My 14 Goals for 2020
Goal #1 – Take Full Advantage of Having My Husband Home 24/7
Last week the HH installed the new light fixture in the entryway, and this week he worked on breaking up the tile. The whole process of breaking up the tile was a two day affair though because the person who installed the tile used some sort of super strength adhesive for a small section of the tile and so that meant the HH had to make the drive out to the hardware store to buy a new tool.
An air hammer I think he called it. Anyway, all the tile is up now and so I’m pretty sure he’ll stare at it for another week, so some research about what the next step is, and then head back to the hardware store for more supplies. Whatever. As long as it’s done before Christmas… that’s all I care about. š
Goal #2 – Take Better Care of Myself.
I wore pajamas more than I wore real clothes, I baked cookies, I worked on rug hooking patterns, we had a fire in the woodstove and I got plenty of rest {it’s so much easier to do that hear because it’s so quiet} and I woke up to a backyard full of snow this morning!!! What more could a girl ask for?
Goal #3 – Get Organized
The HH helped me organized my work space area in the basement this week but we are still having a hard time figuring out the best layout for not only a wool dyeing station, but an area for me to do my pottery as well.
Space wise, I think there will be just enough room, but the basement has sort of an awkward layout and so figuring out where everything should go when we remodel the area has been a bit of a challenge.
It would be so much easier to just call a contractor and have them take care of the whole project for us, but I also know there would be a HUGE savings if we could do it ourselves.
Goal #4 – Get Proper Window Coverings on All Our Windows. Done!
Goal #5 – Master Bedroom Make Over Done!
Goal #6 – Kitchen Update Done!
Goal #7 – Install Vegetable Garden Done!
Goal #8 – Explore More of Maine Done!
Goal #9 – Host Some Sort of Get Together Done!
My motivation level to leave the house is pretty low these days. š
Goal #10 – Read/Listen to 12 Books {1 more to go. I’m only counting real books, not cookbooks or home decor books}
I made it 2 hours and 25 minutes into The Exiles by Christina Baker Kline, and then couldn’t take it anymore and deleted the book. I think the only reason I hung in there so long was because I was drawing out patterns while I was listening to the story.
A Christmas Carol by Dickens and The Best of Me by David Sedaris are still in my queue and still working my way through Chickens, Gin, and a Maine Friendship: The Correspondence of E. B. White and Edmund Ware Smith.

Goal # 13 – Reach 5,000 Etsy Sales by the End of The Year DONE!
As of this morning, I have made 5635 sales on Etsy. That’s up from 2804 on January 1st. Hot dog! On Friday I listed some more wool bundles and added a new rug hooking kit to my Etsy shop.
I sold lot’s of ornaments this past week and now I’m down to 1 cardinal, a few chickens, some hedgehogs and mushrooms and the classics {candy canes, reindeer, and gingerbread}. It’s been fun to see which ornaments go to what states. For instance, I tend to ship more whales to Massachusetts and California, hedgehogs to the Mid-West and cardinals to the East Coast.
Goal #14 – Once a Month Menu Planning {for 2}
- The HH’s current meal plan for the rest of the month: Snack, snacks and more snacks.
- My current meal plan for the rest of the month: SOUP!

Do you have a full size kiln? Perhaps a tour of a working studio, before you install your kiln, might help. Kilns are seldom installed in basements due to their potential for off gassing from some clays and or glazes. A dedicated
electrical panel is always recommended as could fry ALL of the wiring in your home by a misfire from the kiln. Serge spikes, especially in a semi remote area are common as well. Just one failed fire and you may ruin your kiln and send nasty particles into your home for years to come. Just a heads up

Mavis are you a Stephen King fan? You are probably aware that many of his stories are set in Maine.
I like most of his stuff — not the dark tower series, but nearly all the others.
I try to listen to one of his each Halloween. This year was “Under The Dome” and I loved it! It’s really long (over 30 hours) so covered a lot of yard work and knitting time for me.

Mavis, have you considered doing some dog ornaments? Lots of us dog lovers out here. I’ve named our new house that we are moving into Black Dog Cottage since we have 3 black dogs.

In years past I’ve done personalized dog bones but this year I only have ‘Woof” bones as I do not have the kiln set up to take personalized orders right now.

Will you be making more redware ornaments I bought three this year they’re my go-to Christmas gifts.?

Can you please once more tell me the name of those shoes you wear, with thick soles? You talked about them once but I cannot find that post. They are lace up shoes, if that is any help. Thanks.

We just removed tile, vinyl, and parquet flooring…the worst glue was under the parquet. Hours on our knees with razorblades and a heat gun. Still have three rooms with vinyl and three with carpet. Can’t wait to get rid of all of it. No more carpet ever.
