Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
We loaded up on fruits and veggies and a few other things this past week thanks to a trip to Market Basket and Trader Joe’s.
We tried Trader Joe’s Mediterranean crunch salad but it wasn’t as good as the one Costco sells. Lesson learned.
Visit 24 {new} Bakeries / Coffee Shops
Although we didn’t check out any new pastry shops, we did grab a Boston creme donut {my favorite} at The Cookie Jar and sit at Fort Williams park.

Go On An Adventure
We have about 99% of our trip to England planned out and will be heading out in a few days. I am SO EXCITED!!!
Contribute to 12 Free Little Libraries. {6 town down, 6 to go}
I am planning on packing some books to donate to a few free little libraries when we’re in England. I picked these up last week {for free} to look at and then I’ll be passing these along. I just love free little libraries, don’t you?
Towns I’ve donated books to:
- Gardiner, Maine
- Nobleboro, Maine
- Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, Maine
- Cape Elizabeth, Maine
- Raymond, Maine
- Bellevue, Washington
Spend More Time At The Beach
We rode our bikes down to the beach and soaked up the sunshine yesterday. I’m not really a beach person {in the sense of laying out and just having down time in general} but it is nice to slow down every once in a while and relax.
And then go for ice cream afterwards.
Read or Listen to 24 Books {7 down, 17 to go}
No time for books this week but I should probably download something for the flight.
Books I’ve Read or Listened To This Year:
- Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service by Gary Sinise. 10/10
- Elizabeth The Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch by Sally Bedell Smith 9/10
- Wait Till Next Year by Dorris Kearns Goodwin 8/10
- George VI and Elizabet:by Sally Bedell Smith 9/10
- Steve Jobs by Walter Issacson 9/10
- These Precious Days by Ann Pachett 9.5/10
- Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson
Paint
I didn’t paint anything this past week but I did pick up a free paint by number owl alongside the road.
And a decorative plant too! I LOVE that people put perfectly good stuff out at the end of their driveway in hopes that someone will come by and take it. You just never know what you are going to find.
So far I’ve finished:
- Portrait of Joseph Roulin
- Red Boats at Argenteuil
- Regattas at Argenteuil
- Vase with Cornflowers and Poppies
- Sunflowers
- Garden Path with Chickens
- Goldfish
Hook 6 “Big” Rugs.
No new rugs this past week but I did hook this three roosters rug earlier this year. Late fall. That’s when I think I’ll be back hooking again. There is SO MUCH to still do before the weather turns.
Large Rugs I’ve Hooked This Year
- Three Roosters
- Hidden In The Garden
- Yankee Doodle
- Double Nantucket Whale Runner with the American flag
Visit 6 Greenhouses {1 down 5 to go}
No greenhouses this week, but I did pop by Snug Harbor Farm to see if they had any plants that I wanted on sale. There is always so much to see there. Even if I don’t come home with anything.
Grow Baby Grow
I just read that one of my favorite nurseries {Estabrook’s} is having a big end of the season sale. I’m hoping to get a deal on some of those Limelight hydrangeas that I love.
Ideally I’d like to get a few for behind the picket fence that will be installed out front {they grow tall and I want them behind the fence so that when they grow tall they’ll have some support until the roots are established.
I’m also looking for a larger one to use as sort of an anchor on the corner too. Hopefully I’ll be able to find what I’m looking for… Otherwise I’ll have to wait until next year to get them planted.
Donate to 12 Different Organizations in Maine
So Far This Year I’ve Donated To:
- Cleaning Up My Local Beach
- New Hope MidCoast {50 pairs of new socks}
- Humane Society {180 trays of cat food}
- Travis Mills Foundation
- Camp Sunshine
- Honor Flight Maine
So how are YOUR goals for 2024 coming along? I’d love to hear about them.
~Mavis
Goals I’ve Already Completed This Year
In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 15th/ March 30th Now April 15th DONE!
I finally finished up all the major wool dyeing and pattern/kit making I had hoped too. All the “extra” wool is tucked away in bins so if I run out of wool in my Etsy shop I can whip up some more bundles in a jiffy. A summer off from dyeing wool… It’s going to be pretty rad.
Tidy Up / Clean Out / Purge DONE
We cleaned the whole house, inside and out. And then we sold it. Yee-Haw!

Fort William is one of my favorite places. We are heading to Maine in a week and Fort William will be one of our first stops. I always get a lobster roll at the Bite of Maine food truck there. Best lobster roll I’ve had in all the years we’ve been going to Maine.

Hi Mavis! Next time your near the Cookie Jar, be sure to check out Scratch Baking Co. just down the road! There was a line out the door and down the sidewalk last weekend when we went from the Cookie Jar over to SMCC to walk the ocean front path.
