Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
I think I did pretty good at eating more fruits and vegetables this week. From evening cravings of steamed broccoli to bowls of delicious potato soup to pineapple on pizza.
The bananas, cucumbers and tomatoes may be gone, and the fresh produce is dwindling, but there is plenty more fruits and vegetables to last until the end of the year.
Visit 24 {new} Bakeries / Coffee Shops
We met up with my in-laws for pizza this past week {usually we go out to breakfast} but I do have a new coffee/bakery place I want to try next. I’m not sure how I came across it but holy cow the pastries have good reviews. I’m excited!

Spend More Time At The Beach
I walked the big beach this past week and was able to load up on some clamshells for my next project. There was hardly anyone there… It was lovely.
It’s so SO nice to go to the beach this time of year. I practically have the place to myself. It’s wonderful.
Read or Listen to 24 Books {11 down, 13to go}
I had no idea that when I started Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child by Bob Spitz the audio version was 25+ hours long!!! That will teach me. It’s easy to listen too, but I still have 7 hours left to go! Crazy.

- Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service by Gary Sinise. 10/10
- My Girls by Todd Fissher 10/10

Paint
Next up for painting projects… Christmas decorations. I told the HH I needed some “red” outdoor paint and he came back with a color called 100MPH. I thought that was funny.
The giant bats will come down November 1st. But I think I’ll try and wait until Thanksgiving is over to put up the Christmas decorations. We’ll see how that goes.
Paintings I’ve finished this year:
- Portrait of Joseph Roulin
- Red Boats at Argenteuil
- Regattas at Argenteuil
- Vase with Cornflowers and Poppies
- Sunflowers
- Garden Path with Chickens
- Goldfish
Hook 6 “Big” Rugs.
Last week I finally finished the turkey table runner rug I had been working on. Now I’m trying to finish up 2 Christmas/Winter themed pieces {kits/patterns} and have them listed by next weekend.
After that, I’ll get started on a larger rug. The goal is to finish one in November and 1 in December so I can check the “hook 6 large rugs” goal off my list before the New Year.
- Three Roosters
- Hidden In The Garden
- Yankee Doodle
- Double Nantucket Whale Runner with the American flag
Visit 6 Greenhouses {4 down 2 to go}
No greenhouses this past week but hey, the HH’s new recliner arrived yesterday. He loves it. And I love that it doesn’t look like a recliner.
We are still waiting for a few more things to finish off the space {coffee table, end tables, canning cupboard, window coverings} but we’re getting there.
I’m hoping by Thanksgiving it will be here and installed.
Grow Baby Grow
I potted up the amaryllis bulbs a few days ago. With a little luck they should be in bloom by mid December. I love the pots I found and I think they’ll look nice lined up down the center of the kitchen table.

Goals I’ve Already Completed This Year
Go On An Adventure DONE
I’d say that spending over a week in England totally counts as an adventure. Next time though I think the HH should come with me. I can eat all the pastries, and he can eat all the other amazing foods.
In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 15th/ March 30th Now April 15th DONE!
I finally finished up all the major wool dyeing and pattern/kit making I had hoped too. All the “extra” wool is tucked away in bins so if I run out of wool in my Etsy shop I can whip up some more bundles in a jiffy. A summer off from dyeing wool… It’s going to be pretty rad.
Tidy Up / Clean Out / Purge DONE
We cleaned the whole house, inside and out. And then we sold it. Yee-Haw!

There were a lot of large clamshells at Crescent Beach during low tide yesterday, if you need more & want a change of scenery. I forced myself to leave them there because my HH is tired of dusting the ones I’ve already brought home. I was hunting for seaglass anyway, so I didn’t need to add to my load. Now I’m curious what your project is because maybe I can make better use of my clamshells than simply lining them up on the window sills. Ha!
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks for the beach idea, we’ve never been there and will have to check it out. Any excuse to go to the donut shop is a good one!!
Sue says
You can change the reading speed on audio books to decrease the listening time. It works great!
Sheila says
Mavis, do you have a link to the new recliner? We are in the market for one
Mavis Butterfield says
It is a 1920’s Parisian club chair from Restoration Hardware.
Annette says
Is there something sprinkled on your broccoli? Parmesan?
Mavis Butterfield says
Ice crystals. 🙂 I snapped the picture before I steamed it.
Lmw says
I would love more info in comfortable sturdy recliners that don’t look like recliners!!! Would you be interested in sharing the make and model?
Thank you!
Mavis Butterfield says
Restoration Hardware – 1920’s Parisian club chair. It’s not too big, made with quality leather, super comfy and it doesn’t look like a recliner. We decided to invest in a chair with a classic style that would go with whatever we might have in the future.
Kim says
Have you received your sofa yet?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! And I love it!! It turned out so much nicer than I thought it would. I’ll have to take a picture and share.
Julie says
Mavis, know if you’ve already been there, but our children and I went on a color tour and spent some time in Boston last week and we found Mike’s pastries in the north end of Boston and Oh! My! Word! They are AMAZING!!
I thought I should share that with you in case you need another bakery to try!!
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ve been there a bunch of times and the fig cookies at Mike’s Pastry are my all time favorite!! Glad you had fun. https://www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/mikes-pastry-in-boston-massachusetts/
maureen detmer says
curious, where did you find the pots for amaryllis bulbs?
Mavis Butterfield says
At a small ittle gift shop in town. They didn’t have a label on them and I snatched up the five that they had. 🙁
Christy Rose says
Reading about Dearie intrigued me as I always liked Julia Child and her quirky ways. I saw that our library system had a copy so reserved it. It is 534 pages and not large print either so that explains why it is a 25 hour audio book!
Lori says
I’m not sure how much you’ve worked with red paint, it a tip. Red paint has a clear base, so if you want to save yourself some frustration and a few 100 coats, I suggest a dark primer and then paint the red. I have had tj do quite a bit of red for various reason and the dark primer is a must.
Tracey says
That massive paella pic has me baffled – was that in London?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! We went to a market and I took a bunch of photos {very intersting place!!}. I plan on sharing more about London this winter. It’s been a crazy busy summer and I feel ike things are finally starting to slow down and I’ll be able to share more.
Stacey says
Hi Mavis, the 100MPH paint made me chuckle. My husband just picked out some red paint for his man cave shelves, and it’s called Flirt Alert. Paint names can be so much fun!
