Lower Cholesterol / Reduce Stress
It was a winter wonderland around here… For about 36 hours. And then the heavy rain and wind came {twice!} and washed it all away.
By the way, does anyone else still have their wreaths still up? Here in New England people tend to leave them up until around Easter.
I haven’t figured out if it’s because it’s generally too cold to go outside and take them down, or people just like to see a bit of green to remind them winter isn’t going to last forever. 😉
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
We are patiently waiting for Ojai Pixies to ripen in California so we can order a case. These are possibly the BEST little tangerines on the planet earth. We discovered them last march and can’t wait to get our hands on them again.
Visit 24 {new} Bakeries / Coffee Shops
This past week I walked 6 miles {round trip} for a London Fog latte and the best molasses cookie ever made. I figure if you walk 6 miles for a cookie, the cookie and tea is calorie free.
Go On An Adventure
I don’t know where or when but I do know I’d like to go somewhere exciting this year. Somewhere I’ve never been before.
Contribute to 12 Free Little Libraries. {1 town down, 11 to go}
So far we’ve donated to 2 free little libraries {although since they were so close to each other, I am only counting it as 1}.
- Kennebunk and Kennebunkport
Tidy Up / Clean Out / Purge
I haven’t started to clean anything out yet, but when I do, I’ll start sharing some photos. My goal is to have this goal checked off my list by the end of March.
- Barn
- Garage
- Closets
- Dresser drawers
- Kitchen
- Sideboard
- DVD collection
Read or Listen to 24 Books {1 down, 23 to go}
I am currently listening to Elizabeth The Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch by Sally Bedell Smith. I didn’t realize the audiobook was 20 hours long when I started it and so I still have about 5 hours to go.
- Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service by Gary Sinise. 10/10
Spend More Time At The Beach
I am still on the hunt for the perfect piece of driftwood for my friend Kathy. When I went looking last week I came back with a few options but then realized she wanted a 6” x 3” wide {and twisted} piece. Not the 1” wide piece I had picked up.
So it’s back to the beach to look again today. 🙂 Fingers crossed I find some heart shaped rocks too {to sell on Etsy}.
Paint
I started a new paint by numbers kit.
In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 15th / March 30th
I was able to get a boatload of wool dyed and bundled last week. This week my plan is to dye my reds and pinks and work on drawing out {stocking up} on my whale patterns.
I have about 100 patterns in my Etsy shop right now so this goal is going to keep me busy!
Hook 6 “Big” Rugs.
I started my first big rug of the year and hope to have it finished by the end of January. In fact I hope to knock out 4 of the 6 big rugs I plan to hook this year by the end of April before the busy/garden season hits.
Visit 6 Greenhouses {that I’ve never been to before}.
No visits to any greenhouses this past week, but I already know which one I want to go to first.
Grow Baby Grow
It’s too early to start any plants yet, but I did order some new reading glasses online. Unfortunately they arrived all wonky so I had to send them back to be fixed. They’re really cool and thick and well made though so I hope they don’t take too long to get fixed.
Donate to 12 Different Organizations in Maine
I plan on donating to Camp Sunshine later this month. I’ve ordered some supplies from their wish list, and once they come in, I’ll drop off the donation.
* If you know of any great coffee shops in that neck of the woods, I’d love to hear about them.
Have you made your list yet? I’d love to hear what YOUR plans are for this year.

It was back to work for me last week so life is back to the normal busy.
#1 payoff car – I made a $400 principal payment this week
#2 we didn’t eat out this week and I cooked meals from scratch. We are doing a low spend January and eat from the pantry challenge. I am doing a Walmart pick up order this morning but it is for the bare minimum to get us through the week and under what I budgeted for the week
#3 travel more – I didn’t go anywhere but I helped my dd book an epic trip to Norway to see the northern lights #jealous!

Still working on my to do list, but I am doing the clean/organize/purge thing. Also growing a larger garden/more preserving. I am also wanting to get back into my genealogy work and more crocheting and sewing crafts.

Just curious…have you ever tried winter sowing? I’m giving it a whirl for the first time this winter. It was nice to get my hands into the dirt!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, I tired it last winter in 1 gallon jugs and the plants did well. 🙂
Teri says
The wool looks beautiful. Just curious — how do you dry it after you dye it? Especially in the winter.
Mavis Butterfield says
In the dryer. 🙂

My Christmas wreath is down and I stopped putting up the snowman for January because the winter winds are so bad that I always had to take it down. In February, I put up a white heart shaped pillow with red ribbon for Valentines. Then in the fall I put up a grapevine wreath. I no longer do spring and summer wreaths because the birds try to pluck everything off of them or make nests in them (overnight) making it unable to use the front door.
I look forward to seeing/learning about your donations this year to the little free libraries and places. The little libraries make me smile when I see them. I am very grateful for libraries and all the of the resources they offer for free- enriching our minds and lives for the better. We made regular trips to the library ever since the children were young, then attended story times, our children got their own library card when they started kindergarten, and did the summer reading clubs! Libraries are a wonderful resource full of helpful information and reading is so important! LOVE BOOKS! Thanks for making the world a better place with your donations.
Those molasses cookies look really good- might just have to make some soon- Yum!

My goals are going pretty well: eating better, getting things organized for baby appointments, and drinking more water.
Saving is still a little tricky as we just have tons of unforeseen expenses these days, but I think it will fall into place.

You are brave to be walking on the side of a busy road. Every time I walk on the road by my house, Speed limit 25, it makes me nervous. It seems like people just are too distracted and not paying attention. I’ve noticed that people do not even slide over into the other lane to give you space. It does not matter how brightly I dress either, people just don’t slow down or move over to give space. I live less than 1/4 mile of my child’s elementary school and they will not even allow kids to walk. He gets picked up by the bus and has a very short ride to school.

Yay for Pixies! One of Ojai’s best things, so delicious

The Good Life Market serves Swift River coffee! The shop is in Raymond. Not far from Camp Sunshine.

My wreath is still up. Winter in northern MA is so colorless that I like having a little something to look at when I come home. I’ll replace it with a valentines wreath later this month.
