My 22 Goals for 2019
Goal #1 — Spend More Time Doing What I Love
Played in the dirt for so long yesterday, that my body aches and now I am forced to loaf around inside all day today to recuperate. ✔
Goal #2 — Garden, Garden, Garden
Gardening this week consisted of raking leaves, tending the boxwoods and moving about 5 yards of dirt from one side of the yard to the other.
When we bought the house with it came a compost pile with about 20 yards {I kid you not!} of material. The plan is to get all that material moved to the back of the lot {the back 16 to be exact} in a straight line in sort of a lasagna garden style bed. So far so good. We are a quarter of the way done and with a bit of luck, we’ll get be able to get all the dirt moved before the ground freezes.
The area is pretty shaded, so I’m not sure what I’ll plant back there yet, but I know spring is going to be gloriously busy in the backyard so anything I can get done this fall will be a huge time saver.
Goal #3 — Plant an Orchard {Calling it Quits on this one.}
Miss Lemon! She’s hanging in there. Poor baby, she’s lost a lot of her leaves since we’ve moved her inside for the winter but she seems to like her sunny corner so I think we’ll be okay.
Goal #4 — Gussy Up the Potting Shed Done!
There really isn’t a good area for a potting shed here, but I would love to have another potting bench or party lights or something set up in the back to hold my collection of watering cans. We’ll see.
Goal #5 — Grow Enough Extra Vegetables, Eggs and Flowers to Earn $1500 at my little roadside vegetable stand.
It was totally my intention to grow a ton of fruits and vegetables to sell at the farm-stand when I made my list of goals for 2019 last winter, but then we moved. So, that whole goal was sort of a bust.
Goal #6 — Finish Every Single Unfinished Rug Hooking Project in My Pattern Bin + 10 Things from back Issues of Magazines/Books I’ve Been Meaning to Make.
This week I added 2 new mini whale rugs to my Etsy shop and a few more ornaments. I’ll be working Tuesday – Friday this week on a few more items, then I’ll need to devote about 2 weeks to dying wool so I can do a major re-stock of my hand dyed wool offerings. I’m hoping that once the first snowflake falls to the ground, all the dyeing and garden chores will be done and I can hook, hook, hook.
- 73 rugs in my pattern bin {now down to 27}
- 183 hooked flowers {finished 141, now down to 42}
- 10 “things” from back issues of magazines {finished 0}

First we build the fence. Then we finish the marathon goal. 😉 Over the past 2 days {and a learning curve or two} we have installed about 100 feet of fencing. Not to shabby for two old people if you ask me. Today though, today we rest because we can barely move.

Mylanta! You people put in 100 ft. of fence already???? I don’t think you can call yourself “old.” For sure, I give my permission to take the day off. Teehee
Sooooooooooo enjoying the process of watching you put your new home together.

I haven’t made any progress on my Christmas tree skirt goal this week, but I did finish more reusable birthday gift wrap. The bags aren’t as much of a priority as the skirts, but I had them cut and pinned, so I had to finish them to a point where I could free up enough pins to work on the skirts. I probably won’t have time to do much this week due to Halloween, but I might try to knock out the simpler of the two tree skirts this week since the batting I ordered arrived, and that’s really only a 2-seam project.
It wasn’t an official goal, but I also learned to press apple cider last night, so that’s super exciting. I just need to pasteurize it today.
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ve always wanted to press apple cider!!
Mel says
It was so easy and fun! I’d talked myself out of buying a press for years, but it was so worth it! I think it will be an annual tradition for us. I can send you pictures if you want to see.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! I think peeps would love a tutorial!!
Marcia says
That spiced Christmas jam looks fantastic. I still haven’t managed to make the carrot cake jam!
Joanne says
Have made both. They are now requested gifts
Brianna says
I love Mrs. HB’s front porch decorations. It looks like it should be in a magazine and she definitely has an eye for style and decor. Very lovely and welcoming.

My Goals:
1. sew and 2. use up my stash: I have been sewing, making table runners and pot holders from fabric from the stash. Also taught the neighbor how to make the potholders, which is now her Christmas gift project! (This is where retirement is making a difference! More time to sew and read!)
3. Finish the half done projects: This goal is met.
4.Walk every day. Trying to do this; however, I’ll be having knee surgery in January.
5.I new recipe every week: Admitting defeat on this one.
6. Clean more often. I’m keeping up with this one, I do it in 10 minute spurts, but often.
7. I’m also keeping up with date times with my husband.
8. Read more: I went to a Friends of the Library sale, bought a ton of stuff and I’ve already got half of it out. Hurrah!
