Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
Now that things have calmed down a bit {except for the fact that we are living in an airbnb} I can work on eating better rather than having to eat what’s convenient. Big salads… Here I come!
Visit 24 {new} Bakeries / Coffee Shops
Finally! I found another bakery worth talking about. Why is it so hard to find a bakery that makes their food from scratch these days? I’ll share more about my new find in a few days.
New Bakeries / Coffee Shops I’ve Been To This Year:
- Ritual Bakehouse and Patisserie
- Caramel Patisserie
- Standard Baking Co.
- Saltwater Farm Cafe
- Coffee Roasters of the Kennebunks
Go On An Adventure
If you could go anywhere in the world… Where would you go? I just picked up Bucket List North America and it has some good ideas.
Contribute to 12 Free Little Libraries. {3 town down, 9 to go}
I didn’t contribute to any free little libraries this week nor did I pick up any new books at the library sale.
Towns I’ve donated books to:
- Gardiner, Maine
- Nobleboro, Maine
- Kennebunk and Kennebunkport
Tidy Up / Clean Out / Purge DONE
We cleaned the whole house, inside and out. And then we sold it. Yee-Haw!

Read or Listen to 24 Books {7 down, 17 to go}
I was finally able to start Crying in H-Mart. I’m 2 hours in and although it is an interesting book, it’s not for me. I’ll hit the return button tonight and search for something else.
Books I’ve Read or Listened To This Year:
- Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service by Gary Sinise. 10/10
- Elizabeth The Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch by Sally Bedell Smith 9/10
- Wait Till Next Year by Dorris Kearns Goodwin 8/10
- George VI and Elizabet:by Sally Bedell Smith 9/10
- Steve Jobs by Walter Issacson 9/10
- These Precious Days by Ann Pachett 9.5/10
- Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson
Spend More Time At The Beach
One of my mini goals is to go to the beach everyday this week. Lucy LOVES walking on the beach… and so do I.
Paint
I started my next {and maybe my last?} paint by numbers for the year. I am keeping the subject of the painting a secret for now though because the plan is to actually go to the scene in the painting when I am done. 🙂
Also, I’m pretty sure no one could possibly guess where that is. But maybe. We’ll see.
So far I’ve finished:
- Portrait of Joseph Roulin
- Red Boats at Argenteuil
- Regattas at Argenteuil
- Vase with Cornflowers and Poppies
- Sunflowers
- Garden Path with Chickens
- Goldfish
In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 15th/ March 30th Now April 15th DONE!
I finally finished up all the major wool dyeing and pattern/kit making I had hoped too. All the “extra” wool is tucked away in bins so if I run out of wool in my Etsy shop I can whip up some more bundles in a jiffy. A summer off from dyeing wool… It’s going to be pretty rad.
Hook 6 “Big” Rugs.
No “big rugs” for the next few months but I did start a new {small} design. I should have it done it in day or two.
Large Rugs I’ve Hooked This Year
Visit 6 Greenhouses {that I’ve never been to before}.
No visits to any greenhouses this past week, but I already know which one I want to go to first.
Grow Baby Grow
My kitchen garden {along with the house} has been sold… So for the time being, I get to enjoy the plants and flowers that everyone has planted.
Hopefully though, we’ll find a new place quickly and I’ll be able to get a garden in this year. Or who knows? Maybe we’ll find a house with a garden already installed?
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that everything comes together and I’ll get to grow some tomatoes this year.
Donate to 12 Different Organizations in Maine
I haven’t donated to any organizations yet for May, but I was thinking about instead of donating money or supplies, maybe I might donate my time instead this month and clean up the beach instead.
People are always leaving stuff behind, and things always seem to come ashore… So why not? That would totally count as “giving back to my community” don’t you think?
So Far This Year I’ve Donated To:
- New Hope MidCoast {50 pairs of new socks}
- Humane Society {180 trays of cat food}
- Travis Mills Foundation
*I still need to Drop off the art supplies to Camp Sunshine
So how are YOUR goals for 2024 coming along? I’d love to hear about them.

I couldn’t get through Crying in H Mart either but I didn’t want to say anything because everyone is different. I hope the next one is good.
Laura says
The cover photo looks a lot like the Maple Heather Pass hike in the North Cascades!
Tammy says
I still can’t believe you sold your house!
Tracey says
I listen to Crying in HMart, and I finally decided that I can’t go there anymore. I need something uplifting and comic and joyous.
Janice says
Donating your time to clean the beach totally counts as giving back! Imagine how things would look if we each picked up a bit of trash on our outings. I love this!

I just finished Funny Story by Emily Henry & it was a very light-hearted and entertaining read. If you like rom-com type books, I recommend it.
I’m almost done w the audio book version of You Me Everything (Brit lit) & I’m really enjoying it too.
I’m currently on the waiting list for East of Eden for audio. I’ve read it a bunch of times but a friend recommended listening to it for a different experience.

I can’t believe you sold your house after all the neat changes you made to get it just how you wanted it! What about the robin blue stove we all waited so long for you to get? I imagine it is going with the house, since appliances usually do!
I surely wish you the best in your new adventures. Can’t wait for you to tell us about the new place you decide on!
Gigi says
My uncle organizes his local beach clean up day. In other words, he posts on Facebook when he’s going and whoever shows shows. No pressure and no expectations. He brings extra bags. Maybe convince the chef to do it with you and chef can provide some snacks?
Mellie says
Have you read Tom Ryan’s Following Atticus and Will’s Red Coat? It’s been years since I listened to them and I still think about them. After listening to them both I got a little dog and took up hiking. She and I have logged many many hours doing serious hiking. I can’t recommend them enough.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! Read them both a few years ago and loved them.
Mellie says
He is working on his next book and I can’t wait for its release.
Kathy Wolfe says
And just like that…they were gone….real surprise to me.
JulieP says
Here across the pond I’m still in shock too. Good luck for the next adventure. I’m not reading at the moment find that this time of year is too busy with spring, planting and general garden chores that I should have started a month earlier when we were still in warmer climes! When I sit down in the evening I nod off to sleep winter time and when we are away in the RV is when I get to have time to read so will give crying in H Mart a go then.

I have a friend who is having her third surgery to remove a melanoma that keeps returning on her lower shin. She will need 3-6 months bed rest. I’m trying to put together some things to keep her occupied while she’s in bed. I’m wondering if you think doing a paint by numbers could be done in bed. She will be unable to sit on the edge of the bed and put her leg down while on bed rest. It must stay out stretched to make sure the grafts take and for circulation in the artery that will be grafted. Or, do you have any other ideas for her? She’s a knitter and is well stocked with yarn

Hi Mavis. I’m not that surprised about the house sale. Although it sounded amazing, I did think it was an awful lot of work to keep up. We’ve cut down on doing what we have to do as we got older to doing what we actually want to do. Have you tried Shantaram? It’s a true story, I found it fascinating and very different. Take care.
