Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
Bananas. I’m eating a lot of bananas {and dried apricots} these days. If only I could get a good Fuji apple though, that would be nice.
Visit 24 {new} Bakeries / Coffee Shops
I feel like I am a little behind on this goal but we did visit pastry shop #5 recently. The pastries were so pretty though, they deserve a post of their own so I’ll wait and tell you where we went and what we tried soon.
New Bakeries / Coffee Shops I’ve Been To This Year:
- Ritual Bakehouse and Patisserie
- Standard Baking Co.
- Saltwater Farm Cafe
- Coffee Roasters of the Kennebunks
Go On An Adventure
I do have my first adventure of the year planned out and while on the surface it’s a bit of a strange adventure, there is a special meaning behind the destination. And it has something to do with this color palette. 🙂
Contribute to 12 Free Little Libraries. {3 town down, 9 to go}
I didn’t visit the library this past week so I didn’t pick up any new craft books to donate to a free little library. I have been accumulating a stack of craft books though, so when I do get the chance to pop by a free little library, I’ll have enough to donate to a few different locations.
Towns I’ve donated books to:
- Gardiner, Maine
- Nobleboro, Maine
- Kennebunk and Kennebunkport
Tidy Up / Clean Out / Purge
Hey! I did a thing! I cleaned out all the drawers and cupboards in the kitchen and started a donation bag. Yee-Haw. It’s a start, right? Maybe this week I’ll tackle the sideboard.
- Barn
- Garage
- Closets
- Dresser drawers

Spend More Time At The Beach
I didn’t make it to the beach this week. 🙁 Partly because it was snowing and the weather stunk, and partly because I am trying to finish up all my patterns. Hopefully I’ll be able to go in a few days though… I LOVE walking on the beach. And collecting shells. And watching Lucy get all excited too.
Paint
I am currently working “Goldfish” By Henri Matisse and I already have my next paint by numbers all lined up.
So far I’ve finished:
- Portrait of Joseph Roulin
- Red Boats at Argenteuil
- Regattas at Argenteuil
- Vase with Cornflowers and Poppies
- Sunflowers
- Garden Path with Chickens
In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 15th/ March 30th Now April 15th
I had a very productive week in the wool bundling/ pattern drawing department. I extended my deadline to April 15th and at the rate I am going, I should have everything done on time.
It will feel SO GOOD to have this “part” done so I can focus on the other projects I want to accomplish this summer. Like, gardening, hooking big rugs and hanging out at the beach just to name a few.
Hook 6 “Big” Rugs.
Last week I finished my big three roosters rug which was quite the undertaking and now I’m on to my next project: Yankee Doodle by Lucille Festa. I’m hoping to have it finished in a couple more days. This rug will count as a “big” rug.
After I finish this one I think I’ll do a couple of quick, smaller rugs before starting on my next large rug.
Large Rugs I’ve Hooked This Year
Visit 6 Greenhouses {that I’ve never been to before}.
No visits to any greenhouses this past week, but I already know which one I want to go to first.
Grow Baby Grow
It snowed. Again. And while we didn’t get the 15” that was predicted {more like 4 inches when all was said and done} it’s still too early to plant anything yet.
Donate to 12 Different Organizations in Maine
Nothing new to report in the donations department this past week but I’ve started a list and I’m looking forward to making my 4th donation to a local Maine charity in April.
So Far This Year I’ve Donated To:
- New Hope MidCoast {50 pairs of new socks}
- Humane Society {180 trays of cat food}
*I still need to Drop off the art supplies to Camp Sunshine
So how are YOUR goals for 2024 coming along? I’d love to hear about them.

Have you looked to see if your library has any reciprocal libraries? I get access to 7 other libraries Libby catalog using my existing library card. Here’s a post with the steps: https://www.reddit.com/r/audiobooks/s/eEFDSd1UiN

My only goal last week was to visit with friends and family and eat all my favorite things in my hometown of New Orleans. I’m sorry to say that I did NOT meet all my goals. There just wasn’t enough time in a day! We tried our best though! Next time…

Have you listened to Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand? I am a sucker for a good British story and the accent is a bonus. This might be an audio book you could get while you are waiting for the others.
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks Patty, it was available!! I’ll start it tonight. Thanks so much.

I don’t know about Fuji, but the Cosmic Crisp from Costco have been very good. Do you like Cosmic Crisp?
Mavis Butterfield says
I don’t think I have tried the Cosmic Crisp apple. I’ll be on the lookout for it now though, thanks Eliz.
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ll have to give them a try. 🙂

Cool note about Henri Matisse: I live near Asheville, NC. Henri Matisse’s great grandson lives here. He owns a pottery business called East Fork Pottery. Check out their website. I hosted a meet and greet about 6 years ago at my house. He was just starting out the business. He had a slide show and spoke about visiting Paris.

Hey, Mavis —
That color palette reminds me of the many faces of the ocean in all kinds of weather, along with its adjacent sand and/or rocks. Now you have my curiosity piqued for sure!

I did a HUGE purge this week as we’re getting ready to list our house and move into a Tiny House for a year. I think that qualifies for an “Adventure” goal also!
I’m curious – do you listen to your audio books out loud or with airpods/headphones?
I’m also curious about your rug hooking. While purging I ran across a rug hook kit that I started probably 25-30 years ago and never finished because I wasn’t really sure what I was doing. Are you self-taught or did you take a class? I’m thinking that I might have time to try it again once we’re in the tiny house (supposedly less house to take care of!).
Mavis Butterfield says
I am self-taught. To this day I have never taken a class. Rug hooking is pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

I just finished “Oath and Honor” by Liz Cheney. Working on a good size rug that Lucille designed for me, of my house and looking forward to her Open House and Hookin in April. I worked on cleaning the garage today myself. After 40-plus years in this house, every nook and cranny needs a tidy-up. Big time. Just seems like never enough time for all the things I want to do.

LibriVox is a free repository of audiobooks, a bunch are older books that are in the public domain now, and some that the authors allowed to be shared … there are some treasures in there.

J in OH-IO says
Mavis, could you use your husband’s library card to check out audio books? Or use both Libbey and Hoopla with your library card number? Or maybe you use Libbey and on Hoopla your husband’s library card?
Can’t wait to hear where your next adventure is going to be! Paint by number… somewhere by the sea or shores with rocks.
Mavis Butterfield says
Ha! I didn’t think of using his card. Hmmm. I’ll have to see if he has books on his waiting list too.
Ashley Bananas says
Your library system must be very small to only allow three holds at a time and have that long of wait times. I would consider seeing if someone you know like your daughter or son has a library card if they would let you borrow their credentials, especially if they have a larger system the wait time would be shorter.
