My 14 Goals for 2020
Goal #1 – Take Full Advantage of Having My Husband Home 24/7
My resident handy man installed the new light fixture in the entryway and so {hopefully} his project this week will be to tear up the old tile in the entry and change out a few outlet/light switches for me in the family room so I can begin painting in there.
Goal #2 – Take Better Care of Myself.
The Girl arrived yesterday and so after she made everyone a plate of pickety bits, we retreated to the bedroom and watched 3 movies in a row {The Grinch, Elf and A Christmas Story}. And then I kicked her out of my room because it was 8 o’clock and I’m old and wanted to go to bed. 🙂
On the agenda for today at Camp Butterfield is making jammie pants {and yes, that is a YELLOW wall!}. We found the free pattern online at Trevor Loves Mommy. I’ll post some pictures when we get them all sewn up.
We’re using this adorable lobster print fabric from Alewives Fabrics here in Damariscotta Mills, Maine. They have the best selection of fabric and luckily they have an online shop too. Also, if you are looking for the best ironing board on the planet, I finally splurged earlier this year and bought the Brabantia ironing board and it has been an absolute dream to use. I’m still on the hunt for a new iron though, so if you have one you absolutely love, please let me know in the comment section below.
Goal #4 – Get Proper Window Coverings on All Our Windows. Done!
Goal #5 – Master Bedroom Make Over Done!
Goal #6 – Kitchen Update Done!

Goal #9 – Host Some Sort of Get Together Done!
The only visitor we had this week was 1 lone turkey. Poor Tom. All his friends are MIA. 🙁
Goal #10 – Read/Listen to 12 Books {1 more to go. I’m only counting real books, not cookbooks or home decor books}
Currently waiting my turn to listen to The Exiles by Christina Baker Kline, A Christmas Carol by Dickens and The Best of Me by David Sedaris. and still working my way through Chickens, Gin, and a Maine Friendship: The Correspondence of E. B. White and Edmund Ware Smith.

Goal # 13 – Reach 5,000 Etsy Sales by the End of The Year DONE!
As of this morning, I have made 5529 sales on Etsy. That’s up from 2804 on January 1st. Wahoo! My new goal is to hit 5600 sales by the end of the year.
On Friday I listed some more wool bundles and this week I plan to make two new kits available in the Etsy shop {and possibly list 3 more pillows}.
I sold lot’s of ornaments this week and I’m looking forward to getting the kiln set up {hopefully in January or February, we just have to figure out where to put it first}.

Love the lobster fabric! Making pajama pants was one of my goals, but I ended up making 150+ face masks instead, and all my fabric went to that. I still have smaller remnants of Christmas fabric though, so I might still try to knock out another version of my reusable wrapping paper. We’ll see.
One of my goals was to organize our holiday decor so that it’s easier to pull it all out and decorate. We don’t have that much, but it all got jumbled together, so that was super annoying whenever I needed something. I tried a couple times over the summer to tackle it, but I quickly realized that it would be easier to do it after each holiday or season arrived this year. So, I organized the Halloween and Thanksgiving stuff yesterday, and I just need to pack it into some bins today.
And I’m with you on turkey leftovers. I made a huge batch of turkey stock yesterday, and I used the leftover gravy to make two pot pies to freeze. I’ll use the stock with some of the meat in soup for dinner tonight and freeze the leftovers, but I think I might have enough meat left to make a couple more pot pies.

I haven’t even looked at goals or plans I had in 2020 since all was so out of whack beginning mid MArch in my family. suppose I should starting thinking on 2021, which has to be better right? I have some organization goals tha tI ight still meet by years end, and some personal improvement goas-more reading for fun, more pod casts to help my mental health. The lobster fabric is wonderful.

Hi Mavis,
No ideas on an iron for you. But, I still have the ironing board I pulled out of the trash 42 years ago! They sure don’t make them like they use to!
Kris says
Hi Mavis –
Glad the Girl came to see your new home. I’m in Eastern Oregon but I have a lone visitor – Mrs. Turkey! She is a beautiful but lonely Heritage Turkey. I had some meal worms (for my Robins) and she did a funny happy dance for those! She must live up on the mountain.
I made Turkey Ala King to pack in my dh’s lunch and he can’t wait to eat it. I froze my stock for turkey noodle soup later.
I love the pajamas. I can’t wait to see them.
Since reading your blog, my goals are to simplify and organize so I will have hours and hours to craft/garden guilt free. 🙂

best iron ever, “Rowenta Focus”, I may or may not have more than one Costco used to carry them, not sure about recently. You won’t regret this purchase.
Sue Noyes says
I can second the Rownta. I’ve had mine for 15 years. It’s a great iron. Thank you for being the inspiration you are for many of us. Many of the things you share are things that improve people’s lives.
Heidi P says
I third the Rowenta. I love mine. Great steam when you need it.
HollyG says
Another vote for Rowenta. I bought both of mine for under $15.00 at a thrift shop and the are both fantastic. I have my grandmother’s ironing board. It’s huge, it’s heavy, it’s loud, and I LOVE it. I think my whole family could sit on it and be fine.
Vicki says
Yes…Rowenta. I have the promaster. The most I’ve ever spent on an iron and its worth every penny.
Vicki says
Makes quick work of ironing and has great steam. Heats up quickly and self cleans.
Vickie says
I love my Chi iron. I read the reviews on Amazon when they were on sale and went for it. Love it. Attended a 3 day quilting retreat in October in Kansas, it was one of the instructors irons.
Heidi P says
My goals went kaputz when you know what hit. My focus changed and have tried to salvage the year for my two boys who graduated this year. 1 high school and 1 college.
Love the jammie prints.
I received my ornament order this past week and absolutely love them all. Thanks for the speedy delivery to the opposite coast, lovely packaging and high quality product. Although they were for gifts I’m thinking one or two might stay home with us:)
Terena says
Mavis, Mavis! You need to ship to Canada. We love your ornaments, too.
And your blog. But, you know, Christmas gifts!
Mavis Butterfield says
I am happy to ship to Canada, just leave me a note on the specific ornament you’d like on Etsy with your shipping address and I can see how much shipping would be. 🙂

Rowenta Irons are on Amazon’s Cyber Monday list

For a less pricey option of iron we love our Black & Decker Digital Advantage iron. $40 It has great steaming which is a must for us. We’ve had it for several years already and we iron a lot. (I’ve been in a pandemic time warp so I’m not a good judge of time anymore…it could be more like 6 years. Ha!) Would not hesitate to buy another one when a new one is needed.
Julia Park Tracey says
Mavis, we accomplished the biggest goal of the year this weekend when we moved into our newly renovated house after 11 months of work. We bought last year and planned to get started in February for a 30-week project. Of course it went a little long but it was worth it. I’m in love with this house and am ready to set new goals for 2021. Thanks for the inspiration.
Mavis Butterfield says
Well done Julia!
