Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
It was another great week for fruits and vegetables! I am beginning to wonder if I am going to miss out on the most important season of all… Fruit pie season.
Strawberry rhubarb pie is calling my name. But I have no rhubarb to pick, local berries OR the most important thing… A pie dish! Finding the pie dish will be priority #1 after we move in.

Go On An Adventure
No adventures for me this past week, but the HH did hop a flight to California to visit a friend. He was SHOCKED at the price of gas there… Over $6 a gallon. He said it was even higher close to the airport {$6.79}. That is bananas!!
Here in Maine gas is around $3.50 a gallon right now.

It was a good week for walking at the beach. Lucy found a few more crusty crabs to snack on and I found a few pieces of driftwood to keep.
Paint
I think I’m about 90% of the way finished with my latest paint by number kit. It’s a big one {24” x 36”} and so far it’s looking like the real deal. Once I get it finished, I plan on hopping on an airplane and visiting the site. 🙂 Yee-Haw!
So far I’ve finished:
- Portrait of Joseph Roulin
- Red Boats at Argenteuil
- Regattas at Argenteuil
- Vase with Cornflowers and Poppies
- Sunflowers
- Garden Path with Chickens
- Goldfish
Hook 6 “Big” Rugs.
I started a new rug… And I’m nearly finished. And although it’s not super huge, I think it will qualify as a “big”rug.
Large Rugs I’ve Hooked This Year
Visit 6 Greenhouses {that I’ve never been to before}.
No visits to any greenhouses this past week, but I already know which one I want to go to first.
Grow Baby Grow
The airbnb we are staying at has a peony plant in the backyard and it has me missing all 9 {NINE!!} of the beautiful peony plants I had at the last place. I hope the new owners are enjoying them.
I haven’t made any final decisions yet, but I think I will be planting a boatload of peonies at the new place. The garden will be a bit of a challenge, and I really have to get it right because there won’t be room for error. But peonies are #2 on my list of must have plants. We’ll see.
Donate to 12 Different Organizations in Maine
We finally made it up to Camp Sunshine to drop off our donation of 9,000 pipe cleaners and 3,000 googly eyes. The grounds are spectacular and I’m so glad this place exists.
I’ve decided where I’ll be donating to for June, and I’m looking forward to making my donation next week. In the mean time, I’ve continued picking up trash along the shoreline. It’s amazing what people drop/leave behind!
So Far This Year I’ve Donated To:
- Cleaning Up My Local Beach
- New Hope MidCoast {50 pairs of new socks}
- Humane Society {180 trays of cat food}
- Travis Mills Foundation
- Camp Sunshine
So how are YOUR goals for 2024 coming along? I’d love to hear about them.
~Mavis
Goals I’ve Already Completed This Year
In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 15th/ March 30th Now April 15th DONE!
I finally finished up all the major wool dyeing and pattern/kit making I had hoped too. All the “extra” wool is tucked away in bins so if I run out of wool in my Etsy shop I can whip up some more bundles in a jiffy. A summer off from dyeing wool… It’s going to be pretty rad.
Tidy Up / Clean Out / Purge DONE
We cleaned the whole house, inside and out. And then we sold it. Yee-Haw!

Wow $6.19 for gas is a lot! I’m in CA but here in south Orange County (about 50 miles south of LA) we’re paying $4.65 or a little less. Costco is $4.49. I use the Gas Buddy app to find the best price no matter where I am. It’s a huge help.
Mary Ann says
Here in north Orange County (closer to L.A.), I saw it at a Westminster station I drove past a couple days ago for $4.49 a gallon. Costco in Huntington Beach is $4.19 a gallon. We’ve seen it over $5 a gallon – close to $6 a gallon – at the height of all of this corporate greed stuff, but never over $6 around me.
Virginia says
Yep, Gas Buddy is a great app. You can consistently count on Costco having the best gas prices around.
Cindy R says
In Santa Fe, New Mexico it is $3.19 for unleaded and $3.79 for premium. I filled up at Sam’s Club this past week and it was $3.69 for the premium there.
Margo says
I’m in San Diego county and paid $4.49 the other day, but prices vary greatly here and the closer to the freeway the higher the price it seems. I have seen a few stations over $5 but that’s not the rule.
sandy says
Southern CA here-it is $4.29. I am assuming that $6+ was by an airport and possible SF?
It is not that expensive here in CA. Plus we get to drive along PCH Rt 101, so it is a bonus.
Lea says
My Auntie and Grandma lived just off of PCH and that drive was such a highlight of each visit! They’re both deceased now, so I haven’t been to visit in a long time.
Enjoy a drive for me!

I’m not 100% sure but I think you’re very close to me and my rhubarb plants decided to go crazy this year and I’ve gone from 4 to over 20. Please come pick some for pie when you need it
Kristen says
If peonies are #2 on your list of plants, I’m super curious what is #1?
Mavis Butterfield says
Bloomstruck hydrangeas. 🙂
Kristen says

My daughter loves paint by #. She has taken the next step up and sends a favored picture to a place that will produce the paint by number board. She did this of a picture of our 5 German Shepard’s and painted it and gave it to her dad for Christmas. At a short distance, it is perfect. Another one was a favorite place she visited on vacation. So far she has had 3 pictures copied to paint by #.

Welcome to Komifornia, I live in the Central Coast and our gas prices are betwee $5.50 (costco) to well over $6 at Shell and other stations. I am hoping to be able to afford to buy a Plug in Hybrid before the end of the year to alleviate the $250-$300 plus I spend on gas each month. Don’t get me started on the cost of property taxes and water. I would move to another more affordable state but my partner says he likes the weather here and says he is too old to move now. We just took a train trip to Colorado taking the southern route and saw all the cheaper gas along the way, it made me very envious. on an aside note travelling cross country by amtrak is so relaxing but you can’t be in a hurry, beats the stress of flying and driving and we both get to enjoy the scenery.

We just filled up at $2.82/gal here in Southwest Missouri.
