Lower Cholesterol / Reduce Stress
Walking, watching sunrises and making a plan and sticking to it. That’s pretty much been my recipe for reducing stress so far in 2024.
The sunrises here at our place in Maine are pretty spectacular. Especially this time of year.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
I need to have the HH pop by the store and stock up on some more fresh fruit and vegetables. Roasted Brussel sprouts seem like a good idea, don’t you think?
Visit 24 {new} Bakeries / Coffee Shops
I have a new coffee shop/bakery to tell you about! Hopefully this week. I would love to find a bakery in Maine that offers French pastries though. Anyone know of a place?
New Bakeries / Coffee Shops I’ve Been To This Year:
Go On An Adventure
No plans yet for an adventure. It seems like everywhere I want to go involves a plane ride to somewhere in Great Britain. 🙂 I have a lot I’m trying to get done right now though so I think it’s best to hold off on any adventure for a few months.
For some strange reason, most of my adventures are more of the spur of the moment type. So who knows, I may wake up one morning, find a deal and be on a plane that afternoon. You just never know. And I think I like it that way.
Contribute to 12 Free Little Libraries. {2 town down, 10 to go}
This past week I donated some knitting books to a free little library in Nobleboro, Maine. That means I have 10 more to go before I can check this goal off my list.
Towns I’ve donated books to:
- Kennebunk and Kennebunkport
- Nobleboro, Maine
Tidy Up / Clean Out / Purge
No purging this past week but Lucy tried on some leg warmers!

- Garage

- Dresser drawers
- Kitchen
- Sideboard
- DVD collection
Read or Listen to 24 Books {4 down, 20 to go}
I finally finished George VI and Elizabeth: The Marriage That Saved the Monarchy by Sally Bedell Smith. The audiobook was 23 hours long!
Books I’ve Read or Listened To This Year:
- Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service by Gary Sinise. 10/10
- Elizabeth The Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch by Sally Bedell Smith 9/10
- Wait Till Next Year by Dorris Kearns Goodwin 8/10
- George VI and Elizabet:by Sally Bedell Smith 9/10
Spend More Time At The Beach
Lucy LOVES the beach! There is always something new to see. The last few storms have really brought in some unusual objects {and oddly enough, a lot more sea glass than we’re used to seeing}.
I hope they grade the beach though before tourist season, there’s a lot of metal bits out there.
Paint
My current paint by number kit, Vase with Cornflowers and Poppies By Vincent Van Gogh is coming along. I’ll be working on the center portion next. Yikes! Maybe I should have started with the tiny sections first.
So far I’ve finished:
In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 15th / March 30th
Things are going well. I listed a bunch of new wool in my Etsy shop on Thursday and have plans to list another big batch in a few weeks. This goal of having all my wool dyed and patterns drawn before gardening season hits is keeping me busy busy!
Hook 6 “Big” Rugs.
I finished my first large rug of the year; Hidden In The Garden and now I’m on to my next one. I am hoping to have this one finished by the end of the month. We’ll see though. It’s a big one!
Large Rugs I’ve Hooked This Year
Visit 6 Greenhouses {that I’ve never been to before}.
No visits to any greenhouses this past week, but I already know which one I want to go to first.
Grow Baby Grow
The only gardening I’m doing right now is indoor gardening. 🙂 I still have about 2 months before the ground thaws around here… And then it will be time to play outside. I love living in a place with 4-5 true seasons. {The 5th being mud season}.
In case you haven’t bought your seeds yet, Cindy shared this deal with me : Open Seed Vault 15,000 Non GMO Heirloom Vegetable Seeds for $24.99.
Donate to 12 Different Organizations in Maine
I popped by my favorite clothing store FatFace to check out their 50% off sale and ended up leaving with a new coat {that was originally $144, for $38} and 50 pairs of socks.
The socks were marked down from $12 a pair to $1 so I grabbed 50 and will be donating all of them to a nearby women’s domestic violence program. New socks. Who wouldn’t love that?
Also, the supplies I ordered from the Camp Sunshine wish list came in {I bought 9,000 pipe cleaners and 2,000 googly eyes} and now I just need to drop them off.
So how are YOUR goals for 2024 coming along? I’d love to hear about them.
~Mavis

Mavis, thanks for purchasing books and placing them in the little free library at Nobleboro. Just down the street from us. Purchasing 50 cute pairs of socks and donating them…they will be treasured.

What a fantastic sale on the socks (and coat)!!
Holley says
Those socks are adorable! What is that that Lucy is standing by on the beach?
Mavis Butterfield says
I have no idea. It was something that washed ashore.
Vivian says
Me too! I LOVE the blue ones she is holding!
Katelyn says
I love FatFace, too (despite the store’s horrible name!). Their socks hold up really well for cotton, too.

The name -albiet sounds a bit odd-is actually named after the owners favorite ski run in France.
Annette says
I was hoping the socks might by part of your next giveaway 😉

Standard Baking Co. in Portland has some excellent French pastries (as well as cookies and scones). Their outdoor seating in front is lovely in warmer weather. Have you tried it.

Ummm… I just took a look and I am going to have to go there!!! Thank you Susan.
Rosemary says
I have completed 4 items on my “Need to do list” and I am almost done with the 5th & 6th items.
Those socks were a great price and I know they will be appreciated!

Well done Rosemary… You are cookin’ along!

Holy cats that’s a great deal!!!

I liked your idea of the paint by number kits so I ordered 2. One Van Gogh Sunflowers and. Monet one. But I’m afraid to start! Watched several videos on the subject but still fear it! Yours are lovely and I’m so impressed!

I did not know you had fat face stores in US it’s a good company with good ethics. The clothes can be a bit pricey when not in the sales though. Now owned by the Next Group. I love their jazzy shorter skirts! Pyjamas and cropped jeans. My husband bought a top/jumper/sweatshirt type of thing on the Isle of Wight in 1993 still going strong our daughter wears it now
Rhonda R. Relyea says
I love Lucy’s lil leg warmers. So darned cute! I always want to leave comments everytime I see Lucy, but I’m sure you’d get sick of those taking up space! I don’t comment often, but still enjoy your daily email and love your new home and gardens.
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks Rhonda! 🙂
Peggy says
Way to go Mavis! You’re doing some good.
