple cranberry pie and cranberry pumpkin (sub butternut squash) bread.
