Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
I ordered a case of my all time favorite canned vegetable, Heinz beans last week thanks to an Amazon promotional credit the HH had from ordering a new cell phone a while back. Heinz beans… Have you ever tried them?
If I could only eat 5 things for the rest of my life, this would be one of them.

I didn’t contribute to any free little libraries this week but I did pick up An American Celebration by Charles Wysockt at the library book sale for $3 this past week.
I haven’t had a chance to really go through all the pages yet but I’m hoping the artwork within will inspire some new rug designs.

The puggle princess and I got in some good beach walks thanks to some really nice weather. It’s still a bit breezy in the mornings but I’ll take it!
Paint
I continued to work on “Goldfish” By Henri Matisse but I’, still not sure if I like it. I think maybe it’s the reds and the yellows with the green background I’m not too crazy about. Too many primary colors. We’ll see.
So far I’ve finished:
- Portrait of Joseph Roulin
- Red Boats at Argenteuil
- Regattas at Argenteuil
- Vase with Cornflowers and Poppies
- Sunflowers
- Garden Path with Chickens

I finally finished up all the major wool dyeing and pattern/kit making I had hoped too. It feels SO GOOD to have this goal checked off my list! Now I can spend as much time as I want to OUTSIDE this summer! Yee-Haw.
Hook 6 “Big” Rugs.
I finished hooking the Yankee Doodle rug {pattern by Lucille Festa} and listed it last night in my Etsy shop along with a few other patriotic pieces. 🙂 I have a few more smaller pieces I want to hook, and then I’ll start on another large rug. I LOVE hooking the big ones… They are so satisfying when they are done.
Large Rugs I’ve Hooked This Year
Visit 6 Greenhouses {that I’ve never been to before}.
No visits to any greenhouses this past week, but I already know which one I want to go to first.
Grow Baby Grow
All the spring seeds {peas, carrots, radish, beets and lettuce} have been planted and it feels good to have that done.
I have zero plans for a giant garden this summer {more on that later} but it feels good to have the kitchen garden planted and ready to grow. 🙂
Donate to 12 Different Organizations in Maine
I made a monetary donation to the Travis Mills Foundation in Mt Vernon, Maine this month as part of my giving back to 12 different Maine organizations this year.
“The Travis Mills Foundation supports veterans and their families who have been injured in active duty or as a result of their service to our nation receive an all-inclusive, all-expenses-paid, barrier-free experience in Maine where they participate in adaptive activities, bond with other veteran families, and enjoy much-needed rest and relaxation in Maine’s outdoors. “

I think those beans are good if you like a sweeter baked bean type of bean. They are a bit sweet for me, but I would eat them in a pinch.

You’re good with color maybe you could tone down or even change the offending colors? Nothing to lose if you’re going to donate it anyway. Love the double duty canning cupboard.
Annette says
Do you eat the beans with hot dogs etc?
Mavis Butterfield says
No… Just heated up. Sometimes with toast. 🙂 They taste totally different than American beans.
Lori says
Mavis, I bought the Heinz beans in tomato sauce a couple of weeks ago by accident. Let me tell you wow!, wow,! Wow! It our new favorite. We love them over a hot baked potato. Quick and easy and delicious! .
Kristen says
Oooh I think Charles Wysocki is very inspiring. Can’t wait to see what you come up with after perusing the book!
Jean says
I have never heard or seen those kind of beans! (Michigan). I will go looking for them.
I am going to follow your lead and develop some goals for summer.
Jennifer says
Fun fact… If you see a guy’s head on the back of the Heinz can with a QR code to click, that’s my brother! It’s a little video on growing tomatoes that get used in production. He’s been a Heinz man his whole life.
Mavis Butterfield says
Oh how fun! I will have to look for one of those cans.

I grew up on Heinz Baked Beans they are the best and they are now made with less sugar. We had beans on toast for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner when there wasn’t much else to eat but mostly it was for breaskfast. I have even got my HH to eat and love beans on toast. Sometimes we ate them with Chips (English French fries but much thicker), Chips and beans we called it. I must see if there is another offer on them as I really do love them. I don’t like the one’s here with brown sugar and bacon as they are too sweet.
Us Brits are a little crazy, I get teased because we have everything on toast. Beans, canned spaghetti eggs, cheese, sardines, marmite, canned tuna, jam, dripping with a little salt (that was a true staple growing up toast and dripping with salt). Yummy, I guss the toast is the vehicle to get the yummy food to your mouth??
Mavis Butterfield says
I agree, the Brits do love their toast! I love it too though and yes to beans and toast. 🙂
Amanda says
I grew up eating heinz baked beans ( from UK).
However, I don’t know if they’ve changed the recipe as I now find them too sweet. I now prefer either Sainsbury’s or Aldi
/ Lidl own brand.
They are very versatile, on toast, on jacket potatoes or tip into a casserole

Goals? I feel so busy I’m not sure if I have any this year. Actually, you inspired me to write down my goals this year, and your posts are a good reminder to check in on myself periodically.
Thank you for suggesting the paint by numbers on canvas. I bought one for my mother and we did this as an activity when visiting her a few weeks ago. Her health is not well, and on a phone call she had recently asked for a paint brush. She used to do drawing and oil painting when she was younger. It was great to do this with her.
I also shared the link for the Travis Mills foundation with friends where the husband is a veteran.

I have tried Heinz beans and like them well enough. Plain and simple with a good flavor. I do want to try their Curry beans.
But my most favorite beans are by the Serious Bean Company. Jalapeno Bacon, Hot Honey, Carolina Gold, Sweet & Smoky Chipotle,…–they are all loaded with great spices and tons of flavor. No “doctoring up” needed!
We grilled cheddar jalapeno brat patties yesterday, and I’m thinking a bowl of Serious Beans needs to accompany the leftovers…
