Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
Fruit this week has been in the form of dried fruit and there have been a few veggies, but not as much as previous weeks. We need to hit up Costco again for more salads!!

Go On An Adventure
I am honing in on my travel uniform for my trip to England. The goal is to have all my clothing/shoes/laptop fit into a single backpack.
I will then put my “personal item” {backpack} in my soft sided suitcase for the plane. The ultimate goal is to leave England with a suitcase crammed full of all my favorite British treats {including my ALL TIME favorite Polo biscuits and 1 personal item {backpack} with shoes and clothes in it.
For pretty much most of my adult life I’ve worn jeans and a long sleeve black T-shirt. Lately though I’ve been wearing navy blue chinos and really liking them. And as an added bonus, they match my shoes and look a little more grown up. They also take up less room in a backpack too! 😉

Spend More Time At The Beach
It was a great week for beachcombing! Lucy found some baby crabs to munch on and I found a buoy, chum bag and a mini garden rack. I hid the buoy behind the barn so the HH wouldn’t see. 🙂
He says I have too much beach “junk”. I told him I just need it to be winter so I can start my winter projects and put it all to good use.
Read or Listen to 24 Books {7 down, 17 to go}
I didn’t listen to any new audiobooks this past week but I did buy a used headboard for $15 for the guest room. When the guys went to load it in the car for me they broke it. I thought it was a good deal {before they broke it} and was going to paint it white.
Lame. Now I have to find another one.
Books I’ve Read or Listened To This Year:
- Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service by Gary Sinise. 10/10
- Elizabeth The Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch by Sally Bedell Smith 9/10
- Wait Till Next Year by Dorris Kearns Goodwin 8/10
- George VI and Elizabet:by Sally Bedell Smith 9/10
- Steve Jobs by Walter Issacson 9/10
- These Precious Days by Ann Pachett 9.5/10
- Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson
Paint
Frog tape. Have you used this stuff before? It’s 10x better than the blue painters tape. I love it.
My current painting project is painting the shiny walls in the guest room {which will double as an additional workspace for me} my favorite color: Chantilly lace {in an eggshell finish}.
I told myself I wasn’t going to paint my walls white. But old habits… Well you know.
So far I’ve finished:
- Portrait of Joseph Roulin
- Red Boats at Argenteuil
- Regattas at Argenteuil
- Vase with Cornflowers and Poppies
- Sunflowers
- Garden Path with Chickens
- Goldfish
Hook 6 “Big” Rugs.
I haven’t finished a single rug hooking project since we moved in, but HEY, I found a chair to sit in this winter and hook my rugs from. The only problem is Lucy seems to think I bought it for her.
Large Rugs I’ve Hooked This Year
- Three Roosters
- Hidden In The Garden
- Yankee Doodle
- Double Nantucket Whale Runner with the American flag
Visit 6 Greenhouses {1 down 5 to go}
I popped by the greenhouse yesterday and they were having a 50% off sale so I grabbed 3 hanging baskets. We had two epic rain storms last week and they decimated my other hanging baskets.
Hopefully these ones will last until it’s time to decorate with mums and pumpkins. Oh how I’m looking forward to that!!
Grow Baby Grow
I also picked up a few perennials. I’m anxious to get my garden going but I can’t really get started until the fence is installed. I have a weakness for plants though {plants and bakery treats} and just HAD to have them.
There are worse hobbies than gardening and rug hooking, but still, I should have waited. I ended up going home with 3 coneflowers, 6 yarrow and 6 French lavender plants.

Goals I’ve Already Completed This Year
In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 15th/ March 30th Now April 15th DONE!
I finally finished up all the major wool dyeing and pattern/kit making I had hoped too. All the “extra” wool is tucked away in bins so if I run out of wool in my Etsy shop I can whip up some more bundles in a jiffy. A summer off from dyeing wool… It’s going to be pretty rad.
Tidy Up / Clean Out / Purge DONE
We cleaned the whole house, inside and out. And then we sold it. Yee-Haw!

I am surprised that you tape when you paint, given all your experience! My dad taught me to paint without taping when I was a kid and it really isn’t that hard. Here’s my best tips: use a short handled brush (they are so much lighter, easier to control, and feel like an extension of your hand), dip your brush and then wipe off the paint on the side of the brush that will be against the trim. This action will also angle the bristles. Rest the brush at an angle with the paint side toward the wall so the ends of the bristles barely touch the trim and then paint away, slow and steady til you get the feel. Keep a wet paper towel nearby just in case. Voila! Saves tons of time and sooo much money on tape!
Diane says
I always forget, do you paint the wood trim first or the walls first? Thanks!

I second this! The outfit looks good. Curious on the shoes, I cant tell from the photo the brand but I like aqua type color. The outfit looks good. Maybe you’re starting to lean more into blue tones!
Mavis Butterfield says

Instead of donating to a Free Little Library this week, I found a Free Little Art Gallery to donate to!!! I read about this in my local newspaper and since we were in the neighborhood visiting the children’s museum we stopped on our way home! My grandson and I got out and we each picked something and we left three pieces! It was so adorable!!! It’s in an old newspaper vending machine in front of the person’s house! I have a feeling we will be frequent gallery goers!
P.S. – I just checked instagram and the owner of the “gallery” posted about our additions!
Beccah says
Mavis, I really like those chinos! Would you mind sharing where they’re from?

As we drove by a Free Little Library this week, I noticed someone has replaced the books (or maybe added to them)some bottled waters. Such a thoughtful touch for these high 90’s NC temps.

Hey Mavis I am right there with you on travel!
We are going to England for a month and I plan on packing only 1-2 changes of clothes and I plan on wearing and washing my flight clothes over and over again …the rest of my suitcase empty for British food! Maybe some clothes from Marks and Sparks. My hubs is British and we miss so much of the goodies from the grocery store. Also I want to leave some room for treasures found at car boot sales. Great minds!

The new outfit looks great on you. I like the chinos and striped T. Very nice.
